I've been playing single-player games for most of my life, with the exception of a CS phase I went through at University on the LAN. The reason for this being that every time I've ever tried to play a multiplayer game on PSN or PC it's usually populated by 10 year olds with high-pitched squeally voices or players who spend waaaaay too much time on there and bark orders at you and shout when you have the sheer nerve to not be as good as they are.

Can anyone reccomend any good drop-in games out there, prefereably one where a microphone isn't required. I had a brief spell with borderlands but found that only 1 in 10 games were any good.

Lead and Gold: Gangs of the Wild West is really awesome :D (if you are willing to spent $15(on Steam))

Play any games that you'd find fun. I deal with the multiplayer squeaks by auto-muting all the mikes. Works wonders. I mean really just pick any game you enjoyed offline (and has online multiplayer) and play.

I was going to recomend borderlands for you but... with that taken i'd say... what are you looking for?

Heroes of Newerth has just opened their open beta, it's just like DotA.

Warrock a free online fps what is very much like battlefield and CS

World of Warcraft, self explanatory, if you don't like mmo's don't try it

Killzone 2 is a blast but it's controls are hated by allot of people

COD5 Nazi Zombies mode is hell of allot fun

L4D2 has some great gameplay, if you get into the right lobys without 12 year olds

BFBC:2 Is more or less free from 12 year olds, from my own experience

COD:4 is actualy a great game if you play on the right servers, did i mention that they are dedicated

And then there is always the mute-everything-that-lives option that works every time. BUt again, that's what i like.

The most fun I've ever had with drop in games is Team Fortress 2. BF BC 2 isn't too bad either.

I always find a few games on TF2 is always fun, and usually lag free. The PC community with mikes is populated with majoritaly casual players in their late teens (thank god for that), and the Mic owners on the ps3 are non-existant, so either work in that respect

TF2 is ftw. Even if you do end up playing with 12 year old teenagers, they usually are decent people. And hell, you can mute them very easily, if needed.

Thanks for the quick responses, I played L4D once at a friends and had some good fun on it. Although my laptop is a bit too weak for most FPS's so I'll probably give slipknot4's PS3 games a go. Not had a chance to look at bad company 2 yet.

You shouldn't give up on running Source engine based games. At least, not TF2, which you can even set to use DirectX 8. I've seen people with integrated graphics card being able to run TF2 at a decent framerate.

You could give Dystopia [http://www.dystopia-game.com] a swing, it's a free Cyberpunk mod for HL2. It's an objective based shooter, with some uniqe Cyberpunk elements. It's not at all populated by squeaky 10-year olds, rather the opposite. Depending on what servers you play on, you may encounter elitist tournament players that will eat you alive when you screw up. It can be rather rough, but usually, they're not that many.

i would definitly have to say tf2. the community, on pc atleast, is generally mature and pretty friendly. a welcome change from mw2 on the 360 which is full of over aggressive 12 year olds, dont know if ill ever go back to that now.
