So apparently the first ever purpose-built aircraft carrier was built on my birthday. Yet my brother is the one who loves all of that sweet-ass military tech. Funny how that works.

Also, spain's shift from a dictatorship to a democracy! And a number of locally significant events or other small little things, like the indian national anthem being first sung that day, or darwin beginning his trip on the beagle.

And kind of a lot of natural disasters and.. human caused disasters? I can't think of the term.
People did a lot of awful things to other people on december 27th in the last 30 years or so.

January 28, 1986 was when the Space Shuttle Challenger blew up.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Space_Shuttle_Challenger

Fun fact: I was born minutes before it blew up.
That was the day my mother found out she was going to have me. And her birthday.

I feel old, I remember that happening we had a moment of silence at school and Regan talked ALL Saturday morning so I couldn't watch He-Man or Ghost Busters.
I was actually being taken to school by my parents. It exploded just as we were pulling into the parking lot. I didn't know what I was seeing until I saw the news when I got home.

Well apparently when I was born this happened: Express train derails in Ethiopia, kills at least 428
And in 1128: Pope Honorius II grants a Papal Sanction to the military order known as the Knights Templar, declaring it to be an army of God
And those that like Orlando Bloom, I share his birthday though he was born 8 years prior to me(I found that out either when FotR came out or when the first Pirates movie came out)
Oh and Wyatt Earp died in LA on my birthday in 1929....

anyone who wants linkage to things that happened on my birthday (there was something about hitler in there...i skimmed it) can go here:

The Friday the 13th remake came out on my 12th birthday (February 13th).

Ironically enough, everything but the midnight show was sold out when I went to see it, so I saw The Pink Panther 2, instead.

Holy crap, it's my birthday today too! (It is, honest!) I'm 22 now. I've always loved the meteor shower being on my birthday. I like to joke about it being 'the heavens declaring my glory.'

Also, I enjoy being a Leo. The description is always uncannily accurate too... heh, sometimes that's good, sometimes it's bad.

Yesterday my girlfriend gave me a few presents, including a little figurine of Khal Drogo, a beautiful pouch for my pipe tobacco, and the DVD set of the last season of Spartacus. And the Castlevania pre-order coming out this month on Steam.
At the end of this week, I will be having a gathering of friends, at which we will probably /hopefully/ get a bit too drunk.

All this sounds awesome, I know... But this day, the day of my birthday, is always a touch disappointing for some reason. I can't remember ever being able to celebrate on my actual birthday. I know it doesn't matter and it's 'just another day,' but it's hard to shake the feeling that I'm doing something wrong haha wasting time or something

Wow, you developed pretty fast. Doesn't this make you the smartest man who has ever lived or is this some aging condition wherein you live your life in a single day? Strange that I haven't heard anything of a meteor shower today, not that I'd be able to see anything through these clouds.

All history remembers of my birthday is that three people died. What a downer.

21st December. Could have had the apocalypse last year, if the Mayans got their numbers right!
As for historical value, nothing really interesting happened. But I did learn I celebrate my birthday alongside this badass:

Woke up in Bangkok at 2 am with explosive diarrhoea, while on the bog I then puked over all of the bathroom, the spasms caused me to go from both ends at the same time, and it was my birthday

Well next year, my birthday (March 2nd) shares the date with the 2013-2014 Oscars. So for the 18th birthday I am hosting a fancy tie oscar party. Cause why not?

I also share a birthday with Daniel Craig. *girly squee*
