Well, firstly in DAO there was more than one love interest for each geneder, so I doubt that Varric will be teh ONLY female love interest. Also, it does kinda suck to have your sister along for the ride. She's either gonna be the nagging voice of reason, or the nagging voice of revenge. Or Bioware could do something amazing and make her much deeper than that... I have faith in you Bioware, don't let me down.

I know they haven't released them all yet, but the ones they have so far are really boring. I mean, we have Isabela, who I hated in DAO, and am upset to see her again, Aveline, and your brother and sister. Fenris looks like he'll be pretty interesting, but other than that I'm really miffed about this. And what's with the rumors that Varric is the female's LI? Because I would rather vomit blood than even consider??*vomits*

Personally, I would love to have another qunari, since I liked Sten and now they have horns :)
Erm, it's more than likely a Qunari companion will be available... so I don't see why you're complaining.
It's not the possibility of no qunari that's annoying me; it's that most of the characters they've released so far look fairly uninteresting.

I hope so, because I'll have to have her around for at least one playthrough, unless they give us another mage. Either way, I'm sure she won't be one-dimensional, since Bioware has some pretty beast writers. Just, sometimes they write annoying characters (see: Alistair).

I thought I'd hate the characters of Mass Effect 2, but they turned out tolerable, for the most part.

I'll reserve judgement until the game is released. Until then, all we have are our imaginations.

When in doubt, trust Bioware, they know what they're doing.

If your brother and sister tag along I wonder if this is going to be opportunity for a game to incorporate wincest or would that be to risque?

The lead writer said he wasn't interested.

I think they meant to write him like that. A kinds of young and moralistic chap with a wierd sense of Humor. I like it though.
Also, if Varric is anything like Oghren I will pledge my first three children to Bioware. He was the best character in the game(Comic relief and all around awesome wise, Morrigan had the best side plot, and Lelianan had the best Character growth). Although the Morigan-Sten in party banter was amusing.

They did mean to, sans the disliking him part, I'm sure. And if Varric is anything like Oghren, then I'm right there with you. But he won't be.

I think it is a little early to be making judgments I am just excited to have a family member in a video game who is not in the beginning only or not at all then either dead or left behind in the village while I adventure.

Let's see...

Varric looks cool, Fenric looks cool, Isabela already is cool. That's 3 out of 5 revealed so far (according to the DA wiki) [http://dragonage.wikia.com/wiki/Portal:Dragon_Age_2]. Aveline looks boring, not much info about Bethany so I can't comment there. However, I'm guessing her character will depend on the player and his choices.

So far, nothing bad about the list. I hate it when writers try to make characters artificially interesting by going over the top. Good writing can make a simple farmboy into a rich and layered character.

Also, I hope we don't get another Sten. You know, a useless companion with 5 lines of dialogue, low interaction, no personality and a retarded looking face. Only thing worse than Sten was Oghren.

Isabela showed up in the game for like 5 mins, just long enough to watch her kick 3 guys ass, teach you a kick ass skill, and offer you a 3some and you hate her? I'm hoping theirs 3 more ppl that kick ass to join the team.
If you're really daring you can even have a foursome with Isabela. Great for some fun dialog between all the characters involved.

Maybe now you'll get to have a fivesome. "Everyone into the pile"
I like how you think good sir. Anyways haven't seen any info on the companions, so I have no problem.

...how can you complain about something you haven't tried? We know little of the evolution of character, their interaction, feats/spells they'll be able to destroy pests with, and how well they and Hawke will make the beast-with-at-least-two-backs.

Though, judging by the happily sullied bed with Isabella in the last game where Oghren succinctly passed out...I look forward to seeing how well she plays with the dude who summons ghastly demon-like arms apparently at will. Could make for some interestingly rough funtime...

Nothing is confirmed so this thread loses it's value really really fast. I don't think BioWare will suddenly offer us bland/generic characters when DA:O offered so many diverse and unique characters.

Remember the credo: Have faith in BioWare, for they haven't screwed us over yet.
*nods* That credo, and the Blizzard companion, are carved into the foundation of Gaming. To deny them is tap-dance on quicksand.

Lol, it's her personality I find abrasive. I don't like hookers, no matter how much ass they kick.

EDIT: Or rather, she just doesn't kick enough ass for me to overlook the hooker part.
She wasn't a hooker, she was a promiscuous ship captain that could fight.
Yes, but "hooker" is faster to say. Also, more polite than what I really think about her. :p
Then it's obvious you really didn't pay attention to the character or her background, or you would realize calling her a "hooker" is plain ignorant of the material, as a few posters have already corrected you on well enough.
You're right, it is ignorant: hookers ask for money. Isabela doesn't.

And I payed plenty of attention to her background. I know she was married to a man she only kind of liked. I know that when he died, she inherited his ship. I know she and Zevran have some history, and I know that she knows you for all of ten minutes before offering to have a threesome, which in my book is pretty damn slutty. So, when I say "hooker" I mean "disgusting ho-bag who I wouldn't touch with a ten-foot pole, much less go anywhere near".

EDIT: Sorry for the rant, I just really, really don't like Isabela. I had to talk to her in the game to get the duelist spec, and she just really rubs me the wrong way.
Ignoring your prejudices, do you have to like a character for them to be a good character? Because here's the thing: there's lots of people in the world who enjoy casual sex. There maybe even be some *gasp* in this very thread. The cast of characters in a video game should be just as varied as people are in life. It keeps things interesting, giving you a reason to get to know them all.

I'll wait until more info is given. Don't have much to go on right now.

I'm just confused a bit because apparently Qunari have horns now. In the first game all the Qunari you encounter don't have horns. Maybe its they're leaders that have horns?

Too early to say, but so far I am not intrigued by what I have seen. But then I remember I felt the same way with DA Origin's characters; With the exception of Morrigan and Shale, the Dragon Age companions were uninteresting at a glance, but after playing alongside them for a time you begin to appreciate them more and more.

Dragon age companions are different than Mass Effect or KotoR companions; They're less colourful, but have more depth.
Also what he said.
They redesigned all the non-human races, although the qunari are obviously the most dramatically altered. The idea being that most qunari have horns, but some are born without them (like Sten). The horn-less ones usually end up being sent out to be like emissaries or whatever, since they look a bit more human than the ones with gigantic horns on their heads. Watch the destiny trailer: the guy Hawke is fighting is a qunari.

Here's the article: http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2010/07/28/a-look-at-the-qunari-evolved.aspx
Ah, I see now. Thanks.

Although its still feels kind of strange. Since Sten and all the Qunari mercenaries you encounter in DA:O have no horns. Just will take some getting used to I guess.

This is true, and that's fine if other people like her or whatever. But I don't, which was why she was listed as one of the reasons I'm so far disappointed.

However, I acknowledge the fact that she's probably in this game because people liked her in the first one. That being said, I will never have her in my party.

They explain that, too, though maybe not in that article? The Tal'Vashoth(those mercenaries) tend to remove their horns when they defect.
