Despite a gaming ground (have dice will travel) here in Poole I've never actually met a person who plays the game. How many of the players are localised in the UK (England in particular?)
I've played some games in the US where it seems considerably more popular.

And for the sake of discussion, name one awesome/funny/terrifying thing that's happened if you have played the game.
One time while playing encounters the little imp kept turning invisible. One group had the insight to fire a light arrow into it. Our group sent the minotaur to headbutt the wall until he happened to get a hit. 21 HP and a new 'Concussion' perk later, they changed tactics.

I've never met any, been looking into it but never actually bothered to find people and just ended up playing Neverwinter Nights or Baldur's Gate. Really not sure where you'd find DnD players, I'm sure they're scattered about but don't talk about it much or something.

If there's a university in your town, go down to their student union and ask if there's a gaming or role-play society. They may even have a website, send them an email and ask if they mind outsiders joining their group, many won't mind at all. Some may ask you to join up, with small membership fees.

I was in Leicesters games soc. and they didn't mind non-students coming along. Age wasn't an issue as there were some middle-aged students anyways.

Otherwise, god's knows.

I remember while playing world of darkness we'd just defeated a werewolf and a town full of zombies on our way to our next adventure we stopped to hunt some food and got owned and outsmarted by a moose even going so far as trapping one of our own members in a sack and clubbing him unconscious thinking he was the moose.

Should check out ukroleplayers.com ... that'd be a pretty good place to find out uk roleplayers. :p

They also have a directory of all the registered gaming clubs they can find, complete with Googlemap points.

Me and a group of friends play regularly we're in wales though so i doubt i could be of any help.

The awesome thing of mine was at level 3 diving headlong into 40 goblins (i was a bard dual wielding longswords) and managed to kill 39 of them whilst my friend who was a warrior fumbled every roll, and i only took 3 damage through the entire fight, twas glorious (also in same scenario my friend playing grave born forgot what he was doing and begin conversing with a goblin only for me to hit it dead in the head with a throwing knife, friends character continued to converse with the corpse many laughs were had)

I don't know any D&D players, which sucks ass because I'd love to see what all the fuss is about. Listening to people talk about having played it makes me envious.

Hell to the yes. Because that's how I roll.

One of my favourite moments was a rogue in a group tried to climb over some buildings to flank some goblins and fell to his death. The only character I have ever seen die at 0xp. Another quite satisfying moment was when I bull rushed an enemy off a cliff, and an ally attempted to the same to a displacer beast and then charged headlong off the cliff.
