Hi, this is my first thread!

I am new around these parts and like with every forum I go on (a very small number), I ask this.

Who out there plays a musical instrument? I just like seeing who else started their journey with music and is possibly continuing with it :).

I'll tell you a little bit about myself. My name is IvoryTriforce, I picked this name because I currently play piano and I usually play video game music. However, most of the time it's just Zelda music. I've been playing guitar for about 7 years and I did play classical guitar and learn musical theory in school. I decided to move to piano about a week ago and I'm enjoying it greatly, I'm getting the hang of it a lot quicker than I thought.

Hello IvoryTriforce! Welcome to the Escapist~

Awesome to see a fellow musician here, I myself play the clarinet and sing. I'm not very good, average even for High School standards, but I'm always improving so that counts :3. I tend to play classical music, particularly Romantic due to my tutor's bias but I don't mind ^^, and sing your standard choral songs. Glad to see you're enjoying the piano, I like most Asians used to play it but I have since moved on. It's a great instrument!

Thank you for the welcome :).

I played clarinet in middle school, I thought it was a very fun instrument. I marched in a parade while playing it and that was definitely fun. Standard choral songs eh? If I had a good choral voice the first thing I would do is start loudly singing "Dual of the Fates" from Star Wars. One thing I notice with piano is that it's a lot less expensive than guitar X), a good guitar is usually $800+. I can drop $800 and get an amazing digital stage piano, any higher and I can easily move into the home acoustic piano territory.

I am also a piano player Kappa. Well I rented a piano for a month I had to return it a few weeks ago. It was sad I was really enjoying the time I spent on it. The night after returning it I had an unusually vivid dream where I was playing unbelievably well and easily recognized all the keys, only in dreams I guess.

I'll hopefully be getting a piano next tax refund.

Hello and welcome :)

I played piano when I was 10-12. I played guitar, made my own songs and sang for quite some while though I kind off dropped off in the last two years.

I play tuba, currently first chair in every school and honor's band I've done.

Of course, getting first chair tuba isn't hard when maybe one other person plays your instrument in that band.

I don't know much about music besides my band experiences. My high school didn't offer music theory, and I don't think I'd want to take it now during college. I listen to a lot of romantic, baroque, and classical music, like Mahler, Sousa, Shostakovitch, Mozart, Williams, and Corelli, so good enough for me.

And I'm going to finish this post by saying that in the low brass, marches are the funnest pieces you can play.

Welcome to the Escapist! :D Stay out of the basement.

I'm very jealous of you talented people, I do wish I could play the piano as I do listen to piano music quite often but I have the talent capabilities of a wobbly trolley wheel.

Hey there, welcome to The Escapist! :D

I play a couple of instruments - I've been playing guitar now for 7 years or so and bass for 3 years, both of which I consider my main instruments, but I also play a bunch of folk instruments like mandolin, banjo, ukelele, tin whistle and most recently the ocarina. I tried to learn piano once but I was rubbish D: Mostly I play rock, punk and metal, along with the occasional bits and pieces of folk and blues, so I like to think I have at least a little bit of variety in my music :p

I listen to a shit ton of music, yet all I've ever learned to play is the saxophone, and I was never the best. Really only played to hang out with my friends in marching band.

I've tried to learn guitar from my Dad about three times, but I just can't bring myself to stick to it.

I started on piano about 30 years ago and have played that for quite a while. I also played trumpet back in high school. Mostly now I play some piano and have spent a lot of time learning to play the guitar.

If I could go back and do it all again, I would probably have taken up cello in middle school and played that rather than trumpet.

Welcome!

I've been singing (choral and jazz) for various groups for 15 years, with no signs of stopping. It's a lot of fun, I'm good enough at reading music that I don't need to practice, and since I sound more like Sinatra than Freddie Mercury, I wasn't going to be a rock star anyway ;)

I have a harmonica...? I'm not good at it, but I have one! :D

I'm more of a singer, though I've only ever had one professional singing lesson (they're super expensive and I'm poor =[ )
I practice every day though, so I'm hoping if I learn new stuff slowly, I can get better!

How do you go about joining groups/choirs? Is there options like that for novice's too? O:

Sidenote: With how many people play instrments/sing, an Escapist band would be awesome.... *daydreams*

Welcome. I played the piano once and deeply regret not continuing with it. Still, I wouldn't even have room for an electric keyboard in my house at the moment. It's a lovely and versatile instrument. Easy to pick up on and satisfying to master.

Hello!
I'm a musician as well. I'm a guitarist and an electronic music producer (when I can find the time anyways :p).

Like the others, I too welcome you.

I'm a saxophone player, specifically alto and bari. I started playing alto in middle school band, which carried on into high school where I also played bari in jazz band. I also played for two years at my university which gave me the chance to march in the Macy's parade in New York. Back in 2008, my friends and I started a ska band and we're still playing to this day. We've got a CD out, toured last year, and I'm heading in this weekend to record some more. I love that I've found more to do with it other than playing in school, unlike so many others I know.

I'm a composer about to graduate college (also play saxophone and piano), though right now I'm working on some concert production.

Just thought I'd say to anybody envious of others' "talent": all it takes to be good at music (or anything, for that matter) is practice. Nobody's born with an innate virtuosity; we all get there with practice. My point is that even if you don't think you have what it takes to be better at music, you do!

Bingo!

Talent is a small part of being good at music. Many of us overcome a lack of natural talent through practice & hard work :)

I play guitar, trombone, piano, and a mean tambourine. I also sing. I'm only decent at one of those things. Two if you count the joke response of tambourine, because I'm good at hitting things.
