I rather disliked Dark Messiah. It was filled with more bugs than a guest room in the Russian embassy. The voice acting and dialogue were horrible, the linear gameplay as well as its tie with leveling was broken. The graphics weren't bad and the immersion was pretty good except when it bugged out. It was a game I really wanted to like but couldn't.

Most of the bugs have been fixed.

Also, why is a game being linear such a bad thing? It assists the storytelling, and with how the game's structured, non linearity would just hurt the game in my eyes. Not every game has to be some Oblivion of GTA knockoff...

I disagree, I bought it on the 360 cause I played it on the PC ages ago, worked completely fine.
Only thing different is that you have to be a certain "class", warrior, rogue mage etc.

OT: I love the game, one of my favourites for some reason.

Kicking in Dark Messiah is hilariously overpowered. I wouldn't be surprised if you could beat the entire game by doing nothing but kicking. Honestly, I would just rename the game "Kicking: The Game". It's still fun though... it's got quite good first person combat... perhaps some of the best out there in fantasy games. It without a doubt puts Oblivion to shame in terms of combat (not that is an accomplishment). Come to think of it, it probably beats Oblivion in everything but being open world. Again, it's not like that is am accomplishment.

I should have been more specific when commenting on its linearity. The reason why I didn't like its linearity is because you gained experience from doing quests as you progress through the story. The problem is that you can skip many "side quests" and hence be missing out on some crucial experience points which you can't go back and get. The linearity felt very constraining. I don't mind if the game is linear in a role-playing game, as long as it gives the impression that you can make choices. Dark Messiah didn't really do that for me.

Also, I would have liked being able to trade while in town. Otherwise there isn't much point of having an inventory capable of holding a bunch of gear if there isn't any point of using or selling the equipment.

Like this. It is SHITE on the 360. They implemented a linear, class-based levelling system like a JRPG and changed some of the maps for... no to little reason, actually.

The PC version had a levelling system I loved. Getting exp from completeing objectives and a few little side-quests was excellent, even if some of the gameplay wasn't. The kicking people was hilarious, though.

It was fun, and I want to replay it. I played it on the 360, though I have a copy of it on PC. It was a sort of mindless fun, but I don't really think it had much else going for it.

I was searching for any threads relating to the game when I found this thread.
I bought the game last week and got a chance to play it on Sunday.
It took me almost 8 hours to finish which isn't bad at all considering thats longer than most modern games. I actually really enjoyed the story and wish I'd bought it earlier (I actually bought it on the UK day of release but it wouldn't run on my pc so the shop gave me a refund)
It was also one of the only games I've played that managed to have a companion that wasn't annoying, I liked Leanna and was pleased the game didn't make her sluty like the succubus woman.

Anyway great game, more people really need to play it.

I had a lot of fun playing Dark Boot of Might and Kicking. Just get all the energy buffs in the game (there's three Endurance upgrades and three strength upgrades in the skill tree, iirc) and you can one-kick all of the mooks to death.

It was quite funny later in the game when I was kicking Death Knights down stone staircases, they may be formidable in melee, but they can't fight against the boot. Oddly I never really used the boot much until right at the end but that was mostly to prevent myself being swarmed by Arantir's soldiers.
