Australian Whovian at your service. Like some of the others have said it's far too early for me to form an opinion of Smith as the Doctor compared to Tennant.

OT: I have spent some time in the US and watched a few episodes but what jarred me most was the advertisements.
Unlike US shows which have scene breaks that allow ads to intersect the show, BBC shows don't so it just suddenly cuts.
I'm just used to it playing through X3

Another Canadian fan here. I really like David Tennant, although I havent really seen enough of the other two to make a firm judgement.

Ya I watch it too, the new ones atleast.
But I only found David Tennant to really fit that wacky yet scary doctor role, Christopher Eccleston is too serious looking, and Matt Smith is too... soft I guess, the wacky parts come off as childish and the serious parts don't really seem serious at all.

They are all fine actors, but you haveto find the right guy to fit the role, especially with Doctor Who where his character is half the show.

German Doc Who Fan here too.

Sonicron said:
Doctor Who isn't that big a hit over here, but the average German's taste in television is a load of crap anyway.

EDIT: What I can say is that I liked Christopher Eccleston better than David Tennant.
While "our" tastes are pretty awful (then again, probably not much more than American or other tastes), it's fair to say that German TV Channels never gave much of a s**t for the good Doctor anyways.

In the early ninties, as far as i heard, the Channel VOX (wait, did that one even exist back then?) ran a few episodes from one of the 80ies Who runs, but apperantly never even bothered to air a full series/season.

With the launch of the reworked 2005-series, Pro 7, the channel that airs stuff like Lost (well, used to), The Simpsons or Fringe, picked up the first "new" season/series and ran it without much of a fanfare on saturday afternoons along with a god-awful show called Primeval (wich was slightly more popular and was, at least for a time, aired during prime time hours mid-week). As expected, it didn't do well. After a big delay in between they also aired some episodes of the second season, but i don't even think they got through all of them before cancelling it.

So yeah, essentially hardly anyone even knows about Doctor Who over here, despite the massive popularity in UK and geekier parts of the US.

As for myself, i really like the "New Who" for it's combination of cheesy Sci-Fi ideas and stories that are much more clever and exciting than expected.

As for Smith....weeeeeell, i wasn't really fond of him when he was first announced as the next Doctor, especially since i really hoped for a slightly older Doctor after Tennant left. Well, to be exact, i really hoped for James Nesbitt after seeing "Jekyll", wich at times seemed appropriately much like a Bizarro Version of Doc Who.
But i really enjoyed the last season, more so than some of the others, and Smith did really well, so i'm okay with him now.

(Also, i did not like Tennant until the third season, but then again the second one was probably the weakest for me. Would've really liked another season with Ecclestone)

(Oh and also: Why is John Simm so mistreated as "The Master", plotwise. The first two Episodes in wich he appeared were excellent only to end with a really bad case of stupid plot devices. And his return in the last Tennant Season...let's just say i was unimpressed what they did with the character. I really hope we see him again as a more recurring character...probably as a replacement for the Daleks, wich already got slightly boring before they were turned into color-coded-gumball-machines...Don't get me wrong, they are generally awesome, but just let them stay that way)

I used to watch it. I stopped when David Tennant got boring and haven't really gone back. I watched the first couple of Smith episode but they just seemed like he was trying to be Tennant so I just left it and never came back.

Austrian (not Australian, mind you) Doctor fan here :)

Good thing I've seen a few episodes during my holidays in the UK.
I'm pretty sure there's never been a single episode on TV here, but hey, Amazon is your friend.

Yeah I'm Aussie and Dr. Who is good. That being said there are several things I hate about the show from crappy scripts to stupid alien designs (RTD era).

I'm Swedish and I'm not sure if I would call myself a fan, but I do like it (I've only watched the newer seasons though).

Australian here

I feel Tennant started better but his development declined my view of his Doctor. Smith's Doctor will need to develop a little more before I can decide which one I like more. Both bring their own something to the Doctor doesn't matter if it's good or bad it's character development. Out of the new series so far I liked Eccleston the most.

Ireland! :p
I much prefer David Tennant so far. I'll have to wait for the next series to see improvement in Smith and oh yes I almost forgot get the fuck rid of Amy Pond!

I was wondering if any one on here watches Doctor Who and lives abroad and more particularly what your perspective is on the Smith veres Tennant debate and Stephen Moffat's series vs Russel T Davis' series?
Canada here ... Although I did have some problems with the near constant changes to the doctor I have to say each brings their own twist to it. I am definately a Tennant fan though. His natural twitchiness seems to suit the role well.

Scottish here.

Long time fan- I haev in fact seen everything that was televised, from An Unearthly Child to The Big Bang. I would rank my doctors thusly (from best to worst)

1: Patrick Troughton (2nd)
2: William Hartnell (1st)
3: Tom Baker (4th)
4: Matt Smith (11th)
5: Sylvestor McCoy (7th)
6: Colin Baker (6th)
7: Christopher Eccleston (9th)
8: Peter Davison (5th)
9: Jon Pertwee (3rd)
10: Paul McGann (8th)
11: David Tennant (10th)

So, as you can see I far prefer Matt Smith to Tennant. Smith has incorporated buits of the Doctors personality across all incarnations, most notably from the 1st, 2nd and 6th incarnations, while Tennant's performance never really struck me as the same character that the other actors had played. 10th was also too human- the Doctors an alien, not a hyperactive eccentric human. Also, a lot of Russel T Davies episodes were dreadful- as in Timelash dreadful. Early in Peter Davisons career as the Doctor, then executive producer John Nathan Turner, in the Visitation, insisted that the sonic screw driver be written out of the show, as it had become a clutch for lazy writing- at this point it was nowhere near as ridiculous as it was during the Tennant years.

And yes, I did really like Colin Baker and Sylvestor McCoy that much. Although thats probably due to Big Finish (where those two have been really awesome).
