Anyone else think that game companies should just stop with alternate endings?

Done correctly, it's a good thing. I nearly shit my 8 year old self when I saw Fox's dad on Star Fox 64's harder path ending.

Some games do it really well. Just because there are a few duds, doesn't mean scrap the whole idea.

I really like the whole "avoid the bad ending" kinda situation, it gives a game more tension when done correctly. I mean would ME2's ending be as good if you just blazed through the base and killed the final boss with no danger to your squad?

I'll also cite Persona 4's Bad Ending as evidence.

You have an arguement with your party (mostly lead by Yosuke) over the killer's identity (or you can miss the arguement entirely and just fall for the red herring) If you fuck up the game ends about three quarters of the way in, with a certain two characters missing/dead and the mystery goes unsolved.

I hate multiple endings, replay value should come from the experience of playing the game, or a NG+ or something
