People say CoD's community is bad, I laugh at that APB Reloaded makes that community look like saints.

So I was playing and I accidently team killed a player and so I said in the District chat. "They should remove the team killing in this." The District suddenly erupted as if I had suggest another genocide. They jumped on me and began to say obsinities and QQ and the whole nine yards. Most things were like "Go to MW3 or TF2 (which suprised me by the TF2 one) or GTFO You Noob."

Not once did I get a reason, and when near the end of this huge arguement (which I will confess I got into a bit too much and began to swear and such) I said I hadn't gotten a good reason to keep it and this is the response I got.

"I don't think you deserve to hear my reason."

I am sorry, but the person who said this who was trying to act like he was superior, I feel was trying to hide the fact that there was NO argument against it.

Now let me explain why I hate the team killing system in the game.

APB allows you to fully customize your character, there for you can be a cop and look like a criminal and vice versa. I personally have been killed before by team mates because they thought I was a criminal. There is a little name above the characters that is either green or red depending on your side, but in the heat of battle with cars exploding and bullets flying, it can sometimes be easily missed. But then the game punishes you by reducing your reward significantly, which makes it just a horrible system. Maybe if it didn't have a punishing system it would be okay but it does have it.

For disscussion value, what gaming community is really bad but no one mentions?

APB is pretty awful.

One of the MMOs I play is Fallen Earth. It's a very atmospheric, post-apoc setting with, by modern MMO standards, a really steep learning curve. You start the game with zip guns that fire copper ball bearings, and no armor. You can't buy weapons and armor - if you want a real gun then find another player who will sell you one, or make your own. You want bullets? Make them too.

It also has a relatively small, but friendly and relaxed community. There's not a lot of drama in the chat channels and the help channel has actual GMs present and visible most of the time. It is, without question, the best MMO community I've experienced.

So a while back Gamersfirst bought over Fallen Earth, and they ran a cross promotion with APB - play Fallen Earth to a certain level and get a code for free gear for your APB character. So for a long weekend we had an influx of APB players, and the help channel was utter chaos.

"how the **** do I get a ****** horse?"
"when do I get a REAL gun?"
"Why isn't my horse moving?"
(answer - it's dead.)
"HOW DO I GET HORSE????!!!!"
"WTF? where is quest giver?"
"how do I draw my gun??????"
"Mother******!!!!!!!!! **** YOU *******!!!"
"this gun is Gay."
"this horse is Gay."
"this game is Gay."

Etc. There were a few who seemed to 'get' the game, but in general it was hilarious how much the visitors measured up to the appalling stereotype of the typical APB player.

Combat Arms community.

You wanna tear out your hair in two seconds? Go there.

You'll find every form of failure, ranging from raging assholes who think they're the shit, nooblets who forgot how to read the rules & FAQ, blatant hackers who haven't been banned (believe me, there's still a few), WAY too many kids online with every swear word ever created & some I never heard of. Did I mention the script kiddies, potential pedos, & generally raging assholes?

I haven't been there in a long time, generally because the game itself turned to shit (script kiddies, hackers, self-important raging assholes, abusive moderators who rage kick frequently if you shoot them once, hit detection issues, input registry issues, random glitching, lagging & hitbox issues, etc) & the community was just too damned inept to deal with.

Probably the WOW community.

It's been a long time since I've been on there, but from what I remember, I met a lot of pricks on there. Of course I was younger back then so knowing me, I was probably asking for it.

Also, I've never played APB, but I know there is one thing good about it. And that's Criken:

Of the ones that I encountered, DotA and HoN. Such intense hostility towards new players is something I've never ever seen before. It makes me a bit worried about DotA2...

WoW's community isn't terrible, it's mostly down to a vocal minority that can be safely ignored. My time in WoW (Vanilla and Burning Crusade) was a fairly pleasant experience, as far as other people go. When I needed help I could usually find it, if I needed advice, someone would pitch in. Granted, this might not be the case depending on the server, but then it's not a general problem of the game, but rather the individual communities.

One game that's often called out is LoL, but I'm just not seeing it. Sure, there's the occasional rager, but in general people aren't nearly as venomous as in many other games. I've recently been leveling a smurf (an alternate account - haven't played much in a while and my skills slipped) and I rarely see people bashing newbies as long as the said newbies have the basic gameplay down don't respond to friendly advice with "STFU" or something. And there's no excuse for not knowing the basic gameplay, what with a while Coop VS AI mode devoted to casual play and basic training of new players.

