Maybe.

I found the RPG elements added by the "rings" to be quite fun in Oracle of Seasons/Ages.

I'd gladly accept it if Game Freak (Pokemon) developed it. as far as I know, they're the only first-party RPG development studio that Nintendo has.
Oracle of Seasons/Ages wasn't Nintendo though...fully. They were both made by Capcom.

Also, LoZ has already been a RPG, kind of...more of a Castlevania/RPG hybrid with Zelda 2.
Ninja'd. damn.

Oh well, here's a song for you all (plenty of swearing):
I'd also like to point out that, to my knowledge, Zelda II was the least popular of the Zelda series... take from that what you will.

That would require actually changing the formula, and taking a risk. And as we all know that's a big no-no for Nintendo.

I'm not talking about NIntendo in the 90's and early 2000's (SNES, N64, and Gamecube), they were awesome! I'm talking about how Nintendo is now.

Yeah... I would love to see some new elements added to the Zelda series, adding character depth to Link (IDFC what anybody says, Link is as shallow as a fucking puddle) and some minor RPG elements would be interesting. But like Hatchet said, Change is as poosible in Nintendo as Activision releasing a free COD map pack.

The Amazing Fan Art one of the fellow escapists found and posted, made me realize once more that with the universe LoZ has, it could be set up for a really good RPG. Now it would probably be more inclined to a JRPG (ie: preset story) or possibly an Open World RPG where you don't control link.

Not to say that they should stop with their current LoZ style of games but maybe a spin off?

What does everyone else think?
They did make a Zelda RPG.

It's called Zelda 2.

I'm not trying to be a smart ass but this isn't the first time i have seen this question and it is odd how few people know about it.

Yes, three people have already mentioned it. But they need to make at least a modern one.

Why though? Why would Nintendo make a Zelda RPG? What would the series even gain from it?

It just doesn't seem like it would be worth it to me.

But why not? The series would gain something at least new for once? It has a universe that is a great but is never trully fully explored. An RPG or even just a more heavy story focused LoZ game could explore it better.

Oh, sorry, when i skimmed the thread the first time no one had brought the game up yet. Didn't mean to repeat them.

It's fine, no one is angry.

How is Nintendo now? They tried something new by giving Metroid to a completely different company. Even if it was a pretty weird result, they did try something new. They also created a system that brought tons of new people into the gaming market, thus revitalizing the industry. And they're currently going to sell a system that gives you 3d without glasses. That's all hardcore risk and change.

I can't wait to play the new Zelda, btw.

They did that already: Zelda 2.

...Oh, in MODERN Zelda titles? Well, unless you want GRIND in a Zelda title (the most common result of adding RPG elements, though not the only result), there is really little reason to do this beyond what the series does currently.

Tell me how adding RPG elements would add to the depth of a Zelda title.
Not to be offensive, but I read this post as if you were actually getting angry at the idea.
Angry? No, merely curious.
I'm genuinely curious what RPG elements could offer to a Zelda title besides an additional layer of grind. Barring that, what are the benefits?
Adding RPG elements does not automatically make a game "deep" if it adds nothing to the experience.

All gimmicks, not a single mention of how they're revolutionizing a franchise. That Metroid... thing was terrible. Probably the reason they stick to the same formula. They didn't bring gaming to a new market, they just sold Wii Fits and stupid casual games to ignorant consumers.

I'm going to be "that guy" and say this: I love Zelda as it is and do not want it to change. I come to Zelda for the temples, the puzzles, and the boss fights. No other game provides the kind of experience Zelda does for me, at least not with an iota of the quality.

I'll do my number-crunching elsewhere. I love Zeldas, I love RPGS, but I don't want to see the two together. And Skyward Sword needs to be in my console right now. I'm getting antsy.
