There was this really campy TV show in Australia when I was a kid called "Spellbinder".

Basically, these kids at a school camp somehow got teleported to a magical, pseudo medieval land, stole something important (or otherwise pissed somebody off) and fled, but were followed by a "spellbinder". A lot of the humour and drama came from this scary magic lady getting confused by modern technology and terminology.

A guy pulls up in a muscle car and this lady starts talking to him

"What is this... Machine?"
"Ohh, it's me new baby. 550 horses in there"
"Don't be foolish! You couldn't even fit one".

Classic.
Oh, vaguely remember that.

Also, Hocus Pocus...don't watch that movie.

The two I can think of that no one mention yet are Mummies Alive!, Meet the Robinsons and does Back to the Future count?

Also does someone from the future sent to the present count since Star Trek series had done that a few times.

God I hate that concept used in media. It annoyed me to no end when the character act like "what is this" or "what is that?".

EDIT- I just remember that French anime wannabe show Martin Mystery were one of the main casts is Java, caveman. There was one episode dedicated to his origin as in how they thaw him out of the ice and with him learning the modern way.

Yeah...that's why I'd prefer a zombie apocalypse going on or something, less mucking around having awkward misunderstandings which are supposed to be funny, but still able to use modern locations.

...

Oh, Mako Mermaids (under various alternative titles). Three mermaids interact with humans on land. Quite a bit of comedic not understanding of things, but not too much, IMHO.

I would like to know: are there any stories out there in books, movies, tv shows, fanfiction etc where a person from a fantasy world or a time traveler is sent to the modern world? IF so where?
All of the comic Fables is about characters from fairy tales in our world. The game "wolf among us" is a spin off from it i believe.

Well, there's that disney movie: "Enchanted" I think. Where a disney princess shows up in the real world.

I'm also pretty sure I've seen an anime like that. It was a comedy, based on his antics reacting to everything, but I can't remember which one. I honestly can't remember anything about it.

You could try the anime Asu no Yoichi. It's sorta similar. The MC didn't travel through time, but he was raised in the mountains by his father as a samurai until he was 16, so you get kinda the same antics. Fair warning though, it's a harem. As I recall, it was pretty funny.

There are episodes like that in Inuyasha, another anime. The main show is the reverse, but sometimes the half demon travels through time to find the MC.

I wanna say I've seen a movie like that as well, but that might be my imagination.

Interesting topic. If I remember any more, I'll be sure to comment them in.

Sleepy Hollow is a current TV show with that sort of plot. Not quite a "time travel through portal" or anything but more of a "put in a magical death-like sleep and revived in our time".

Now I think about it, wouldn't the Disney films like Enchanted, Splash and The Little Mermaid count that is depending what the OP mean by "modern" world? Modern as in this very day or modern as the literal present setting used in that film setting?

There's an episode in the series Supernatural in which this happens.
A demon sends the two main characters into "our universe" were of course, no demons and angels excist, and were the two main characters are two actors in a TV series.
Funny episode :D

Am at work now so won't start searching for it, but if you want the episode name and number, quote me, ask and I'll search it up when I have time.
There's been a few by season 7. The phoenix, 7 had The Untouchables where Dean geeks out... I can't remember any else right now, in addition to that French something.

"A French Mistake" was the episode I was thinking about.
Season 6, episode 15.

I know the other ones you're talking about too.
But I don't think those are wgat he's after, "A French Mistake" is exactly what he asks for, just because they're doing something "normal" in those other episodes there are still supernatural creatures in them.

There's a French movie called "Les Visiteurs" (The visitors) It's about a 12th century knight and his squire who get sent to the future. (Well, the 90's to be exact.) I caught it on TV once, and it became one of my favorite comedies.

There was a romantic comedy with Hugh Jackman and Meg Ryan called Kate and Leopold which involved an edwardian gentlemen being sent into the modern day. It's not particularly good overall and there are some unfortunate implications in it but the fish out of water stuff I recall being good because of Hugh Jackman's acting chops.

Not specifically what you mentioned, but you hit so many keywords I have to mention it.

You might like the Iron Druid Chronicles book series by Kevin Hearne. It's set in today's modern world, but adopts many fantasy elements from most of the world's religions and mythologies. Follows the adventures of the last Druid (circa 0 AD) in his attempts to survive, since one tends to find many enemies over the course of 2000 years.

[Mild spoiler] Specifically to what you were asking, in book 7- Shattered- a character is brought back from ~2000 years prior and plonked in today's world. His insights and commentaries are both interesting and funny; "They've covered up the Earth, Atticus" in response to seeing a road.

It's a fantastic series; book 1 is called Hounded, and it's worth a read to anybody that likes creative and non-generic adventures with deep characters and clever humour.

Hope you find what you're looking for, though! =)
While it really isn't what he's looking for, I just have to throw in and agree that this series is awesome.

Enchanted is a movie about fairy tales characters (generic, not anything recognizable) passing onto the real world. It's pretty good.

Once Upon a Time is the obvious answer, too.

it is called enchino man
In 1984, there was a movie called Iceman that was based on that premise. And unlike Encino Man, it WASN'T a festering pile of excrement pretending to be a comedy.

In all honesty, it's actually one I want to go back and watch again. Intelligent science fiction that wrangles with ethical and moral problems, and does it well, are far too rare.
