Me and Saskwach are trying to organise a game of Defcon this Sunday. I believe that Akirasfriend may be playing as well, though I've not had any confirmation yet. We're going to be playing on Sunday at 1pm GMT. Is anyone interested?

Defcon is a 6 player game max so get in quick or make a second game. The more the merrier. I hope to see you (and your hopeless populaces) there.

Personally I've never actually tried Defcon (the shame!). How much are we talking for it these days and is it worth it?

I have it separately, found it on sale in HMV boxed together with Uplink for a tenner. Does that have any implications for playing it since it's not on steam?

About $20 Australian for the boxed game. Dunno about Steam.

It's definitely worth the money, it's one of the most stylish and interesting strategy games I've ever played. The only problem sometimes can be finding people to play with, hence this thread :)

It's a multiplayer game and there's no campaign to work through (though you can play against bots), so it's value is really dependent on whether you want to play something a bit different and interesting instead of the usual blockbuster fare. You haven't really lived until one of your nukes hits home and the little message flashes up "London Hit. 2.3 Million Dead"...

I'm all ready for this... well, almost. Trying to get my key from Introversion - they said they sent me an e-mail with it in. I call bullshit.
Also, Steam and stand-alone versions correlate fine. I had no worries with it, I pre-ordered it from Introversion and I could play with the Steam players, no problems.

I am currently desperately playing single player in the hope that I get enough practice so as not to get totally whooped...

I suck at Defcon...even bots are kicking my ass.

PS: The first person to launch their Nukes usually wins.

That's common but there's other factors. Still, saying that whoever launches first wins is like saying that whoever gets their monster army right outside the enemy's base wins any other strategy game. How did someone get into that position? Smart and skillful play.
The fascinating thing about Defcon is that the real game is played before the light show and the endgame is when things get bright and radioactive. I like this.
Sorry if you were being a bit facetious and didn't earn this rant of mine but it's an issue I hear a lot.

Okay, update... I've tried to retrieve my password from Introversion (all my usual ones didn't seem to work), but they haven't e-mailed it to me even though they said they have. So I'm currently about to message them and see if I can get a human response this time. Till then, I'm stuck with the demo version.
As far as I know, I can play with the rest of you, as long as I'm the only demo player. That shouldn't be a problem, right?
I'll update you if anything changes.

Edit: well, I feel silly. They did e-mail me, of course. I never thought to check the bloody Junk folder.
Disregard the above rant, I suck cocks. I'll be there, on the square. Oh yeah.

Well, I saw a copy in game for 15 quid, but couldn't remember if Defcom was actually the game I was looking for and even if it was felt that 15 quid was probably a rip-off... So still without a copy...

Alas I'm away for the weekend, you guys plan on playing again next week perhaps?
I don't see why this couldn't become a regular thing, if everyone else is up for it.
