One, it's not an "Atari" classic. They probably published it around where you live, it was made by Treasure.

Two, yeah I remember it, fun game. Had a lot of fun playing it. Still have it in my collection on the GC

Three, are you actually expecting today's "hardcore" to play something this demanding? Nah, they're too used to hand-holding games, mate.

Four, even if they weren't, shoot'em ups may not be their thing.

Five, it's pretty damn hard to find. Not as hard as, say, Bangai-O on the Dreamcast, but still.

Funny.

I was just telling my co-worker about this game the other day.

Soo many rage-moments with this game. Demon Soul's hard :p

I remembered you could get it off XBLA a couple days ago, so I downloaded it. Coincidentally, I also bought Outland at the same time, which shares the same core game mechanic which I literally had no idea about. Weird eh?

Played it for a little bit, got my arse handed to me. That shit is hard. I've beaten F-Zero GX on Master and Super Meat Boy's Dark World though, so I could do pretty well if I put the effort in.

The difficulty feels like a crutch though - there's only 5 levels, and they're all really short so if you were good you could blast through the entire game in under an hour, the fact it's super difficult seems like a way to add gameplay hours to a game with very little content. I call that cheating.

4chanese ftw

and yes, people need to play it

though I swear no matter how hard I try, I just cannot pass stage 2 and the god damn corridor part that has all that shit closing on you

and Radiant Silvergun as well (think about it, it's a shoot-em-up with a ship that has LIGHT SABERS)

I always wanted it for my Gamecube, but never had enough cash. Even now it still seems to sell for a fair bit. I've played it at a friends though, and it's damn good, hard as nails mind, but still good. It's a shame that they don't really make games like this anymore... something that difficult would never make it to the shelves today (Super meat boy doesn't count, it's no where near as hard as this!)

*Sigh* Sometimes I wonder who they're making games for these days... as an avid PC gamer it would be easy to blame it on dumbing down for the console players, but I used to play on consoles and I don't recall games being so overly simple and easy back then. It's nice to see a post about this game and remember just how hard games can be. I must get around to buying this, I love a challenge : )

very very true, i was only able to find it in japanese and it's sort of just a demo... but hey, it's still fun as hell.

This game is surprisingly hard to find. I lucked out. I got mine from a stand-alone Gaming Retail store, that just HAPPENED to get one in second hand, a day or 2 after I came in asking if they had a copy and to let me know if they come across one.

I think Outland will be the better game myself, but we'll decide later. Ikaruga is still a fantastic game though.
