My little brother brought the plague upon us, and everybody in my house refuses to get ginger-ale, saltines, or gatorade, (sadistic bastards!) so I was wondering if anybody might have some old family remedies or something to help me get through this.

I've been able to eat plain toast and drink juice so far, but nothing seems to be settling my stomach. Not even pepto-bismal. You know you're fucked when pink stuff doesn't fix it.

I think we have some jell-o powder somewhere, should I bother making some?

For a family that gets sick so often we really have shit foods to eat =L

I find if you have a sore stomach, putting a hot water bottle against it for a while helps.
It sounds kind of silly but it makes me feel better. It has a lot to do with easing cramps but I assume it'll help for other kinds of stomach discomfort.

Maximum amount of fizzy drinks, cookies, pizza, chips, chocolate, cigarettes, alcohol (Preferably Whiskey), drugs, self harm and vomiting as possible. you will be back on your feet in no time.

That plan is so impeccable! There doesn't seem to be a single flaw.

I'll get to it immediately!

Apple juice is good for clearing crap out of your system, does the kidneys good as well.
Food wise, soup, dry toast and I normally use something like a very small chocolate bar as a test for when Im improving..

Funny you should ask. I've got one myself.
I'm thinking about grabbing myself a bottle of Underberg right now. I'll report back if it works.

I've found that when you have trouble keeping stuff down, plain crisp bread [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crisp_bread] and coke tends to work.
I don't know if it's particularly easy to get a hold of crisp bread outside of scandinavia though.

Underberg update: Damn, that's not pleasant to drink at all.

I'm afraid the only possible option would have to be a swift suicide....just to spare yourself the pain!

Fluids, bed rest and getting down what you can my friend. For me club soda seems to help but carbonation makes others vomit so it really is up to you. Get well soon!

Pretty much nothing is going to help. Keep eating toast, drink some coke, relax, whine all you want (it wont help, but it doesn't hurt) and it will pass sooner or later. It will pass by itself, but until then you're just going to have to accept that your immune system needs time to recognize the disease before it can start an immune response. Eat food that's light on the stomach, fruit or white bread is good.

A few glasses of water and then a 50%-50% boiling water whiskey with a teaspoon of sugar. Always gets me up and feeling better relatively quickly.

The trick is to eat or drink things that don't irritate the stomach. Avoid fats and dairy products and strong flavours; favour bland foods in tiny amounts that aren't a shock to a stomach that's been heaving, like cooked white rice, dry toast.

Fruits like apples and pears that are high in pectin help to soothe a stomach that's been working overtime, so applesauce is great too. If you absolutely can't keep anything down, sip water by the teaspoon to avoid dehydration. Any room-temperature, nearly flat sugary carbonated beverage can also help to restore energy; ginger ale is always the most recommended because ginger is also healing to the stomach.

Good luck, and know that a healthy person can go 24 hours with a bug like this without having any serious health effects. Hope it doesn't last that long for you!

Bug spray.

In all seriousness, whenever I get a stomach bug, I fart and it goes away. I suggest swallowing lots of air and force it to go out the other end.

Flat coke really helps. It's not a long term fix but if it lasts that long you probably have other things to worry about. As for food, you probably know better than anyone what may make you be sick so just avoid those. Eat little bits at a time if you're having trouble.

Light food, lots of fluids and sleep. Distractions too, video games, movies. Keep your mind off it.

And a pint of Guinness a day. My grandmother got super sick once and hospitalized. They made her drink the black brew cause it's good for you. Chock full of vitamins and minerals. Mmm barrel scrapings brew.

I think my mom used to give me Coca-cola that had been put out for a while so it would be stale.
Not sure if it worked or why the hell it would work, but it's all I got. :(

I hate stomach bugs, my family suggests the BRAT Diet for those: Bread Rice Applesauce and Toast. As for 'feelbetter' tonics and elixers, your family put you SOL for not buying gatoraide, but flat(no carbonation) lemon/lime soda helps, at least for me.

Also a good gadge for telling you youre going to hurl before it happens is if you cannot keep a blanket over your stomach because its unconfortable, if that happens you might wanna walk over and sit in the bathroom for a bit.

Stay away from thicker, richer, and sometimes harsher foods and drinks until you figure it's finally over.

We're trying to cure him, not get him to sh*t his pants! (sorry, had to laugh a great load over that mental image.)
