1. Check if you pressed a button that blocks the function key.

2. Make sure that there is nothing underneath the key that's blocking it.

3. Open your laptop to see if its an easy fix, or send it back to the manufacturer if it's really bugging you.

If the button is completely boned, you can do everything manually from the control panel anyway.

If the key is screwed, you may want to consider investing in a USB/ wireless keyboard; fixing the keys on a laptop is a *****

Any one of the answers is valid. Most likely there's something beneath the key that's blocking it, but don't try to fix it, you may end up with a broken keyboard altogether.

And, worst case, a void warranty as a result

Try to see if there anything lodged underneath the Fn Key, suck as dirt.
Do not try to pull out the key to do this, laptop keyboard keys are notoriously hard to put back on.

Use a can of compressed air or a clean soft plastic bristle cleaning brush, like a clean and dry paint brush.

You can also tip the laptop over and shake it gently to loosen any dirt underneath the keys.

If you have the skill, go through the process to remove the keyboard and check its connection (possibly clean it out as well. Ordering a replacement is usually not to hard, find the part number on the manufacturer's site, then search google shopping for that part (eBay usually does good).
If you lack all skill, call the manufacturer.

Mine popped back in as if that is what they were designed to do.
I guess your one of the more lucky people with laptop keyboard keys.
Although I never said it was impossible to place back on laptop keyboard keys, nor does that statement applies to all brands of laptops but with many brands of laptops, once a key is poped off, your not getting that key back on. Just a fair warring for our friend the OP, lord omad, I did not want him to do something that he later gives him more problems.
