I played Modern Warfare at my Cousin's place for about two hours. Dual wield some powerful handguns and go Rambo on their asses. K/D score on my second game was 52/3.

Shit be easy man. I'd never even touched a PS3 before either, let alone a Call of Duty game.

2. Don't care about your deaths. You die check the killcam respawn and forget you were on a killstreak. It might just be me but whenever I actually try to get high killstreaks I have trouble even getting a spy plane half the time, but when I stop caring at all I can suddenly run around mowing down every enemy in sight. So basically what I'm saying is just have fun with it and try to not get annoyed or anything because you will just end up playing worse.
Totally this... best advice on the thread.

Can't believe I forgot to mention it.

Never play COD when you're angry or frustrated, stop immediately if you start to get annoyed with it because you'll more than likely start playing really badly when pissed off.

I learned this the hard way after one two many red-faced rage sessions :D
I learned this little COD secret when someone was talking to me while I was playing so I slipped off my headphones and didn't really try only to end up being an unstoppable god of death. It seems that the less I try to do well at COD the better I end up doing, it took many rage-filled matches of MW2 to discover this.

When using a gun like the FAMAS or GALIL DO NOT hold down the fire button, it throws off your aim and you'll most likely get yourself killed, plus no one likes a sprayer. Tap the trigger button and your aim will be more accurate.

This usually takes me about 2 minutes, just dying once, it's gotten to the point of me hating in the purest form any FPS game on the planet. Any suggestions? And no, "chill out" is NOT a suggestion...

Also, the "kill cam shows you never firing a shot" thing? Happens to me EVERY time. All my bullets just magically dissipate, I've even fired 203s, have them hit someones feet, and never do any damage! Damn, even THINKING about these games tick me off...

I hear you... very true.

I remember one night I was dying sick with the flu and too run down to give a shit how I did. Ended up winning 6 Free For Alls in a row. That was a good night :)

you can start off with the newer ones, which are some of the most fast paced shooters out there

but if you want true challenges

Call of Duty 2: it is fast paced, though more tactical than the newer ones by not having the ability to sprint, the weapons cannot be modified and there are no kill streaks either, nor Perks

now, if you want to be a tough son of a *****

Call of Duty and Call of Duty United Offensive

the very first one and the expansion pack, you see, this is the most primitive of the series, it has no health regeneration at all, you can't sprint, weapons cannot be modified, and the grenade (frag only) is on a different weapon tab, that is, you gotta select it before using it, instead, it allows you to carry 3 weapons and the grenades, the weapons would be, uh, for example: an SMG, a Sniper and the pistol

this Call of Duty isn't as fast paced, but it's the most hardcore of the whole series, by having you think your actions properly, if you get shot, you will not recover until you kill someone and take their medkit

though it's PC exclusive

still they're great multiplayer experiences, and there's lots of people playing them, so I recommend you picking them up, they are quite cheap nowadays

also, they have kickass campaigns, especially CoD 2's Russian campaign

remember, this is just my opinion, mostly because those are my two favorite FPSs, you may or may not like them, I'm just giving you some extra options, just for the hell of it =P

then again, I'm more of a classic guy

I got into a vicious cycle when I started playing MW2, I would try hard which would make me die over and over which made me frustrated which ended up with me saying "screw it" and not caring then I would do well and then start trying hard again.

Actually, the reason I stopped playing Black Ops as of late might of been because for 5 freaking matches in a row I got my Blackbird/CG combo, sometimes twice, got a little boring.

Also, how do you play Free-For-All? You have no meat-shields, no one to let run into a building before you to trigger any claymores and draw fire.

I dunno, I think I got lucky that night. Other players in the lobby weren't the best. I rarely play free for all so I was surprised I did so well.

I hate team-mates in COD - I play Mercenary TDM mostly (as for some reason I play terribly when I'm in party - it's really weird like I literally become a really bad player as soon as I join a party) and due to the strange matchmaking I get many, many games where I'll go something like 20-4 and still lose as every other person on the team is negative.

So to answer your question... FFA is refreshing sometimes because you only have to rely on yourself...

I know where you're coming from, I can destory people by myself but the second a friend joins me I suck. Teammates also suck but I hate playing solo because I get paranoid and always feel like everyone knows where I am and is about to shoot me in the back, that's why I love teammates because they are at least sometimes decent at being a meat-shield. Kind of annoying though when you go 30 to -79 and still lose because you're entire team ended up spending more time trying to kill the ground then the enemy.

I think I just got lucky and actually had the godawful players on the enemy team for once when I went on my killstreakstreak.

I can't really comment on the matchmaking since I'm a PC player, which actually solves one of my problems, since PC uses Dedicated Servers we only get a change team button which makes it hard to get on the same side as one person and impossible with more which means I have a excuse to not play with friends and suck. >.>

Call of Duty practically has a monopoly on the Youtube gaming scene. The number of commentators out there is mind-boggling. If you want ones that will help you get better, I'd suggest xJawz, WoodysGamerTag, and SeaNanners. If you want entertaining ones, I'd suggest MisterFantasmo, Essindees (he goes by Synwyn on Youtube), and Hutch.

