I frequently dream that I am in a lift (elevator), which always invariably starts to plummet down the shaft, only to decelerate and stop at the last possible moment. It's never the same kind of lift or a particular one; they range from grotty little car-park lifts to swanky glass ones in posh hotels.

Any ideas?
I'm not much of one for dream interpretation but supposedly this could mean a fear for a loss of security?

I repeatedly dream that my father, who passed away, is alive and having expectations of me keeping his office going and I just don't recall what I have done to do so, so I fake it best I can.

I've had a recurring dream all through my life but it happens over years so I only remember bits and pieces here and there. The main part of the dream that I remember though is always being chased by venom from spider-man (That thing always scared me when I was a kid).

Something different happened in the most recent dream however, as this time I caught it by sealing it away inside a ring. It broke out again soon and started chasing me but it was certainly a strange feeling to be able to capture it for a second.

Other than that there are a few weird dreams which involve a giant Enterprise blowing up the earth or the earth turning into goo. Now I just hope I don't that venom dream now that I've remembered it.

I have a couple favorites.

The first one that comes to mind was one where I'm this elaborate cylindrical library; The tower had many layers of books to it, and each level was adorned by marble floors and regal golden guard rails. In the center was a golden spiral staircase ascending to no one knows. I look around the library, admiring the details and ornaments of the place, when a person in a purple robe taps me on the shoulder. I turn around to see this man. He uncovers himself and pulls out a book.

"Look at this. It's written in the language of the demons."

The book opens, and the text is english written in the standard alphabet.

Another one that I love takes place in this underground society for the undead. I was an undead rogue who presumably worked for the higher classes there. I guessed this because I have lots of riches in my abode and marble columns with gold trim surround the place. I also know for a fact that this society resides underground because of the desolated landscape that looks like the aftermath of a forest fire. Adjacent to the pit leading down to the undead kingdom is a mountain that leads up to what is the living kingdom. I open the door to my home and I find a human girl in robes resting on my bed. I sit down on the equivalent of a bean-bag chair and wait politely until she wakes up. After a while a stone crumbling sound is heard from above and down comes a knight in armor. He starts pelting me with throwing knives. He then yells something like "I know you can't be killed, but at least I can destroy you." I move slowly towards him without any hinderance from the knives, but the dream then cuts to something else. I see a huge crowd of people in a stadium like place. Two mages in robes are flying around having some sort of magic duel. Spells are exchanged for a while until the crowd changes. Everyone's appearance, including their faces and bodies, are all swapped between one another. The crowd, thinking it was a spell cast by one of the mages, starts shouting at them. One of them starts retreating via flight.

The dream ends.

The night before last, I had a dream that I and a bunch of people I didn't know discovered an ancient city (that was sized more like a suburban neighborhood, but hey) that could fly... so we took it out to harass a Taco Bell that was atop a steep cliff. I also once had a dream that my best friend from high school had died and I was trying to go to the funeral, but large meteors were falling from the sky very slowly (like, five miles an hour) and keeping me from getting there.

Yeah, I have weird dreams.

I often dream I am riding a bike really fast, then I flip over unexpectedly and wake up spazzing out...

My dreams fucking suck.
I remember back when I used to ride a bike relatively often, I would try to imagine myself riding a bike, but found it impossible to do so without quickly imagining losing balance and falling off. Again, this was just me simply trying to envision it.

I know I've had some pretty intense dreams, recently, but I can't remember them. In the past I've had dreams about:

Falling onto a mile-high skate ramp with one of those different-coloured land maps of the world printed on it (the oldest dream I can remember, I was very young).

About jumping huge distances between buildings in some kind of European setting (I've never played Assassin's Creed).

Being naked in public settings.

Stealing back kids toys (my own childhood toys included)from pedophiles only to have the world flood straight afterwards. I really thought it was happening, too. So much dread.

Hiding under a table from a murderer, invading my dad's house (really creepy music in the background when I saw his head through the glass above a door).

Helping Mariah Carey (who for some reason, was also staying at my friend's house) with some boyfriend problems.

I used to lucid dream, but I've lost that ability. Anyway, as you can see I've had quite the variety.

I also recently found out exactly what a Night Terror is, and as a matter of fact I've had them throughout my life, but not regularly. By the definition I heard, they happen shortly before you get into deep sleep, you're just dozing off and then BAM! Your subconscious slaps you across the face with some disturbing imagery, frightening you awake.
Hmmm, I've had one of these before. It was just this really brief, dark scene of a claymation caterpillar with a tormented Shy Guy face. It was crawling on a branch, looking at me and saying something inaudible before a hand grabbed it and ulled it screaming from the branch, tearing its front legs off.

Jolted right awake and could not get back to sleep.

Incidentally, I also had a nightmare very recently where a creature much like your avatar sliced someone in half and then chased me down a hallway.

Also, you ever tried taking melatonin before bed? It can give you some weird dreams.

Most of my dreams are pretty horrible. I'm normally dying or something else pretty bad is happening to me. I rare wake myself up because of them, but when I do I don't get back to bed for a while.

