Every December I get together with my sisters and we dig out Mario 64, DKC Trilogy, Sonic 2, Zelda OoT and all the other games we played for hours as kids. I've still got some of the original cartridges/systems so I'll break those out again if I can, otherwise the Wii VC hosts most of my old favourites. I break out Smash Tennis when Wimbledon's on, and I try and replay Tales of Symphonia once every couple of years.

Any games you regularly come back to?

i have two.
the first is a strategic wargame from the mid 80's called theatre europe. basically about a warsaw pact invasion of west germany and all you have to do is either halt the advance for 30 days or conquer west germany in the same time. you are moving little circles around a map of western europe and its still one of the most immersive war games ive ever played, and still sends a shiver down my spine where that dot matrix printer slowly fails when you loose

second would be b-17 the mighty 8th. old flight sim, where you control a b-17 bomber and possibly a squadron during daylight bombing in world war 2. old but still remarkably stands up really well graphically even today. seeing those black puffs from exploding anti aircraft shells in front of you and knowing there is absolutely nothing you can do but fly straight through it and hope you arent shot down is both horrible and exciting, even more so when your bomber limps home, an engine down, holes in the wings big enough to climb through, crew injured.

totally amazes me and give me a whole new respect for the men who did it for real

Transport Tycoon Deluxe.
I don't think there is a game out there that I've come back to as much as that one, and I just recently got back to it yet again. Every time I think I'm over it, it just pulls me back in.
The original Dues Ex is also another one I return too a lot and have played through that game so many times already. Every couple of years I need to reinstall and play through the whole thing, it's become a tradition almost.

I always come back to Persona 4 every once in a while. I would make it a tradition to do a playthrough every year but fucking hell, it's a long ass game and like I have the time for that.

Also a couple of Visual Novels for me. I occasionally load up Grisaia no Kaijitsu and do another few scenes down Michiru's Route because Michiru is Best Girl. I have yet to see a more genuinely hilarious character since Kenji from Katawa Shoujo.

Also Comyu because I have to get progress on my laptop cuz my PC has the 100% progress saves. If only I didn't have to get through four other routes before I can do canon True Ending Best Girl Kagome... Like Mayuki is good and Benio is passable but Saejima is awful and Ayaya is maximum filler.

Chrono Trigger.

At one point, I had a tradition of playing it once a year, every year, but I had to break away from that because I was wearing out my enjoyment.

It's just such a great RPG, and it's not even that long! Which, in this case, I consider to be a good thing. A consistently engaging 20 hours is better than a padded 50 hours; this is a lesson that JRPG devs REALLY need to learn.

Loved that game, thanks for reminding me about it! I'm gonna have to dig out my old copy if I still have it.

Sure, though I guess it would depend on what you consider qualifies something as "regularly". A bunch of older Star Wars games (been replaying Dark Forces II again over the past few days), Sonic the Hedgehog (1, 2, 3 & Knuckles, CD), Kingdom Hearts, Final Fantasy, Pokemon, Halo, Fable, Devil May Cry.

Some older games I've only just begun really playing for the first time in the past few years I could see myself returning to in the future as well, like Warcraft II and III, Syndicate, System Shock, the Chrono games, Metal Gear Solid, Beyond Good & Evil.

Even some newer games are on the list: Bioshock, Batman: Arkham, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Mirror's Edge, Mass Effect, Diablo III...

I don't get through my backlog very quickly.

Heroes of Might and Magic 3. I play it all the time, in between load screens etc etc. Same with Fallout/II. Silent Storm (overlooked but very cool JA type of game, find it on GoG if you've never played it) and JA2. Lots of turn based stuff you can play while doing other stuff.

Since I refuse to play any (non-mmo) game with any compulsory online verification I'm pretty much stuck with older games.
Also wading through endless masses of freeware and alpha/beta games to find those nuggets with a shine.

Known games I regularly play would include Freelancer, Settlers II, Dungeon Siege II, Fallout 2, Morrowind, Torchlight, Diablo II, Titan Quest, Sword of the Stars, Space Empires IV, Alpha Centari, Master of Orion III, Etc.

Currently doing a Hard playthrough of RA2: Yuri's Revenge. One of my favourite RTS campaigns.

Although that game added probably the most imbalanced faction in RTS history. Yuri's army is OP as hell, but that's probably what makes the campaign so fun.

I used to go back and replay Final Fantasy IV and The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past quite often back in the day. Also replayed Metal Gear Solid 2 a number of times and also Zone of the Enders, which I really enjoyed. Lately I just don't really have time to replay my old games with so many new games being released, a pretty large backlog, and much less time available for gaming than I would prefer. The last games I replayed would be Batman Arkham Asylum and Uncharted 2, but I can't say that there are any games that I regularly return to anymore.

The Lion King (SNES):
Just a solid game from back in the day with graphics that manage to hold up now.

Chrono Cross:
I REALLY love this game, and I've beaten it enough to almost go 'automatic'.

Well let's see, there's probably quite a few.

Spyro
Spyro 2
Spyro 3
Spyro: Enter the Dragonfly
Pokemon Emerald
Super Mario World
Spiderman (PS1)
Dino Crisis 1
Dino Crisis 2
Rollercoaster Tycoon 2
NHL 99
Ico

Probably more, but these are top tier for me.
