I bought a brand new copy of FFIX last year for $70. From a game store who also stocked brand new copies of VII and VIII each for the same price. My real desire is to get all 7 .hack games. They are damn expensive and impossible to find, especially in Australia. Damn PAL region. People seem to only want to sell the NTSC versions...

Recently, I've been searching for some old classic games to buy, as at the moment I; want something new to play, have little disposable income and want to try different genres that I've not previously explored. So I've been scouring the internet, reading reviews and checking prices, to find the best games for the lowest cost, which will generally be old games that have had a lot of time to depreciate in value. Case in point; a couple of months ago I managed to get Resident Evil 4 for about £7 in the UK (roughly $11) and it was amazing!

However there are some games that I, in general, just want to play, but can't due to either it's rarity or ridiculously high price. For example, I really really really want Shadow Of The Colossus, Ico and Final Fantasy VII. Games of the past that I missed out on and really want to enjoy (especially SOTC), but cost way more than I'm willing to pay for games that came out years ago - or for game at all! For example, getting SOTC new on Amazon.co.uk, would cost at least £50 ($77) or I could get it used at £30 ($46). This is similar for the other two, Ico is £64 ($98) new and FFVII is £50 ($77). I really want these games, but either I don't have enough money, or I'm just not willing to pay that kind of money on a game.

My question to the Escapist is this; Have you ever encountered similar instances when you want to get an old game really badly, but it's never quite within your reach (or in this case, price range)?

Plenty. Took me ages to find decent, working, and cheap (i.e. affordable for me) copies of American McGee's Alice and the original Half-Life. Worth the effort though. Right now my quest is focused on tracking down a good quality, affordable, copy of Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines. You wouldn't believe how much people are asking as starting bids for that game on eBay... :(

Homeworld 2... the only copies are on the internet, and I don't have a credit card so I can't buy them (also too lazy to buy a pre-paid debit card). Owell, I can live without it... I had a burnt copy, but it was from a friend, and when I saw that is wasn't legit I gave it back to him. I ended up playing the demo, and it was pretty fun, but nowhere near as cool looking as the full game is (gameplay footage tortures me).

Thanks for the advice, but those games wouldn't work on my PS2 as they're the US version; I live in the UK, and even when I use google to find it for PAL region, it just comes up with the amazon result anyway.

Amazingly, No

because of this fantastic small shop
called "GamesMasters" up leith
pretty much all PC games = £2.50
all the PS1 games = £5 or lower

I love it <3
That wouldn't be Leith, Edinburgh, would it? I've been wanting to track down some of the old LucasArts point and clicks, a few PS1 games and some other PC games that slip my mind at the moment.

After seeing how bad it was slammed, I want a copy of Cheetah Men 2. Look it up and you will see the 2 reasons why I can't get it...well...the main reason, I can always get a replacement NES or, one of the independently produced consoles that play NES cartridges. There is also a part of me that wants Fire Red and/or Leaf Green but what I really want is my old copy of Silver for the GBC back. I am sure my cousin stole it but I've never been able to find it or proof of his theft

Zone of the Enders 2 and Resident Evil 3, these were good games, however time hasn't been kind to my DVD/CD respectively so my copies no longer function. The torrents for these things are dead too, so D:

Just trying to FIND Crash Bandicoot 1 is nigh impossible. The price that these people are giving me are twice as ridiculous.

Legend of Mana. I refuse to pay 100$+ for it on Ebay but it's the only place I can actually find it. ><

And Earthbound. I forgot about Earthbound. You know, Nintendo could put out Earthbound on limited release on the virtual console for a month, charge 2000 points for it, and I would still buy it. They won't do it, though. Cowards.
That and don't forget mother. all of the earthbound character-starring gaems have been awesome.

OP: What i really want to get above anything else right now is Banjo Tooie. the Banjo Kazooie Adventure games were probably some of the best games i've ever played, without any exaggeration. I found the first one a while ago and now i need to get my hands on the second, because i rememver they were both simply: AWESOME.

the newest one for Xbox 360 was a failure if epic proportions tho... sad face...

And lastly, Shadow of the Colossus: Need i say more?