I do remember one where I was working a gig at a theatre and the actors had to work with live fish for the production. Myself and a few other people were talking about how to make sure that the fish weren't disrupting the acting and production. It was all very strange but I remember everyone in my dream that was involved were all talking about it in all seriousness. I was even talking about tying them to sticks to keep them from flopping around too much.

Now that I think about it, maybe I missed my calling as a fish wrangler.

Well, I removed the part you quoted from my first post since it's not accurate to what the true definition of a night terror is, which is a lot more extreme.

If Headsprouter (the thing in my avatar) made his way into my dreams, I'd probably quite pleased. Perhaps even if he sliced someone in half and then chased me down the hallway. My dreams rarely have imagery quite as outlandish as that, though.

I remember having trouble sleeping back when I first started on the old fluoxetine, and when I would get to sleep, I'd always have a crazy dream, but I can't even slightly remember any of them.

The vast majority of my dreams are nightmares, and the rest tend to be really weird, yet also calming to the point where I feel like I'd rather stay in the dream most of the time.

My nightmares... I'd rather not talk about those right now, to be honest. Suffice to say that I have woken up screaming on many occasions.

The good dreams seem to follow a formula. I'm part of a big team of people I don't recognize but at the same time feel like I'm friends with, then we do some weird quest such as defeating a giant Donkey Kong, then things lose all reason and pattern yet I remain with my team.

In one of my more recent good dreams, I became a lesbian. Not gonna explain how that happened.

I think I had a dream about going to buy Guilty Gear Xrd last week or something. I still don't own it.

...My dreams really aren't that interesting. At least the ones that I remember.

I've definitely died in dreams before but I can't recall all of the ways I've been killed...I've fallen from great heights of course, been attacked by dogs and I even fought Omega Red. The thing is, I also have dreams wherein I go all-out Hokutou no Ken on my attackers and decimate the things trying to turn my dreams all...nightmare-like.

There is something that I can't defend against though and those are my Apocalyptic dreams. I've had dreams where bombs and missiles went off to varying degrees. The ones that really disturb me though involve cosmic events. Once I sort of...became one with (or was transported to) The Moon, which split in half, went hollow and showed me the entirety of Earth. On other occasions, alien crafts descended and just wrecked shit up. If I see lights in the sky, I get a bit worried...

For the most part though, my dream-self live a normal life. I keep going to a mall with a great used-games shop. There's a shore-front that I walk along. There's a marina and museum that I've visited and there are familiar people who I hang out with (and occasionally beat up). There's a downtown area and a nice theater too. The physics are a bit weird...but it's a nice place to live as a dream-person.

Oh man, i LOVE dreaming and my dreams.

Especially nightmares (They are great creative fuel)

I once had a dream about being recruited by the MI-13 as an replacement for my lost brother. Turns out i had the power switch into the "decaying world" - pretty much a parallel world, where everything forgotten, disbelieved and decayed "ends" up. Also evil people (Serial-Killers mostly) can switch world with a "ritual" (mostly killing) and can so pretty much teleport around. Also they would "be" themselves in the other world - monsters.

I had the power to switch without ritual, like my brother. And with the aid of a barely stable socipath (Who had a dangerous fascinating with blood and bleeding - who could dive through a freshly spilled pool of human blood into the world) i hunted the suspected killer of my brother. I met creatures like the "Soda-Monster" - which spat drinks into mugs and Lucifer, all in "The living room" - a bar, which was made out of flesh. Also some kind of undying samurai (Who was alive because he just willed himself to only die in the services of a worthy master)

Man. The whole thing was super-intense, i remembered so much about it and it was REALLY entertaining. When i woke up i couldn't get out of the bed, just thinking about it all for an hour or so.

Ended up writing an pen-and-paper game around it.

-

Also remembering a dream where i was on of the flyers of the lake. Some kind of super-free faery-like people who where gliding around and on top of an lake, hunted by the bitter old man (He could never catch us)

But i was getting slower, the old man nearly shot me once. And it was decided i was becoming to old and too slow and had to leave. That was just an melancholic dream, but still beautiful (I remember the rush of the gliding around, beeing able to do what you want and the fear of losing it and becoming old.) SYMBOLISM!!!, made by my own subconcious. Sweet.

I have a lot of REALLY great dreams, which i remember for years now and really have changed me.

Last night I dreamed that I locked the car alone in an underground car park, when all of a sudden six people appear around me and invade my personal space (obviously muggers because they had knives and one had a gun). I tried to run away but got shot.

Cool dream bro.

I don't have what people consider "normal" dreams. I could go for pure shock factor, but I think the weirdest dream brought on by having to pee went thusly.

I was backstage at a concert waiting for Tool to go on. A few people I knew were also backstage warming up. There was some commotion and it turned out that the keyboard player for Tool (I don't fucking know why they have a Keyboard player now) was going to be unable to make it, and they needed a replacement. I volunteered and got really excited. So the whole band was backstage and they were walking me through some of the songs but every time we got to a good part I'd have to go pee really bad. I'd run to the bathroom, and would proceed to (in dream time) pee for about 3 hours. I'd go back and we'd start to rehearse again, and then like clockwork, I'd have to run back to the bathroom.

