I do, I love animals, sometimes more than people. My cat is a pretty bad cat but I keep him because I love him. He's got a lot better than before, he doesn't bite or scratch as much but he takes swipes at you and doesn't like being touched.
Yesterday actually, there was a (I'm going to assume) stray cat on my wall when it was raining so I got him/her inside, fed them and dried him/her off with a towel. s/he's gone now because s/he was hissing and spitting at my cat. I do it with all stray animals near me and sometimes I'll clean them down a little bit if they look a tad mucky.

Yeah, I love my dog very much right now, but there's a story I gotta tell you:

Growing up I was quite sheltered, due to my disability; kids were hesitant to approach me because of it and were probably worried they'd hurt me or something. So I grew up simply around my brothers and parents, not having too much human contact, as I'd mainly just quietly watching things.

Whenn I was about 2 or 3, we had a family friend come around with his dog Duke. Duke was a big Mastiff, big, silly, fun, playful thing. I remember when I first saw him he came up to me and started sniffing me and pushing me roughly, and I would just giggle. Whenever Duke came around I would run outside (in my walking frame and play with him for as much as I could, then when I got tired he'd let me lay back against him. He was my first friend, my first real friend. He never saw the disability, he just saw me as a person, someone to play with.

Anyways, few years later we had to move away so I didn't get to see him, and then a few years after that I found out his owner had to send him up to Queensland to a farmer who herded Water Buffalo or something. I hadn't forgotten about him, how could I? He'd had such a huge impact on my life.

Anyways...one day our friend had called, and we got talking. Asked him if he'd heard anything about Duke, and he said he had to be put down. One day when he was herding the animals, one got edgy and kicked out, getting Duke in the head. They...couldn't do anything to save him. When I heard, I didn't really react, simply saying a "Well...That's horrible"...but I went numb. I didn't cry over him...I never did until recently when I was going through some old photos, and I found a picture of me smiling and laying against Duke.
Needless to say I bawled; I'd nearly forgotten about him, I felt terrible, I missed him so much...
I still do...I wish he was here now...

I have a cat called Amy that just sits with me and gazes at me adoringly, when I go to sleep she sleeps next to me and when I cuddle her she cuddles me back. If I am upset she comes straight away and meows and taps me on the leg.

She is 14 now so she is getting on, I think I will be unconsolable when she dies. :< But happily she is still around to make me smile and lift me up when I am sad.

When we first got our dog I hated it, a little white fluffy thing (quiet though thank god).
I would always ignore it and my sisters would spoil it. But I had to look after her when my parents went away one year, and I was reluctant at first. However now days I love her. She does everything I say instantly. My sisters can be playing with her and I can just call her name a click and she will come running over as fast as her little legs can carry her. No idea why she obeys me, considering I ignored her for like the first 6 months of her life.

I also like turtles!

Same thing happened to me when I was talking to my friend. She started talking about her pets.

Yes. We have a dog right now that I love to pieces. She's normally very mellow, and I can scoop her up and cuddle her just about any time I want to.

And I would horribly disfigure someone if they tried messing with my dog. She is awesome.

Yes, my animals mean everything to me, I love them dearly. Sadly I had to have one of my cats put down earlier this year, She was with me since I was 6 and she had been with me through primary school, secondary school, college and the first two years of university. I still miss her. I have two cats and two dogs and I love them very much, they are all awesome pets!

I rescued a kitten my friend found abandoned on the highway. I got to keep him for about a year and a half before I signed a lease with someone that had an aggressive dog (unbeknownst to me). Long story short, I had to re-home him for his own health. I'm still kind of bummed about it because he got me through a difficult time in my life.

Yes i do. My little chihuahua. He sleeps next to my in a bed on the floor next to me. I can go to sleep without him there(he protects me from buglers :p) And ever sense i saw "jurassic bark" for the first time i hold him tightly when i can. I talk to him about my problems and not judge me. Saddest thing is we dont even know how old he is. He could die at any moment.
So yes. I have a deep love for my puppy.

