Source engine! It's free if you own one Source engine game.

It's not really "easy", but it's still one of the most accessible gaming engines around. In fact, I'm working with it right now.

Can you send me the link to where I can download this? I don't really know how to do it on Valve's website :3

I've you've got at least one Source game installed it should be in your Steam list, under Tools.

Do you have a Source game? Because if you don't this will be a very short exercise.

Go to Steampowered.com (STEAM's website) hit Download, buy a game made by Valve that ends in source (Counter Strike: Source, Day of Defeat: Source) or a Half-Life 2 game, then go to tool in STEAM and you should find the stuff there.

Umm...the Cube 2 engine is easy, and free, if you want to make simple FPS's. Yeah, that's about it...

Take a look at Unity3D. It's a free game engine with which you can make games for Mac, Windows and browser based. It's quite easy to start with because code is kept to a minimum. I use it in combination with Blender for 3D modelling and Gimp for any graphics (both are opensource).

It's so revolutionary, it doesn't even exist! It's called the "iHaveAGamingDeficiencyBecauseSoftwareDevelopersKnowThatTheyWon'tGetAReturnOfInvestment."

Heh, silly jokes are silly.

Source Engine works on the Mac, although how easy/simple it is I have no idea.

Also, the graphics Engine that Halo:CE runs on is Mac compatable and various version of the Unreal Engine (V1,2and 3) are Mac cert as well.

For modding I would start at an early version of the Unreal Engine. It's pretty basic by current standings, but it's based on C++ (so any skills you learn can transfer to other stuff) and has lots of plug-ins available to make creating things easier. V1 is now very easy on hardware as well.

Does Team Fortress 2 count? And is it the tools in the browser or the actual application?

TF2 should count and I'm not sure how Mac users would find it because I'm not certain if they steam interfaces are the same.
