Any point in not selling the xbox 360 for the new consoles?

I know we gamers like to horde, but I'm starting to wonder how feasible it is anymore. To put it bluntly, the new consoles have so many moving parts what's the likely hood they'll still be running a decade from now? Two decades from now?

Also all my old consoles are just sorta taking up space. I'm wondering if I should just let it all go.

You must ask yourself one simple question: Do you still have games you like on it.

If yes, keep it.
If no, maybe think about selling it. However, you won't get much from it. You can always repurpose the machine as something else.

Keep your old consoles and they'll appreciate in value. Probably. Heck, I dunno. Some of them do that, so you might as well slip them inside plastic packaging to keep them "fresh" in case things like backwards compatibility are discontinued. Like duwenbasden said, you won't get much for an xbox 360 right now anyway.

In an age where sequels come out within a year of the originals release and reboots and HD Remakes are becoming the bulk of the next gen line-up, I wouldn't hold my breath on a system appreciating in value unless nostalgia takes hold.

As for the question at hand. I'd hang on to the system. You're not going to get much for a used 360 and if its still in good condition, you might be able to use it to revisit older games that you may own.

I wouldn't even consider it unless the new consoles were backwards compatible and even then I would have to be starving to death. I am the type of person that replays games that I like, So this question doesn't even make sense to me.

You can play any old 360 games on it plus any original Xbox games. Trading it in would not get you much money anyway, as others here have said, you may as well keep it.

It depends on what games you like, the big popular titles might get rereleased however niche exclusives probably won't. Since my tastes veer to the niche (Japanese action games, Shmups and other arcade games on disk and XBLA) I plan on keeping my 360.

Besides gaming is in a transition phase atm, who knows in what form they'll be in 1 or 2 decades emulation technology might be 100% accurate it might not be with some type of games play better than others, same as laggy LCD TV's affected rhythm, fighters etc. On the other end games as a service might be all there is with PSN style subscriptions for the right to play games stored on the cloud.

I'd rather have the originals so I'm safe, if I need the space I can always throw the plastic cases in the cellar/shed with the disks in a CD wallet and cover sleeves in a binder safe from moisture.

I might even buy another 360 before MS pull XBL and download all my digital games and DLC to it so I have a spare.

I reckon you should keep it. The amount of old Xbox 360 games I've been able to pick up cheaply of late is staggering. As a result my 360 has been getting a hell of a lot of play.

The 360 isn't really backwards compatible. You can emulate some Xbox games on it, but not all of them. Plus, the ones that do work don't always work very well on there. I still agree with keeping it though, if only for 360 games.

You can't play 360 games on the new consoles. Well, there are a few you can buy back like GTAV, Sleeping Dogs and, the two Metro games but if there are any games you really like on the 360 that you don't want to give up or, if there are games from last gen that interest you that you haven't played yet, than you should definitely hold onto the 360.

I'm keeping mine. Granted, I haven't played an actual game on it, or even signed in to my 360 account, in months (it might even be over a year now), but I still have a massive library for it, and one day I'll no doubt want to jump back in and do a run of Gears of War, Mass Effect, or something else.

At the very least, perhaps one day my children will want to play it to see what things were like. I still have my original Xbox and PS2 even. I don't like selling something that I've invested so much money in.

I'm a game hoarder, so I'm the worst person to ask, but I think selling consoles is the worst thing you can do as a gamer. At the very least, you can pull out the system again in the future if you are wanting to share one of your experiences with someone else. That alone is worth having over the day's wage (at minimum wage) you can hope to get by losing your collection.

Exactly like my PS3. I've bought about 5 games in the last 9 months for my PS3 from, including GTA V, and I've spent less than $100 (and I live in Australia).

The Xbox One has no backwards compatibility and the 360 is worth nothing at the moment, so if you're thinking of moving to the One, keep the 360. At least for the time being.
As for your older consoles, that's really up to you. If you don't play them at all, then it might be time. If you have a console made in the 80s to mid-90s, some of them alone might net you close to $100-200 or even higher depending where you sell them.

At a time where there are still a bunch of games I want to play on it, and not much I want on the new gens, I'm keeping mine. But that's my reason, and it might not be worth it to you.

No hoarding on my end. I don't even own a Playstation older than 3, original Xbox, or Nintendo console anymore.

you'll regret it a few years from now when you really wanna go back and play those games you now can't.

plus, the new consoles are paper weights atm. get a job and start saving up. or, stop buying starbucks every day and save up.

Mass produced electronics are not collector's items.

Backward compatibility is already gone with each new generation of console (except nintendo sometimes).

On Topic: Keep it, backward capability will never happen with Microsoft, and you might regret it, though a 360 is in no way comparable, I will always regret selling my N64.
