People are gonna buy the games anyways, so until everyone starts speaking with their wallets instead of forums and petitions, gamers are going to keep getting screwed.
Yeah, to bad the majority of people don't give a shit. Look at the whole MW2 thing and the dev's screwing over PC players. Know how many console playes didn't buy over this? I'm guessing less than 10. Infinity Ward made thier money, fucked over PC gamers, and destroyed LAN for COD all in one release.

Yes, it assumes that everyone lives in the city and has the kind of broadband that's on all the time.

I don't, I live in the country, and my broadband is quite sporadic at times. And future Ubisoft games will now require you to be online all the time. Why? To prevent piracy?

Well it won't, that much is for certain. All it will do is annoy people like me who bought the games legitimately.

I'd like them to bring back playing offline with bots too, I haven't seen that at all recently.

I've never played a single Unreal Tournament game online, they're just as fun with bots.
Most recent game I've seen with bots is Gears of War 2.

I'm sick of people who buy games just for the Multiplayer. You know, Call of Duty Mod War 2 has a great SINGLE PLAYER campaign. I know, most of you are shocked to discover this, but it does exist.
I really liked the single player campaign actually. I think I liked it more than the multiplayer and spec-ops combined.

Not having split-screen I don't really care about, because I play mostly online anyway. Skimping single-player to focus on multiplayer is annoying, but I don't own any games that do that. I guess I'm just plain indifferent.

Edit: Your title seems to say that games are forcing you to play online, which they aren't. It's not like they secretly hate you and decide to make the game as un-fun as possible by forcing you online.

Online would be fine.... except for the fuckwads that tend to inhabit it. At least when you played LAN the offending wanker could not hide behind the security of anonymity and distance. To be honest, I find most people to be utterly loathsome and have zero desire to spend my leisure time with them.
This.

I tried playing MGS4 online, only to discover that the game was overrun with fucktards and glitchers. Plus, there are a lot of children who rage quit when they're losing. Why the hell would I want to play with those types of people when I can play games with people I know?

Are you kidding me? Online is third only to pudding and female genitalia on the list of things I enjoy rammed down my throat.

I agree entirely. My best gaming memories were of playing the Quake games, Unreal games, Jedi Knight games and MOH(epic 3 way sniper duels) over the LAN with my brother and a friend.

Yes I hate it, I remeber I was going to play farcry 2 with my cuz and little bro ( yes I'm a G, up in the moutains of cally what what!!) when we all final got through all the updates and what not we learned there was no split screenn, and we couldn't do Lan if we wanted to go through this whole mess. AND while I'm ranting who here has seen MAG the online looks cool 256 players but thats all I get when I buy the game? What happen to story, now all you have to do to make a hit game is to have online and there isn't much you can do there beside add more players and vechicles sections, sure ever now and then they will add a gimmicky game mechinice but games can do so much more we are really can do with this median but now its all about money.

I agree with you entirely OP, but my guess is that most game developers have seen the sort of cash flow that is generated by online services and content and want a piece of the action. It's a combination of online subsciptions (like Xbox Live) being alternate sources of revenue (I don't think I'm assuming to much to think that developers get a green-back back-pat for utilizing the online features) and that while splitscreen does offer a very enjoyable gameplay experience (I myself have never played a session of campaign GoW 1/2 without my room mate as Dom) it can't be assumed by developers that such a function would benefit the majority of the market. Internet connections on the other hand...

Just my two coppers.

I prefer online, so it's a win for me. If I want single player I will play an rpg. And not any of that japanese crap.

I'm sick of developers complaining that "technical limitations" are the reason that most games these days don't have splitscreen. Because the console is asked to do "at least twice the work".

If goldeneye on the N64 can do 4 player splitscreen on 4 megabytes of RAM, there is no good reason a game these days on powerful consoles should have anything less than 4 player splitscreen.
but practicality is a good reason why you wouldnt want any more than that

I agree. I remember the most fun I had with split-screen was with GoldenEye on the N-64 I believe. I was in college and we would play in the dorms all night with 6 or 7 players trading out for the 4 screen split. Awesome fun. Slappers only was the best!
either that or throwing knives, both made better with "Liscense to Kil"(l-hit kills for those unfortunate enough to have not played Goldeneye)

If you want to make a multiplayer game, just make multiplayer like Team Fortress 2.
Not sure how LAN support works for TF2 but they are making good progress on bots, its also kind of funny to see bot medics running around healing the team and human medics superglueing themselves to the heavy
