So I was going through another thread when I realized that a games series I really liked seems to have disappeared with no explination.

so in 2000 TLJ came out, won awards, sold well, etc.

Then in 2006 TLJ: dreamfall came out, won awards, sold well, etc. It was short, and made a clear splace for a 3rd game to close the series.

Both games are still being sold, both on steam and at the publishers website and the publisher is maintaining the websites for both games at their own domains. The publisher is also still releasing games.

But I haven't heard anything about a 3rd game. ANyone know if they are working on one or if the series got canned for some reason?

The company that works on the longest journey franchise is currently working on "the secret world", an MMO coming out on April. They have mentioned that they will continue working on a third part for the longest journey, bu it is unclear if they want to make it an MMO, a single player quest, an episodic quest or whatever.
I am guessing it will be a while until we see a third part for this series, if that will happen at all

If you want to know more look up 'Ragnar Tørnquist' who was the lead developer and writer for the Longest Journey series. On his personal blog he's stated a couple times that he has every intention of continuing the series and that he's already got it all written and planned out, but till the Secret World is out it's on the backlog.

There was brief chat about 'Dreamfall: Chapters' but that was years ago and the episodic fad has sort of passed so we'll see if anything ever comes of that.

But yeah, it'll be continued one day, just gotta be patient. The series made money but also wasn't a blockbuster success so it's sort of a secondary thought for the publishers.

Longest Journey is being released on iPad I discovered the other day. Not that I own one but hopefully that means a lot more people will play it as it is a fantastic game.
