I really liked the Iceland thing. It's great fun! Sure, it's ridiculous, but like the old Adam West Batman show, it's meant to be, and people make a mistake if they assume anything else.
I hope we get more stuff like that, I'm finding the knock-ff versions of acts I already hate/find tedious to be grating.

Not sure if you're talking about Batman or the Icelandic song, but I agree regardless.

I agree to both really, but I was talking of Eurovision. AMBIGUITY!!!!

Also, Austria wasn't bad in all fairness. If you have to rip something something in the past two year's charts, you could pick worse than Adele.

Well, except that Conchita wasn't horrible and irritating and also not good.

Like I said, as long as it isn't irritating. Though I am painting British Napoleonic Infantry while watching this. The imperialist in me has to be saciated somehow.

I've slowly lost interest over the years. The music rarely falls under my personal tastes, either being too pop or WAY out there. The actual contest doesn't grab me either, because we (Finland) have only won once with Lordi, whom some of you already mentioned. Though I did love that year, since nobody expected them to win. One magazine interview had a man saying "if Europe bows to this, I promise to eat a hat full of shit". Then of course afterwards the entire nation went crazy about them and they got their names plastered on every product imaginable.

Is it me or does the Swiss entry sound like some heard the soundtrack to Wild Arms and thought "How can we make this into a rubbish song for Eurovision"?

Best eurovision moment so far is when they cut to Graham Norton in the broadcast booth while he was slagging off the presenters. That and Poland's use of milk churns.

Haha, the Graham Norton part was hilarious XD

In this interlude, my predictions for top five are:

1) Sweden
2) Iceland
3) United Kingdom
4) Austria
5) Denmark

And the worst three:

24) Italy
25) Belarus
26) The Netherlands

That said, I wouldn't mind one bit if the UK won :p

Eh, I'm just happy that Jessica Mauboy is representing Australia, even if she's not competing.
Does australia compete in EUROvision. I dont know if you meant austria or if eurovision is actually a load of different countries
Australia doesn't compete, but Eurovision is popular there (more than anywhere else outside nations competing, I think), so some Australians turn up, and for the first time one will be singing. Australia won't compete unless it annexes part of Europe, I guess.
They would be allowed to compete if they joined the European Broadcasting Union (basically a collective of the national broadcasters of most European countires, such as he BBC and Ireland's RTE and so on), which doesn't actually limit membership to European countries - that's how the likes of Azerbaijan, Israel and Morocco can compete each year. That being said, they're at least relatively near Europe, whereas Australia's a bit far...

Yeah, I am. My family always hold a minor event for Eurovision and it's fun to watch the gimmick, silly acts, and the occasional actual good song. I'm also interested to see if any of the Russia-Ukraine conflict spills in this year, I predict that the Russians will be booed at some point, they will get some votes from Ukraine due to Russian speakers living there but very few Russian votes will go to Ukraine. I predict Russia will take a hit votes-wise overall due to their recent actions, like when the UK got nil points in 2003 partly because of certain invasion of Iraq taking place at the time...

As for the UK's prospects this time, I like our song and that we've got a young aspiring artist rather than has-beens like the last two entries, I think we've got a good chance of scoring high this year if we're lucky. Out of the other countries I like Iceland's entry, hopefully they'll get far too.
We could resurrect the dead members of the Beatles, have them reform and have them as our entry and the UK still would not win but I do like your optimism, we seem to be a little low on that at the moment.

OT:
My Mum and my Sisters always used to make my whole family watch it and I thought that once I had moved out I would never have to watch it ever again. I don't like it, my roommate dosen't like it and my girlfriend dosen't like it. Unfortunately I am being forced to watch it as I type this because my Sister and her girlfriend are staying at my place for a few days, we only have the one TV and I cannot go and play any games on my PC because I have a broken leg and my cast will not let my sit at my desk.

And on top of all that, I cannot drink because of the pain killers.

If their is a God he is not a kind God.

Was there ever any real doubt that Eurovision would be won by an Austrian drag act doing a Shirley Bassey style Bond theme song.

I remember the year when finnish metal band 'lordi' won

You slippery ninja you.

Nah not looking forward to it, won't watch, nothing to appeal to me unless random swedish death metal band, or Finland pulls another weird stunt and sticks Turisas on stage or something doing their Rasputin cover.

In which case they should win.

Everything.

Forever.

It wasn't outrage against them as individuals though, or even against their song - it was outrage against them as representatives of Russia and, by extension, the Russian government. Kind of a protest, I guess. Eurovision's so political, nothing's meant personally against the performers themselves. In fact, I'm pretty sure the girls were prepared for a negative reaction what with the current political climate and all.

Personally, I was glad to see Russia getting that reaction, especially considering the pandering they usually get in the voting.

REALLY glad Conchita won though. I don't think I've been genuinely pleased about a Eurovision winner since Lordi :D

Oh, and I'm also pleased to report that my gloomy outlook on the UK's chances was justified once again. Honestly, I'm surprised we bother any more.

Finished watching it, sweet that Austria won, especially since some places wanted Austria out of the contest (according to my sister anyway)
I have to question whether Austria would have won if the song had been performed by someone else. The song itself was nothing much out of the ordinary, after all. As a social and political statement, I can agree that it is sweet that Austria won. But I do believe the way the votes keep landing goes against the idea of a song contest.

Poland was robbed! =P

Laughed at boos for Russia (although I did feel a little sorry for the two performers, their actual song wasn't bad)

Still miss Terry Wogan not commentating but this was quite fun to sit down and watch.

Also France sucked.
