Anyone feel like forum activity really slowed down?

Oh... Whatever. I was the last person standing on a forum once.
Literally for the last 3 months before it went down it was me and one other person. If that.
The end.
Now that was a dying forum... XD
Matrix Online?
Nah. Fight klub TCG...

That game did not last very long. 2-3 years at most.

I only joined in 2013 but had lurked for years prior to that. Times have changed. I can feel it in my bones. I can feel it in my toes. I can feel it on the roof.

I don't know if they're less active, but the forums have certainly swung to the right since GG started and that lot all flocked over here. Once upon a time saying 'SJW' unironically would get you laughed at. But no more. Shame, really.

That's what you get when you replace all your half decent content with shoddy comics and re-runs from other places on the Internet.

Yeah, things've slowed down. Most of the posts I see nowadays are usually the same handful of people with huge postcounts making inside jokes at each other. Or people asking why GG is still a thing, and thus making it a thing again. Have the forums gotten less interesting because of it? Eh, not really.

Some six months or so ago someone posted a forum traffic comparison from around 2011 with a present day one, and the traffic was like, 10% of what it used to be. And frankly, it feels like it's dipped even more since then.

I won't speculate as to why, there's been a ton of reasons posted, and there are probably a myriad of contributing factors. As I see more and more threads like this one, though, you can probably add "insufficient population" as a self-aggravating problem diverting traffic from the forums. Even cesspools like GID have become utterly tepid, I check in once every day or two and it's the identical set of topics with the same 5-6 talking heads providing 90% of the back and forth.

They should probably consider some forum merges soon, frankly.

So soon after they split the forum up? (By which I mean creating 'Game Industry Discussion' to get GG out of the other boards.)

Wouldn't merging be a bit of a step backward? Logistically speaking, I mean.

While harmful to traffic, the segregation of GID (and also Religion of Politics) is most likely a necessary step. If you don't gulag your controversy you'll just alienate every moderate on your forums.

However, stuff like User Reviews and Forum games should really be pushed back into the "general population". When you've got threads stagnating for days/weeks with hardly any activity, anything you can do to consolidate traffic without unleashing a swarm of locusts is probably for the best.

A certain reality to online forums is that we usually here to complain and argue things. Don't believe me, look at any gamergate thread and see how many people that think it's all so silly, yet are there ready to read and jump in at the first sign they can take GG down a peg. Most of us have watched a year of gamergate go on and realized neither side wants to move, and it's a waste of good gaming time trying to change other people. The side effect is that we find we really don't have much else we want to talk about so no one says anything. Even threads like this come off as a complaint to other people instead of starting some conversations yourself.

I imagine the the current gen being lackluster hasn't helped much (what's to get hyped about anymore), but you aren't he only one that's stopped posting for certain topics because I know it will either get lost in the argument others are having, or get dog-piled by a half dozen regulars that have nothing to add but how stupid they see my view of the world.

It's because Baffle isn't posting enough.

I firmly believe that Baffle could single-handedly save the whole forum.

I've seen one of my posts be the top response on the "hot topic" box for hours recently, several times. This never would have happened before the Fantastic Four reboot! Thanks, Fox!

But seriously, yes, for a bunch of reasons.

The solution would be to post more. Make threads that interest you and try and get bites. But even that only works if other people are interested.

Sadly, I got more quotes than that in a month while not posting here. I should probably say "per month."

But mostly, I was quoting you to make it 8. >.>

Honestly, I'm surprised there isn't more rage at the generation. But maybe that's so last gen.

And maybe if we wait a year, we'll have plenty of threads about how PC gaming is being held back by consoles. But then, that sort of thread is kind of tiresome.

Actually, so are the hype threads. And discussion has gone the way of the dogpiling you mention, so that's more or less out.

Come to think of it, the main reason I'm on here in the last couple months is a usergroup.

The consistent banning and passive aggression appears to be a continual complaint of the forums. So, it's not really surprising that there's only a finite amount of people who want to put up with that, and this pool is being depleted.

I doubt anything will change, the elements that exist for the purpose of creating drama on the forum will still continue to do so, and even removed, it's probably too late at this stage.

Or we're afraid of people jumping on us for being entitled fanboys for wanting better (working) games or better systems with better features. Face it, just saying you want something would get you dumped on even before ME3 and feminism brought desires to the forefront and to obnoxious levels.

It really had slowed down, like everyone said, with two popular content creators leaving the team, it was always going to be obvious. I was just surprised it's stayed so slow.

Although to be fair it hasn't been insanely busy for a while now. Or do I just think that because I have this weird magic power where I always end up being the last comment in a thread?

When has that stopped anyone? Before or after Mass Effect?

Undoubtedly.
The forums are living on borrowed time, even if the rest of the site is not.
I still keep in touch with a few folks via PMs, but after the 'Great Political Split' of gg/aGG, there's little going on around here that doesn't involve the grinding of axes.

And I know for a fact it wasn't always like this. There were plenty of petty squabbles, but nothing quite so bitter.

I think it's a combination of all the factors people have already said that I won't bother reiterating in addition to the fact that the site was down for half a day...I think, yesterday.

I wish they hadn't slowed down because I have two different advice posts that I could really use help with, haha. Unless...people just aren't interested in them  (nah) At the risk of coming off as self-promoting myself and violating the terms and conditions around here these are the two threads I'm talking about: 1) A Good Voice Recorder and 2) Getting Microsoft Word and Disk Swapping/Moving

You obviously misspelled Our Lord And Savior EternalNothingness/CommanderPonyShep. It's okay, He shall forgive you.

Personally, this forum lost a LOT of (mostly ProGG) regulars during the first few months of GG due to bans or general forum attrition. That whole thing has pretty much settled into two usergroups and parts of GID now so it's out of the way to an extent, but it was still an account graveyard for a while with very, very long time posters getting banned and moving to other Defy Media forums.

Bob and Jim were starting to actively turn people away from the site with their shenanigans so good riddance to bad rubbish, especially with how Jim publicly poured bile all over his former employers here afterwards. But this website definitely needs new, eye catching video content, I enjoy Yahtzee's new series because I enjoy nitpicking as much as he seems to but it's not really eye catching, it's something for people who re already here and who like his stuff, not something that pulls in new people.
