Anyone here that plays Rainbow Six Siege that can let me know how the community is?

I still adore Overwatch, but it's becoming so hard to stay a fan of that game.
The community has been a bit...fiesty before, but lately it's just been nothing but people whining.
And I haven't touched competitive in a few seasons just because I don't care for using my mic, but when I did I just got berated for my perfectly reasonable McCree skills, or my slightly off timed Zarya ult or something so pitifully stupid that there was zero reason to pin a loss on just me.

Sorry, I almost went on a tangent there, but I'm leaving it in so there's an idea with my frustration.

My question is, how are the players in Rainbow Six Siege? Do they get absurdly offended if you don't want to use a mic in basic ass matches?

Are they too competitive? Do they whine a lot about certain characters/classes (bear with me, idk how RSS does their character system)?

Is using a mic absolutely, undeniably the only way to ensure a successful match? Because if so, I guess I'll look elsewhere.

I just want to play a god damn game without some 26 year old adult telling me I should kill myself because I made a tiny mistake, or I'm not giving it my 100% best because I just want to play a VIDEO GAME.

I apologize for the fluff to my question. I'm very upset. I still love Overwatch dearly, and I don't want to abandon it, but I need another online FPS (and I am aware of the kind of FPS Siege is, so please hold back warnings about it's play style) to play during my free time.

Sorry I'm not a veteran or anything, my playtime is definitely under 50 hours. But my experience so far has been ok, never gotten any complaints for not having a mic apart from the 'hey u mic'ed?'

But as long as you pay attention and don't do stupid things, people don't seem to mind too much. But learning the map helped me a lot from copping flak. Then again, I played a lot of terrorist hunt to familiarize myself at the start, as being on the same team the only issue is trying to get kills before the better players are done wiping out the map.

Didn't turn out to really be my kind of game, but to stay on topic the people I met are nice, ranging from friendly to just all out screwing around, but not a great deal of hostility (was only told to kill myself once after plugging a team mate through a door!)

Is there any kind of solo training-like mode? Like with bots that gives you a basic understanding of how the game is played?

Yes, there's about 15 single player training missions. They are short, but they do a decent job of teaching you the basics You can also play the multiplayer modes against bots or simply do terrorist hunt. However when playing against bots you will be pitted against more than just 5 bots so its more like 5v20 instead of 5v5. There are no ally bots so you either have to bring someone with you or join matchmaking if you don't want to play by yourself.

So I bought the $15 starter edition (before the new bad news that Ubisoft just did with the game came out...) and I'm enjoying it in the solo missions immensely so far, but of freaking course two of my three GPU fans have completely stopped working and the poor 980ti is burning itself alive and throttling the game (was reaching above 90 C), so I'll have to get into the multiplayer once I get the (hopefully) fitting replacement fans/shroud

So yeah...I've played a couple matches. Uh, my first match someone popped in and said "Heil Hitler." and then proceeded to say he was spectating me specifically and then calling me clueless. So yeah. Fuck this game I guess. Not in the mood for that shit.

That sucks. I've got 200+ hours logged and I've had maybe a dozen matches with toxic idiots at this point. As long as you stay in casual the community seems to be pretty cool overall, with the competitive toxicity only rearing its' head in Ranked.

I was in the casual mode, and it was my first match ever.

My second match had everyone vote to kick someone because he made one mistake.

It just...really put me off. Like, is the kick system really that petty? Because I could just turn voice chat off and move on, but I'm afraid some jerk is going to get offended I can't hear how edgy he is on the internet and convince everyone else to boot me off.

Overwatch I have the benefit of already knowing what I'm doing because I started the game when it came out with everyone else, so the whole community was learning, so I can easily get away with not needing a mic or constant communication. But RSS has been out at least...three years now? I don't know what it is about online games (shooters specifically) that brings out the worst in veterans. There's zero benefits to berating new players unless they're objectively trying to ruin the experience.

I think you are always going to get idiots, racist neo Nazis and general toxicity when playing any online game. Its sad that people can't just play the game and have fun, but they have to ruin other peoples fun too.

If steam doesn't end up agreeing to my refund request, I'll probably give the game another try. I expected toxic players, but not literally my first two matches.

The only online interactions where everyone seemed chill and quiet was in Terrorist Hunt, which I suppose because it's against bots so it doesn't matter.

Siege is a fantastic game. You shouldn't do yourself the disservice of being put off it by a few toxic players. It has a very large playerbase, and the matches are quick, so you are bound to run into toxicity from time to time, but unpleasant behaviour is by no means the rule. In the majority of matches, I don't encounter any bad behaviour at all. In most higher level ranked matches, you can find fantastic cooperation and communication with complete strangers.

If someone is calling you out in Casual, when you are clearly level 1 or whatever, then... lol. He is a moron. Tell him what an idiot he is being, and to chill out some.

Because if you aren't playing to win the game (regardless of you having fun or not), then you are ruining other people's fun. If it's 6v6 and I have a person on my team not trying to win, then my team is playing a man down and it's basically 5v6. I don't want to be on either team in that scenario because 1) it'll take my team playing so much better than the other team to win and 2) I don't want to be on the other team either because easy wins aren't fun. It's the same thing with any competitive game in nature whether we are talking a online shooter, a board game, or a physical sport. If you are just playing for "fun" in a competitive game, you are then playing "kingmaker" without even knowing it because your actions are creating a snowball effect that is making it directly much easier for one player or team to win, and nobody wants that. You don't need to be super competitive or anything, just play any competitive game where you feel every action you take is the best action to help you to win whether its an online shooter or Twilight Imperium and it will be a fun game for everyone. There's plenty of other games that can be played for just fun if that's your thing so play those games.

I've definitely put my time into online shooters to know so many people aren't even trying to win objective game modes whether not even knowing how to win, just not caring, or just trying to get a good KDR. It's confounding that at least 90% of players don't understand how to take/defend objectives at all. Check out this post [https://community.callofduty.com/t5/Modern-Warfare-3-Forum/How-to-play-Domination/td-p/7399198] about someone "yelling" at the COD community for playing Domination wrong yet they fail at Step 1 because you've already lost the game in the 1st 10 seconds if you do that against a good team.

Well, I was thinking about getting into this game. We had some limited, small, but pleasant times when we all tried to play Overwatch together.

If there's interest, I might get the game on Steam and some of you more experienced guys can take us around and show us how it's done? Even against bots for the first time to get some idea on what to do?

... Maybe?
