It [b/]was[/b] just about the only game I was looking forward to this year after Red Dead Redemption. Should have seen Valve time coming.

All the gameplay videos make me very excited (FYI all those videos you linked were in the E3 footage, just this stuff is slightly better quality). The only thing I'm a little worried about so far is Wheaty. Ok, your pretty funny and you remind me a little bit of Holly from Red Dwarf, that's cool. But the moment you start speaking over GLaDOS's first new lines your dead to me.

Looking forward to playing it, won't be a game on the list of major release date purchases but it will be one I get, Half Life 2: Episode 3 on the other hand...

I'm not for the same reason I wasn't excited by Bioshock 2. Some games really shouldn't have sequals and Portal was one of them.

NO! Greatest reason is that valve sold out - i had greatest respect for that company, because PC gaming experience came first for them, now they are putting portal 2 on PS3 under same piority as PC, and i, do not want that, while i have great confidence in valve... Actually i dont anymore... Anyone who obandones their principloes like that deserves a new page, and i dont give a good start on a new page to any one, especially when games industry + consoles are concerned.
Right, because they're not supporting us properly at all with the endless improvement of Steam and whatnot.

All this means is that more people will be able to experience and discuss the game; Valve never disappoint, and they wouldn't put it on the PS3 if it felt like other versions would suffer.

I am, but I'm not expecting great things.
If I find out it's longer than the first one, then I'm just flat out looking forward to it.
It is.

Valve have said the single player is 3 times longer than Portal 1. That's roughly 9 hours I'd say.

That may not seem like much, but that's without taking into consideration that there are two campaigns; one for single player, and one for multiplayer. So potentially we could be looking at 18+ hours, which is pretty meaty for a FPS without competitive multiplayer. A couple of employes also said they were looking at way's to extend the multiplayers replayability in passing. If it's anything as game changing as Left 4 Dead's AI director...*happy face*. That's not even taking into account Advance and challenge test chambers, for possibly both single and multiplayer. So how many hours are we talking here? You got a sheet of paper big enough?

Yes, I'm following this game like a dog follows the scent of sausages.

It's set hundreds of years after the first one.

So maybe it will give us an idea of whether the Combine on the surface have gone yet. Since it's set in the same universe.

I don't think we're going to see that outside world, or at least nothing that will give anything as to the Half Life games.

Part of the reason Valve decided to set this game hundreds of years later (apart from allowing for more variation between test chambers) is because they wanted to disconnect it for the Half Life story. It's still the same world (and I imagine GLaDOS still has one or two things to say about Black Mesa) it's just not the same story, and one probably won't effect the other.

No it is just if you are releasing for PC purely from you marketing strategy - you cna release game when it is ready, polished and done in every aspect - signing to have concole same priority as PC means you will be preasured to keep up to the dates THEY demand - which in case of making moeny is going to be sooner rather then later, and there are countless examples of a good game being endorced by some one other then developers going horribly wrong becasue people who endorce it preassure developers to keep the dead line (best level in KoOR was not in game becasue lucas wanted to get game done by christmans)...

So by going to PS3 you first of al limiting capabilities of the game, you are also limiting freedom you have, you cannt take as long on aspects you wish to put in...

Well we don't know when it's set seeing as portals can screw with time like it did to freeman.
So maybe the facility has aged in zen or somewhere and then portal will meet up with HL.
just a thought...

I have to disagree. Bioshock 2 simply erred on the side of being too much like the first game. Portal 2 is altering the experience of the first game by adding more characters (the Personality Spheres like Wheatley), new game play elements (tunnels, springboards and containers of sludge that affect surfaces) and breaking the test chambers out of their white faux sterility. I've yet to see any indication that this isn't everything a game sequel should be.

Alright, first thing's first: grammar please.

In response to that, you seem to be under the impression that Sony somehow have control over the way Valve now handles Portal 2. They don't.

Oh, and obviously the PC version will look better, so you have no reason to worry.

Ehh, not really excited. I'll get it, but there are a few other games that I'm more excited about (Rage mostly). Kinda ironic since I have my Portal shirt on right now though. >_>

I felt the original portal was enough. It was the perfect length and had just the right amount of humor and plot to keep it going without becoming corny. Im sure portal 2 will be good because valve dosent really make bad games....but portal was the last game that needed a sequel.

On another note valve should just make episode 3 already. I don't even like half life to much but keep people waiting this long is ridiculous.