Well after a few bouts of dreamlike urinary frequency, I hear the crowd roar and the band start to play onstage. I was pissed but figured it was meant to be as a guy that can't stop peeing shouldn't be able to play rock music.

I go out the the crowd and start to get into it, but as I'm rocking out I see them lower this glass tank over the band. The concert hall is similar to my high school basketball court, so bleachers on either side and the floor, and stage. As the tank is lowered down in place I notice something unsettling. Tool isn't comprised of humans. In front of our eyes they grow hooves and horns and fur everywhere and are now demon goats. They start to play Stinkfist and the tank begins filling up. The crowd little by little starts to sense something wrong and moves for the exits, but the exits have disappeared.

As the tank fills to the brim the song becomes this deafening cacophony and the glass shatters. The gym is filling up and the goats begin chanting while continuing to play. Some of us are drowning now and the others start to climb for the highest point they can reach but it's all for not. The water doesn't stop coming.

Eventually the water reaches the ceiling and we all start hugging underwater waiting to die.

As I die in the dream I awake in real life and it turns out I've pissed the bed.

I prefer the dreams I have where I'm being chased around a log cabin in an Autumn forest by a purple question mark though.

Well, I don't remember many of my dreams, but when I do, I write them down.
They are usually creative.

I wake up, I feel harsh momentum surrounding me. My eyes open with brief flickers, it seems I was
clinging to a piece of light metal as it drifted through the water. Instantly seeing the metal my eyes turned elsewhere, where I witnessed a harsh ocean. Except I could see space further ahead, it seemed that the ocean was not any ordinary shape, but it curved until the point where the other end was straight ahead of my eyes.

It was unbelievable, the colour was a light blue and very clear. Although the waves were bad, all the rest of the ocean was calm but it seemed that these waves were caused by a large array of ships. It was like it was a ship of cities, this was the point where I knew it was inspired from that anime. Soon my eyes flickered once more, I was tired and did not have the energy to flag the convoy of ships down. I begin to pass out, but I hear alarms from the ships, I smile.

My eyes suddenly shot open as I remembered what happened, a group of people that were standing above me jumped back in horror. Except one girl, which looked like the heroine from said anime ... "does that make me the hero?" was the only though in my head at the time. Soon time skipped forward after they had introduced me to most of the fleet and gave me a empty space on the deck of a ship to make my own house. Giving a thumbs up it actually took me a short while or half a day to build a small shack.

Another time skip happened and soon I was running around the ship parkouring over every little thing, since it was practically a metal playground with all the ships together forming a city. It had seemed that I joined some kind of engineer service of the ship and I was jumping to places to get to certain valves or things that needed a fix. After a day of exhausting running, it was night. That same girl took me to a high point of the ship city. There were glowing whales under the water, next thing I remember is holding the girl's hand and smiling just like her.

Then I woke up.

I have another, but it is something I don't remember now, unlike the first dream.

This one was nice dream. It was based in the Pokemon Universe I think and I was at a resort for some reason.
I was a boy named "Jin" I think. He had a childhood friend called Iori, a girl of course.

They were around the age of 14 or 15. Two good close friends.
After playing around for a while they relaxed by the edge of the pool talking about the future.
"I WANT TO BE A POKEMON MASTER!" They both said, funny, it didn't feel obvious like in the games.

Though they talked about what happens when you become a master. What happens if he wins or she wins.
Iori being the loud mouth Tomboy she announced that if she wins that she can do anything to Jin and visa-versa.
Not bad, I could already see the romantic tone.

That was the end, but it was something nice to see.

... as for the nightmares.
They are pretty violent.
I remember one where I was in a city riot, knocked out, and woke up on a operation table.
The people who got me wanted my organs.

But as a desperate person.
I somehow kicked a scalpel into one person's eyes, got out, and killed the rest in gruesome ways.
It was really scary ... but somewhat comforting.

my dreams are pretty mundane even when I remember them, but I do remember once I dreamed that I was watching Game of Thrones and Jon Snow decided to assassinate Grand Meister Pycelle by sending him a bottle of Ribena with a hidden explosive in it...that was kinda weird,

HAH. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who had GoT dreams.

I like having dreams about Tyrion Lannister teaching me to fight a sorceress using a spear made from the leg bones of Oberyn Martell, after which he jumps on the back of Hodor and blasts off into outer space.

Last night I dreamt i was in a plane crash, and that seriously was not pleasant at all.

I've been on short and long haul flights and am familiar with the feelings of taking off, landing and also when a plane hits turbulence or drops down suddenly when it hits an air pocket. I also know that statistically a plane is most likely to crash when taking off....apparently. This fact was going through my head just as the plane in my dreams was leaving the runway, and so of course it drops out of the sky suddenly and my stupid brain re-creates the horrible feeling of when a plane is suddenly falling in altitude. Quite frightening and it felt very real, but fortunately I don't usually have bad dreams.