For class, if I'm trying to do the best possible I'd probably go AK74u with grip and rapid fire, ghost, warlord, and hacker, for perks, semtex, concussion nades and tactical insertion for equipment, and spy plane, counter spy plane, and napalm for killstreaks.

The most important thing to know about CoD is that if you're able to start shooting a guy before he sees you, you will win almost all the time. Always look for opportunities to flank and sneak up on fellas. Good luck.

Switch to Tactical controller layout (360) for easier dropshots. People will call you cheap, but those people are dumb.

In Black Ops, use Ak-74u or FAMAS at all times. They're pretty obviously the best weapons.

ALWAYS use Ninja. I don't care how awesome Hacker Pro is, it doesn't make your footsteps silent. This is the single largest advantage you can have in Call of Duty.

Learn grenade spots. Knowing exactly where to throw your Semtex at the start of a match can net you quite a few free kills.

Can't remember really, I know I watched one of his Super Mario World hacks and was drawn in. He's laid back and pretty good at CoD. Been a fan for about a year now.

Yeah, on console it's different, we basically have to pray we get a good connection to the host, or get ready to watch killcams where we are half a second to a second behind them. It really sucks when you know you should have got them but the game says 'NO!'.

Then you get host the odd time and it's like every other player becomes super slow... you get kills that make you go 'wow that guy really should have killed me'

This smells like porkies to me.

52-3 on your second game. Hmmm.

And no multiplayer game is 'easy'. The challenge depends on who you are playing against.

Honestly, Black ops is very hit and miss. the game is so imbalanced that it's really down to luck most of the time.

A few things you can do, as stated earlier: Stick to the edge of the map. Aim as your walking around a corner so you have that split second advantage. Look at the heat maps on the Combat record that show the exact positions of yours and your team mates deaths. then you'll know where the least people go and where the least deaths have happened.

Infact, if you want, you can feel free to drop me a F/R ( If your on the Xbox ) Just search the Tag "vI Dark Star Iv" Same goes for anyone else...it might make me want to actually play the game again...

Aside from what everybody has said i'll throw alittle more on your plate.

take it slower to begin, as people have said running gets you killed, but moving slower as you move around the map always remember to check your corners and your rear, learning to read your UAV correctly can take sometime, but will also help you locate enemies even when there is spy plane up.

Most people say not to use a suppressor, i would recommend it myself as this allows you to control the engagement better and how many people you can take on at a single time, and doesn't draw that much attention to you. it generally plays like a counter UAV for the bad to good players.

i would also recommend using ghost until you feel comfortable, while you might not be strong yourself, you don't want to be punished further by your teammates incompetence.

I do have one question tho, what game modes do you prefer to play?

Best general setup is FAMAS with Ghost, Sleight of Hand and Hacker, but if you don't want people to think you're a one dimensional scrub, stick with the M16 and use Hardline, Hardened and Hacker, that's always a good bet. Like another poster said, get Hardened Pro as soon as possible, it doesn't have any horribly difficult challenges to unlock it and it has an awesome pro effect. Also, Gas Grenades aren't that great.

Use low level killstreaks, most high level KSRs in Blops aren't very rewarding unless you are a pubstar dominator. Counter Spy Plane is especially annoying for the victim, but SAM Turret gets you a lot of XP from all the spy planes it shoots down.

At your level, you'd probably not want to use LMGs, shotguns or snipers, they suck pretty bad. Treyarch's LMGs and shotties never have very much punch (M60 Big Ammo being a delicious exception), and they gimped snipers because of Youtube Heroes in MW2. Also, most of the guns are fairly similar. The Enfield, Galil, AK47 and Commando are almost exactly the same thing, as are the FAMAS/AUG and M14/FAL.

CoD isn't that hard to master, it's just a matter of playing the game long enough to get confident at it, then you can do whatever the hell you feel like. If you're really not sure about how the game works, try not to rush recklessly. Don't camp in a corner either, your final score will probably be 5 kills and 2 deaths or some unexciting crap like that. Just try to follow your teammates, be aware of your angles and watch those green arrows on the mini map incase your team dies and spawn switches.

As for youtube commentators, most of them just use the game as a backdrop for telling random stories. You won't really learn much from any of their tactics until you can consistently go 2 or 3:1 each game and you're actually at the point of emulating what they do. IMO the only thing worth watching is xcalizorz's live commentaries or WoodysGamertag (who calls himself "the unexceptional gamer", he has a lot of tips for the average CoD guy). Don't get caught up with any of their other opinions though, Youtube Heroes can instill a lot of negativity towards your average CoD player, especially WingsofRedemption. Also, there'll be a lot of them who talk about things like gun vs gun and game stats and whatnot, but most of them don't know what they're talking about.

I know this goes against one of my other pieces of advice, but if this is
tl;dr
then the most important thing you should remember is:
TRY EVERYTHING. USE WHAT IS BEST FOR YOU.
But try to vary as much as possible so you don't get shoehorned into a single setup.

What's the Tactical layout?
