I could never take Silver seriously after I named him "Muffin".

(He's the rival from GSC, if anyone's wondering.)

Name a Pokemon Aids and give it to the day care people and read "You gave the Day care man Aids" Its always a laugh, or naming your Pokemon random diseases.

I always use the name Raven for my male protagonists, and usually something like Rochelle, Alarielle or something like that for my girls. Except ones where the names are already given, such as in Chrono Trigger, where I'll leave them as is.

My Pokemon nicknames are usually related to my RPing characters, or ones I've used since Emerald. For example, my starter is named Raven, my bird is Gabriel, Gyarados becomes Poseidon, my first Psychic is Spoon, second is Farseer, and my ghost is Spook.

It's not particularly mature, but naming your character IAmGay in Pokemon Ruby results in an NPC running towards you shouting, "IAmGay! IAmGay!".

Yeah. Those games fail in the being serious part. I always make them to have stupid names if I can... Not so mature but its funny. And that generic name above is what I use in Final Fantasy. Its a bit confusing when every person in the game if called "a brickwall" or something similar.

I feel so old right now. I always use one of a few names (Jandau included) for my characters and I never make silly joke names. It might seem like a good idea and is alright for a few laughs, but I end up feeling stupid for most of the game. However, I do enjoy reading about people who degrade their characters in such a way...

Naming myself 'your mum' or 'Yo momma' in an FPS type game is old hat but tickles me still.

'xXx13375n1p3rxXx killed your mum with Bigassgun(TM)'

Is doomed, as immature as it may seem, the novelty of naming myself 'cuntychops' or something along those lines, will never cease.
For instance, Fallout 3, If you name the protagonist 'All Midgets'
And you come across a talon company merc, they drop a dossier entitled 'Kill All Midgets'
Or games such as Pokemon
Where I can cast out various S.T.I named Pokemon, 'Syphilis Used Bind!' Or 'Aids Used Curse' just fulfil my simple pleasures ^.^
Does anyone else do this or is it just me </3?
Sadly, I laughed.

I want to, but never give it much thought. Usually I give my plyaer characters names of other fictional characters and imagine my player character is has the personality of that character.

Usually amounts to quoting Darth Vader or Solid Snake a lot during Fallout 3.

i feel bad, because i'll be hanging out with my seven year old cousin, who will fart next to my face and laugh, causing me to yell at her and tell her be more mature. Half an hour later, i'll be in a corner, laughing because My Ass used Bulk Up.

I'm never overt, more like tongue in cheek. I try to find amusing names for Pokemon, but I doubt they would make anybody particularly laugh. Probably the funniest name I came up with was "Godberry" for my Rotom, because of the Powerthirst commercials, and because if there ever were a godberry, I'm sure it would be Rotom. LOL

RPG characters are named seriously, though. My enjoyment of WRPGs depend a bit on a certain minimum level of immersion.

Champions Online lets you create your own hero and then (once you hit level 25 I think), it lets you create your first nemesis.

I say first because apparently, when you fight your nemesis, you have the option of either sparing them or killing them.
If you kill them, I guess you're supposed to make another nemesis.

This thread reminds me of The Spoony One, who called Rinoa from Final Fantasy "a whore" and her dog "anal".

"As a whore walks around, she learns more tricks." The limit break attacks of the dog, originally called Angelo, turned into things like "Anal Cannon".

You should check his Final Fantasy 8 playthrough if you want to see that whole thing. It's hilarious.

In Geoff Crammond's Grand Prix 2 (ask your parents, kiddies), I used to rename various formula one drivers with such witicisms as "Some Idiot" and "Another Idiot". Hence on screen messages to the effect of "Some Idiot has won the race!" "Another Idiot has finished in second place!" Simple, joyful times.

I named my Dragon Age character "Shontlecakes" for some reason.

For the Mass Effects, I was "DJ Shepherd" and "Dr. Shepherd".

And in Mother 3, when you have the option to choose your favourite thing, the default is "love", and that becomes the name of a powerful PSI move you use.

Well, your character's father is possibly the most badass character in the gamingverse, and his name is Flint, so my character went around hitting people with "PK Flint!"

Flint gets hit with two strong blasts of PK Flint! After all, the only thing that can bring Flint down is another Flint. Ack, just get the damned game and see for yourself.
