Thanks to my parents, I have discovered R.E.M. Of course, I've heard their big hits, but I never listened to thier earlier work like Murmur until recently.

Without a doubt, my favorite song by them:

It's a shame they split...

Recently bought The Local Fuzz by the Atomic Bitchwax and fell in love with it the second the first song started to play. Then I looked at the back of the cover and realized there´s only the one song. "50 riffs in 40 minutes".

These guys blew my mind. Listened to one single song, immediately bought both their albums, and they are two of my favorites. Probably both in my top 10. Hands down the best metal band of the last few years.
You realize that kvelertak and baroness exist right? Oh and dont forget High on Fire.

I listened to that clip. Reminds me of a poppier Cradle of Filth
Sorry, I forgot admitting you like symphonic black metal is uncool nowadays. Wont score you any elitist-pain-in-the-ass points.
Well you did say best metal band of the last few years. HANDS DOWN. Not best melodic pop metal band of the last few years. Hey Im not judging, i used to like Camelot and Bodom when I was in high school
Yep, and you grew out of it.

One day, if you try hard enough, you may grow out of that irritating elitist phase you are going through right now too.
You did say BEST METAL BAND HANDS DOWN, those are fightin words
Look dude, I am not going to sit here and argue with someone who is going to dislike something solely because OMG ITS SYMPHONIC.

The metal scene, from the most commercial magazine to the smallest underground website agrees Carach Angren is an amazing band. Thats all there is to say really.
I like Bodom, High on Fire, Baroness, AND other stuff. :/ The synth stuff sounds pretty cool with metal.

As soon as I heard Five Finger Death Punch, I loved their music, even if I did hear their stuff after they released their second album. Pretty sure I bought their newest one the day it came out, then went back and got their first.

Barring what I posted in a rather similar thread recently; not exactly a recent discovery, but I've really been getting into the more recent works of Killing Joke lately:

Arkona. Saw them live at Paganfest America Part 3 having done no research on them. Blew me away, I waded into the pit and didn't come out till they were done their set. :)

For me it's Mogwai. No matter what mood I'm in I listen to Mogwai and Instantly I'm at peace. I have never heard a band like them before. I've listened to this song dozens of time, but each time I hear it it's like I''m hearing it for the first time all over again.

And then there's Eyedea and Abilities "Smile" A song that talks about some horrible shit yet still manages to be uplifting in its own way

And finally Henry Rollins, I really don't know what to say besides it's Henry Rollins. I can't guarantee you'll like it, in fact I'm pretty sure you won't but you will have to admit... it's unique skip to 1:00 to see what I mean.

Nothing better than a pissed of Henry Rollins, or a not so pissed of Henry Rollins, or a Henry Rollins in a neutral mood, or happy. What can I say the guy's fucking awesome.

I recently discovered Portishead, and their first two albums are now on my "Best Albums" shortlist. They're that awesome. I'm about to buy their new album, too! It's nice to find mellow music.

Volbeat... Definately Volbeat! I love how they have mixed genre's for their songs. I just can't stop listening to them.
What she said! Also I heard a Gaslight Anthem song on the radio at work one night, and within the next week had ordered three of their CD's.

Too many to say, I must discover like 10 new bands a week that I like. Most notably though are the norwegian Kvelertak who are a strange combination of Black Metal, Rock 'n' Roll and Hardcore but it works so god damn well.

Other bands I discovered this week: Alcest (Blackened Shoegaze), Wolves in the Throne Room (Atmospheric Black), Mercury Rev (Dream Pop, Indie), Sombres Forets (Atmospheric Black), Negura Bunget (Atmospheric Black), Virgin Steele (Power Metal), Solitude Aeturnus (Power Doom), Sky Architect (Prog Rock) and Dolorian (Blackened Drone Doom).

There's a grunge band called "Senium" that just released an album produced Steve Albini.

Basically, if you're into the Nirvana-style grunge/punk sound, you'll like these guys.
