Well, if you were in my uni (more specifically in the unit I'm doing now), people would be giving other people's first-borns for you to be in their group.

Programmers are always welcome...as long as they don't do anything except program.

That said, I think it's a case of 'once you've been sucked into programming for a game, you're suddenly a lot more useful to employers'.

I'm doing a Master of Engineering degree for Computer Games Design and Development in university right now, so hopefully I'll be a future games designer.

If that falls through I could still be a software developer, since the MEng CGDD is essentially an MEng Computer Science course with extra modules relating to computer games development, design and the like.

Well, some maths are pretty essential, to be honest; physics calculations take up a big chunk of that, as well as a load of other things depending on the game, especially if it's a 3D game.

Of course, it depends a lot on WHAT you're doing exactly, but if you're expecting to not need maths at all then you need to re-adjust your expectations.

I'm designing a game together with a friend at this very moment. We have to do a project for information science class at school, and my friend and I chose to make a game in Gamemaker. It's not completely the same, but it teaches you a few things about game design (for example the animation of 2D sprites is hell a lot of work).

I've just started my IT education this year. My dad has contacts with the higher ups in EA and Namco Bandai so in the future I may be working with them.

I'd love to I applied and got on a course at uni but got turned off because I can't draw and I'm originally a film maker, so I'd prefer to be in a Kojima position rather than an drawing one..

I hope to be a 3D-designer someday, currently studying programming, but found 3D a lot more interesting as I dabble with it in my spare time.

Majoring in (among other things) Comparative Media Studies, under the purview of which fall the fields of Game Development and Game Design. My other major is Materials Science and Engineering. I realize it doesn't make a considerable amount of sense, but being at a predominantly math/sci/tech school, it seemed a waste not to do something engineering-related. Plus, there are more problems in the world that need solving besides how to come up with a balanced combat system, so engineering it is.

One of many highlights of my game development studies - I got to take a game development course under Chris Weaver, founder of Bethesda Softworks. ^_^

Yeah taking Computer Programing next year and then after the year after that I plan to go onto RIT.

i'm currently in my 2nd year of game design/development and i'm currently doing an internship where i get paid to design and develop my own game :)

I'm extremely torn in what I'd like to do.
- I enjoy writing and I'm very good at it.
- I enjoy creating new worlds and exploring existing ones
- I like working with animation and modelling in CGI

It's a very tricky thing for me to figure out right now because I honestly love ALL of it but I have to pick one to specialize in. I'd love to eventually have my own studio where I make my own games (and convince Bioware to let me re-make Mass Effect about 10-15 years down the road) but I'm having a hard time figuring out how best to achieve these goals.

I don't plan to get into the game industry because I hate the way it's run. I like my 40 hour work week too much!

Now, serious/educational games, THAT is interesting. I had one interview but they didn't end up hiring anyone :(

Not enough that it'd cause you a problem. I hate maths too, but you can pretty much get by with basic stuff. The most complex thing I've come up against so far is calculating evenly spaced points around a circle, wasn't too hard. Obviously I can only speak for myself, but the tutor we have for our programming modules is pretty good and helped us out quite a bit. We really just learned programming to get across our ideas and whatnot, so it wasn't too important.

How much math you use is also highly dependent on what you do in the development process. If you're in design, the extent of your math might be just down to making sure mechanics are balanced and the like. Programming strikes me as the department most inclined towards mathematics.
