I'd love it if this could become a regular thing and there's no reason why it shouldn't. I've recently joined the Escapist Steam group and was looking for a way to try and announce games but I can't find one... is that possible through Steam?

I'm pumped. ARE YOUSE?

I'll start one. My username is Enterndre and the password will be escapist.
I can't believe none of us thought of arranging the server details. *facepalm*
Edit: Strafe, I think one of us made a time zone conversion mistake.

Saskwach reporting in from a smashing victory.
The European Saskwachewan juggernaut decimated Gremlin's Latin America with the help of a timely Pacific distraction from the Asiatic Strafe. Mexico and Sao Paulo, along with all other major south american cities, fell, soon after their defensive network of radars, silos and airbases were probed, spotted and picked apart by a leisurely European strike force.
Unsatisfied with this victory, the great Saskwach turned his radioactive gaze to the Asian continent where he had previously gutted a small outcrop of radars and airbases dangerously close to his own mighty lands. Thanks to a pinpoint bombing run, Delhi and Bombay were flattened and further radars, airbases and silos were spotted.
All did not go the Europeans' way, though, as the desperate Asian foe launched a bombardment of nuclear warheads from his silos. Few cities were spared from this petty gesture of temporary defiance.
Caught out of position, the otherwise omnipotent and omnipresent Saskwach prepared a final blow using a bombing run over Russian airspace, a southern attack from several carriers and submarines fresh from the shattered American front, and, most crushingly, a grouped launch from all of Europe's silos. The strike, which covered Russian skies, weeded out the exhausted Asiatic defence network and unleashed havoc on it's now defenceless population centres.

Other documenters may provide a more factual appraisal of this great battle but to do so would be to beg punishment from the world's only remaining superpower and it's great leader: Saskwach, Who Lost the Least.

Sound files removed from Gremlin's Latin America command bunker replay the following message:

"Oohhh, this is cool. Look at all these lights!"
"I can build stuff! Woooow, right lets put these... here, and those there. Yeah, thats good!"
"Hey, what're these red things coming towards me? They look pretty!"
"Wow, there sure are a lot of them."
"What's that noi-"

End of recording.

WHAT.
I was there, 1PM GMT. So no-one turns up, then you have the game.
I demand a rematch, including me. I feel like stabbing someone.

Sorry man, we waited for a while and tried to get in contact with you but you didn't get back to us... Did you get my msn request?

Anyway there is going to be a rematch next week (you're going down, sask!) and it'll hopefully be a bit better organised than this one. I've set up a new facebook group called (with great style and panache) 'The Unofficial Escapist Gaming Group' which has all the details you need to get in the game.

Bring on World War 4!

Before this Sunday rolls around I think we have to be very sure of when this game will be, who will be setting up the server, the password (this should be PMed to anyone showing interest), etc. These details are what confused things last time.

Double posting here for a reason. There will be another defcon game this sunday at roughly 2pm GMT. Strafe Mcgee will make the server, which will ironically be named Strafe Mcgee. The password will be escapist.
So far we have Singing Gremlin, Strafe and myself confirmed for MAD fun. Thanks to our terrible planning last time a few interested parties missed out (Melaisis, Akirasfriend, Sib, I'm looking at you). Hopefully this time you can be there.

Oddly enough, when I tried the demo, I couldn't get into it. I guess it was just a little too slow for me. :\

Well, it was just me and Saskwach, and I got my arse handed to me (as I suspected I would).
We played Big World mode, so our silos and airbases were nigh on useless, radar coverage was tiny, and it took fucking YEARS to get anywhere. However, it did lead to huge epic naval battles that swung one way and the other quicker than a Metronome going Allegro. It all went downhill after Mexico City was obliterated by a stealthy barrage, but unbeknownst to the Wach, I managed to claw back a temporary lead first with a surprise sub attack on Tokyo and Nagoya, shortly followed by a quick attack from my submarines that left Bombay, Bangalore and Hyderabad in ruins.
While I defended my continent as well as I could, South America eventually succumbed to the might of the Asian forces and was subsequently nuked to high buggery. However, while my beautiful nations were being blown to pieces, I had maneuvered my withdrawn North Pacific fleet and surprise attacked the remnants of his defensive naval forces, letting bombers fly and hitting Hong Kong, Wahun, Bangkok and Shanghai. I finally gave up the ghost and surrendered to Saskwach's superior forces after my last ditch attempt to strike Seoul was decimated.
Fair game to that man, he sures knows how to humiliate in Defcon. Bravissimo!

Thanks akira, and that north pacific fleet pulled a truly awesome whoopsy daisy on me. I still don't know how you managed to move them south undetected through my scattering of ships. Your subs were a bugger too- by the end of the game I was constantly dancing my ships out of fear that your nukes might be on the way. BigWorld is a great game mode and I hope all the escapist defconners won't mind trying it some time.
"The Wach". I like it. I like it a lot.

Damnit, Sunday can't come soon enough. I'm always open for a Defcon game most days (except Friday night, when I do my podcast). Just add me on Steam (akirasfriend) and I'll gladly get my ass kicked by all you fun-lovin' people out there.

Hello again people. I'm sure you're sick of me but I won't stop bumping this thread until the Sunday Defcon match is a regular thing. Again, 2pm GMT, though this can be made flexible now I've left my Sunday job.
Now, the next order of business is what type of match we'll play. The three big settings are default, diplomacy and (dark horse here) Big World.
Default: You fight each other, making alliances if you want but it's still very much a free for all. Shooting is more important than protecting.
Diplomacy: Everyone starts allied with Survivor scoring set on (ie the population you keep alive is your score). The idea is to outthink and backstab everyone else until you're the only one left standing at the end of the game.
Big World: Default with the game world size and unit numbers doubled. Almost too much to handle but this setting makes you feel like an admiral. Akira and I agree this is great fun if a little boring when you're knocked out.
Everyone who's up for it post interest and what game-type you'd like.