Absolutely. Sadly, I lost my 15yr dog about a week ago and it still stings. They are less pets and more of an extension to my family, so it feels like I've lost a member of my family right now. I still have my cat and he comforts me by sleeping in my lap and rolling around for hours. I adore the little furball.

Oh cats. Simultaneously evil and good in a cute package :D

Too bad I can't have any for pets as my Dad is very, very allergic. It will take me settling down on my own plus having enough time/money to care for one. I'm a dog person but I think a dog will have to wait until much later down the line.

Cute cat :3

Aww, you can see how much she loves you in that picture! She's adorable.

OP: Yes, I've loved lots of animals and still do. Besides their unquestioning love and loyalty (even cats!) and their undeniable adorableness, I love them because their motives are pure and I understand them. Having a creature that cannot speak to me or understand my words love and trust me is very potent.

If someone attempted to injure my itty bitty kitty bucket bus I would hang them from the ceiling and do things so unspeakable that the director of the centipede movies would make a documentary about it.

My family always had animals, and when they got old and passed away, it was always a sad occasion. Up to a certain age, "my" pets were still really family pets. I fed them and cared for them, but they weren't just mine, if that makes sense. I still miss them and think about them, and was really torn up when they passed. Sometimes I have dreams where they come to visit me, usually when I'm having a rough time and they always cheer me up.

I rescued an abused Akita/Shepherd mix puppy back in '06, and fell in love instantly. She's so smart and has such a strong personality that everyone who meets her just wants to fawn all over her. She was the first animal that was really just mine. I paid all the vet bills and made sure she had everything she needed as a puppy growing up. I also replaced the entire bathroom she destroyed before I got the idea to crate train her. How a dog can chew through two walls, a floor, and break a toilet in the course of one afternoon, I will never know.

One day she was walking with me early in the morning, and there was a rattlesnake on the path. I was so scared that she was going to try to protect me from it and get bit that I put myself in danger to make sure she didn't get hurt. It turned out okay, thanks in part to thick boots the snake couldn't actually bite through despite striking at, but it was really the first indication of how much I cared about her.

She's turning six this december, which is roughly half of her life expectancy, depending on nutrition and other factors. I find myself worrying about who would take care of her if anything happened to me almost as much as I worry about how I'm going to deal with being without her someday. I have friends who have told me that when I describe how I feel, it is pretty much the way they feel about their KIDS. So yeah, I have a deep love for my dog.

She knows when I'm upset and tries to cheer me up, sometimes by playing jokes on my cats (she has a wicked sense of humor, but the cats still love her). She sleeps on an over sized ottoman next to my bed, but doesn't stay there long since I usually wake up with her laying on my legs or sleeping scrunched up behind me. I talk to her like a person, and she seems to understand, even if she is attention deficit disorder personified in canine form. She also gets final say on the girls I've been involved with. If they can't along with her (and really, it takes a certain type of person NOT to get along with my dog), I know it is not going to last long.

Yes indeed I have. I lost my last dog Kez about 4 years ago now and I still miss her terribly. As well as our older dog Buster. He was there when I was born. He wasn't my dog, I was his baby. It still feels weird not having a dog around the house. We've only got one lovebird now as the other died a little while ago. I don't feel much of a connection with them as they aren't mine and they dislike humans intently.

When I get my own house I'm going to surround myself with dogs. I love them and want another one so badly right now.

My kitten is literally my baby. I'm always worrying about him and making sure that he's ok and the second he starts crying I panic and run to make sure everything's ok. My friend has joked about selling him to a Japanese restaurant for them to cook him and I've almost punched him just for joking about it. Anyone who would actually hurt him will die a very slow and very painful death.

Oh yes. I love my Pandora. She's half golden lab, half golden retriever and 100% the sweetest dog I've ever had. I got her(ironically enough) free in the local Walmart parking lot, but she's a better dog than any of the ones I've spent good money on. I got her weeks before my back surgery and she was with me the whole time I was recovering(about two months stuck laying around playing xbox). It's going to be a terrible day when she dies. I love that dog.
