I think that I have only once posted in a thread with more than 100 responses.
I take a lot of time composing my posts, by the time I have finished this one it will probably have taken me at least ten minutes. If you have something to say, you might as well present it as well as you can, you know?
So when I see a thread that catches my eye, and turns out to have a great many responses, I tend to ignore them. It just feels like the effort would go to waste. Personally, if I was posting in a thread with more than, say, 70 responses, I probably wouldn't read all 5 or 6 pages worth of responses prior to my own, lest the discussion was particularly enthralling.
Most of what you read will be a contrived wad of textual vomitings, and not even worth reading anyway. And if I did post late in a thread, I'd make certain to quote, as added insurance of getting my own post read.

So what do other Escapists do? Do you contribute to huge threads? If so, do you commit to reading every entry?
I think you have threadhugephobia.
But anyways, I normally try to contribute to everything actually, no matter if it's short or big.

It dissapoints me to not feel compelled to post in a large discussion. Perhaps if people were to take the time and post something worthwhile, it would be a little easier.

Yes, I actually am a little bothered by and somewhat paranoid of large threards. Especially if the topic is controversial or something that is major source of tension in the gamer community (graphics vs gameplay value ect).

People strangly leave me alone when I comment on hot buttons topics; I've only gotten into one skirmish (and it was over me simply misreading the topic due to my worsening eyesight -_-)that British twit can go get mugged in downtown Manchester for all I care.

I'm not sure if paranoid is the best choice of words, but i know what you mean, it seems pointless to comment in a thread if no one will read it due to its size.

I usually just quote someone on the first page, respond, then respond to the OP and hope an interesting conversation comes out of it.

Wow, overthinking it much?

Why don't you just make an equation to show how long you should work on a post depending on how long the topic is? Just to be sure you don't waste a single letter of a comment. You really have to take things like the internet seriously.

Also, I think it would be really funny if this topic got huge.

I post in threads that I can contribute positively to, regardless of how many people have posted before me. However, I prefer to be either among the first 10 or so responses or the last post of a page (i.e. post number divisible by 35). Large or huge threads don't deter me.

I think by that time there usually isn?t anything left to be said, so the most you can do is sum a bunch of things other people have said. I?ve done it on occasion but it kind of depends on what forum I?m on and whether I feel inclined to do it at the time. Otherwise I see if anyone has anything I want to reply to on the last few pages.

I sometimes do follow threads though; I have some forums I lurk on just to find interesting things to read. They sometimes even get pretty long but they don?t update to quickly especial after a few days have passed and you only have a few dedicated people remaining.

I usually read at least page 1 and maybe 2 if I really like the topic. Otherwise, I read the OP and post.
