anyone else think we need more superhero games.

Few characters are as interesting as the original generic grimdark Batgod? Pah, nonsense!

Personally, I'd love to see a Nightwing/Batgirl game that played like Assassin's Creed. That would be a blast.

Nightwing is a pansy ex-robin, Batgirl is a woman.

Sorry, what were you saying?

...On a more serious note: The reasons most other superhero-games fail is that the lack the interesting backstory, but mostly the fighting mechanics. Look at Batman: AA. It was pretty much "Press X to feel like Batman and kick ass". Now, how did it feel when you played as Spiderman? Pretty clumsy. Sure, you got your moves, but did you get that same "woah"-feeling?
And, it's also because developers feel that other heroes are too "light", i.e they are for "kids that read comics", while Batman can be "dark and gritty", thus they can make an adult came about it.

Nice to see society is nice and progressive in sunny old 2011.

...wait, sorry, I meant to say 'cool story bro'. Is that how it's done these days?

Correction: More superhero games done as well as Arkham Asylum
The majority of comic book hero games are cheep movie cash-ins, and suck, but yes I do agree with you genuinely and I think it could bring a great deal of variety to the games industry, because each hero should play completely differently. One of the best parts of Arkham was that they nailed the feel of being batman perfectly, if all superhero games could achieve that then id love to see more of them.

You do know there are alot of superhero games already?
And the overarching theme seems to be "steaming pile of dog shit".

What we really need are few quality games.

Well we need more good ones, Marvel should have started work on an Avengers game, to come out in time for the Movie. I'd love an Avengers movie that isn't a shitty movie tie in.

Kinda OT: The Wolverine movie tie in was actually worth playing. :O

Yes I do. I'd really like a new Freedom Force or a Freedom Force MMO.

Or a Marvel MMO.

I tried Champions Online, but it was poo

I'd just like to see more "Hero" games. I guess the modern age is in love with the anti hero in all its forms, i'd just like to see heroism injected back into the hero.

i guess subjectivety makes my statement redundant but...

i'd still like to see more heroic figures in games. (not alot just a little more)

We don't need MORE superhero games, we need BETTER superhero games. Ones not based off the movies, since movie games almost always suck.

Right now, the only recent good one I can think of is the "Arkham" series, though earlier in the decade Spider Man 2 was pretty awesome. We need an Arkham Asylum level game for Superman, for Captain America, for Iron Man, for Thor, for Green Lantern, for Wonder Woman. These shouldn't be hard to make, they just take some talent and forethought.

"so few games based on comic book heroes"

...what? There are TONS of games based off of comic book heroes. There are just only a few that are any good. Arkham Asylum is one of them (I've played it, fun for its genre)
Indeed.

While I'd love good superhero games, the odds are we will get really crappy superhero games.

Maybe some "original" superhero games like inFAMOUS and Prototype would be nice. A few more sandbox games, perhaps?

most are, sadly REALLY crappy or movie tie ins >.> so worse

but try City of Heroes or DC Universe, yeah, their MMOs :/ but you can roll your own hero/villain, and CoH is going F2P soon and unlike Champions Online, isn't punishing you for being broke

I think we need more Super Hero RPGs IMO. (no not like city of heros/villians or MMORPGs, i mean SINGLE PLAYER) Seriously how awesome would it be to make your own hero with your own powers in a Spiderman 2: the game type of sandbox and setting!?
i heard the new X-men game coming is kinda like that actually
I must know what this game is then if this is the case! :D
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/X-Men:_Destiny

sounds less like spider man 2,(hadn't really look beyond what was told) an more infamous with power swapping, still, could be good

Indeed. When playing GTA I have often fantasized about going super saiyan at 6 stars and just wrecking everyone's shit. Although I wouldn't want a feature like that to be the highlight of a game like GTA, I would rather just have it added in via mods or cheats, just make the option available in a game that it wasn't designed for, that would make shit DOUBLY entertaining.

Basically cheats need to be reinvented and shift from the standard "God mode" or "unlimited ammo". If you're going to put cheats in the game, you might as well try and be innovative with it because the point is to break the rules and give the player as much of an advantage as possible, restraining it to unimaginative things like invincibility can only stunt the enjoyment of the game that little bit more.

I'd love to see a modern/better remake of this.

Yes, and take away the screen distortion so we can see those horribly satisfying interrogation kills.

I'd love to see more hero games. Spawn: In the Demon's Hand was one of my favorite games on the Dreamcast. I'm also very disappointed by the fact that The Avengers and, Flash were both cancelled since both looked so promising.

As unpopular as this will probably end up being, I'd love to see a third Ultimate Alliance or, an Ultimate Alliance style game centering around the Justice League or, Super Friends. Another awesome idea: a Battlefront style game taking place during the everlasting war between Kree and Skrull.

Quoted for truth.

Not played a good one since Arkham Asylum, although I've still not got around to playing Infamous 2.

The only good superhero games I've played are the X-men Legends games (my sister has a compulsory need to buy every X-men game she comes across, even though she doesn't own anything to play them on... don't ask...), then again, those two are a lot of fun. I'd love to see a third one, actually.

But yeah, as mentioned already, the problem isn't that there aren't that many superhero games, it's that the vast majority of them are just awful.
