It's not the setting as i've said for a long time. It's just the execution. Apoc themes still have plenty to give people just need to abuse it a bit more and mold their aesthetics a bit better.

I'm tired of it too... I'm sick of always solving everyones problems. Games seem to of become a glorified version of "The Babysitter". So instead of walking into a doomed world how about a spin on it? I want to play a game where the world is fine till I decide one day "fuck the world" and work my way to world domination leading a fiery path of apocalyptic destruction in my wake.

Funny, I was sick of post apocalyptic thing before they even began to be so frequent. In 2008 Fallout 3 came out and I could hardly get through first hour thanks to the settings. Gow/Resistance/Stalker? Hell no! Zombie games? Keep it to yourself! I just kept playing Mirrors Edge again and again in nice, polished, clean city where I felt I belong.

AMEN OP!
Even if you are one of those people who didn't like those examples, then tell me where are those games current-gen equivalents? They don't exist, because everything that has any popularity is a FPS.

Literally, the last non-steam sale game I've bought was Skyrim. Before that it was Portal 2.
Basically I don't buy buy games anymore because none of them catch my interest. The only one I'm even remotely looking forward to is the next Bioshock game and even then it's sort of the idle "oh, that looks kinda cool" type excitement, rather than that "OMG I HAVE TO BUY THIS" type excitement (which I haven't felt in a really long time).

So yes, I agree with you OP. Not so much post-apocalyptic games specifically so much as shitty brown gritty shooters and sequels in general.

I, personally, like the post apocalyptic setting... Having said that, i AM getting sick of the stylistic form it generally takes place. That Fallout 3/Rage/kinda dusty brownish whatchamacallit style. I'd like to see more settings that looked different. For example i loved the way they portrayed it in Enslaved: More green and vibrant and plants everywhere.

Legend of Grimrock, TES V: Skyrim, Rayman Origins, Pokemon Conquest / Black 2 / White 2, Dark Souls, Witcher 2, Orcs Must Die 2 (think of it because I just now preordered it), Paper Mario Sticker Star, Diablo 3, Mass Effect 3.

Games I can think of out of the blue when I'm thinking about the "not postapocalyptic setting" and the criteria that it is not allowed to be a FPS. Some of them may not fall into your definition of popular or even definition of "hardcore" (an often used excuse to dismiss examples when arguments fail) but all of them are of mid up to good quality (except the one that have yet to be released where I can't judge).

If you can't think of any games that fall not into the "postapocalyptic FPS" trope than you do your best to ignore literally everything else that the market has to offer.

I just looked at the new release section on Steam

1 out of 21 games on the new release this week are post apocalyptic. about 4% of the games released recently are post apoc.

If you keep buying those, thats on you, its not an overused genre
May I add your quote to support my point?
And yet not one of those even plays remotely similar to Jak and Daxter (ok, maybe Rayman. That's 1 game). Look, I love a lot of those games you posted, and I'm not stupid enough to think that every single, 100% of all games released at FPS or Post Apocalyptic, but half of those games you listed are either indie games or just merely an exception to the rule. Did you miss this year's E3 or something?

I'm not sick of it. I like exploring abandoned houses or even cities and imagining how the people used to live. It gives me a tingling feeling in my stomach.

Not really, I greatly enjoy that kind of setting. I love exploring abandoned houses and thinking about how the people that lived there. Though sometimes it makes me sad, like in Fallout 3 when you see the bones of the people who died in their homes. I love exploring ruins and things. They aren't that common though.

There's always cookie cutter fantasy for the TS.
There should be more than enough of that to take his mind off post-apocaliptica.

The thing is that everything is being milked alot.

If you want more colorful, happy games ala rayman, you don't have to far. Mario is still alive and kicking and there's indie games like TokiTori.
Just don't expect such games to be among the big triple-A releases. The cartoonish style doesn't require a of tens of million dollars budget.