Uncharted Waters Online... the people who survive the STEEP learning curve generally become 1 of 2 types of players. 1) The decent guys who help out if they know the answer OR 2) The people who THINK they know the answer to everything because the game has such a steep learning curve and they made it through. I have been playing since closed beta and am still discovering new things so I find it a little suspicious when someone comes along telling newbies what skills they HAVE to pick if they want to play "properly".

The influx of "Where do I go?" from newbies in a game where you can circumnavigate the entire planet is a tad annoying but is acceptable.

Combat Arms sucks so much. And their community is like cancer. Games that are designed to be free-to-play always sucked because people who actually have the decency to pay for a product are probably more serious that those idiots that just want to play everything for free.

I sit with the APB Community pretty often. It's sad, but true.. it's a rough group to get along with, especially if you're new. It's on par with my interpretation of the MOBA crowds, and while I don't have as much of an issue with Fallen Earth, the lack of a friendly face from the development teams and support really turn the community's presence sour a bit more than you'd expect.

EvE Online has a pretty acidic community. While you may find SOMEONE not to be out to kill you, most of the time it's someone looking to abuse you in one way or another- either for profit or fun.

Why I think this is the perfect time to talk about my experiences with the DoTA 2 community.

Let me first say that I've never played DoTA, and I haven't played much of its siblings either. I tried League of Legends once, and more recently, I played Rise of Immortals for a bit, and I wasn't particularly good at either one.

Recently, I've won DoTA 2 as part of the Great Gift Pile on Steam, and I decided to try and play it. At this point in time, the game has no tutorial to speak of, so if you're a new player.. god help you, basically. And here's why.

I join a 5vs5 lobby, and we get to the character selection screen. I'm not familiar with any of them, and I end up picking one of the range characters.
At one point during the match, the enemy starts attacking our middle tower, and a couple of people from our team rush to defend it, myself included. Upon arrival, one of my teammates says the name of the character that I'm playing as, followed by "wow, seriously?" I ignore him, and do my best to defend the tower.
I try to cast a spell on one of the enemy heroes, which fails, for whatever reason. The helpful teammate from earlier immediately remarks that I'm "casting that wrong every single time" (note: this was the first time that I used that spell). Again, I ignore him, and continue playing.
Soon, the enemy team overruns us, and despite our best efforts, me and the helpful teammate end up dead.
We respawn at base, when my teammate again mocks my choice of player character, saying: "i can't believe you picked her. i'm playing with idiots." I tell him: "Thanks for the input. Did it occur to you that someone might be new at this game?" He doesn't reply.

As the match went on, multiple players, from both my team, and the opposing one, joined in on the bullying, with varied remarks such as "stupid n00b", or "omg, newbies", being thrown about more often than I could count.

The reverse is true as well.

I play Team Fortress 2 a lot, and I often see Premium "veterans" talking down to those who play the game for free. "F2P noobs" is a common insult, as if the lack of interest in the game's Premium content is somehow indicative of one's skill at the game.

To be fair, that did fit in on you since you was new to the game. Out over that I say Dota 2 is going to be just as awful as all the other MOBA games when it comes to their communities ._.

I seen just as many ppl hating on me since I did buy the game to the extent that some servers threw me out T.T"

I have noticed that Team Fortress 2 is a lot more unfriendly than people make it out to be. I've only played it once, people kept shouting at me for not knowing what I was doing on a game I'd never played before. If they'd have told me which class I should have played for a balanced team then that wouldn't be so bad, but apparently if I didn't know what class I should be then I should just jump off a bridge. Also, carnal relations with my mother were mentioned during this lively discussion.

The worst one I've found though is that of Runes of Magic. They're not aggressive as such, but playing the game and having fun seems to take a back seat to ruining someones day. And the gold and auction spammers, good god they're annoying.

I've played APB quite a bit.

And the whole friendly fire issue isn't really that big of a deal, and actually kinda works. It's supposed to be a "Tactical shooter", thus communication with your team mates and knowing where and when your allies are is important.

Yes, the game has a Time-to-kill of like 0.5 seconds for most guns thus kinda defeating the tactical aspect, however, it's a core part of the game, and friendly fire works into this.

As for the community?

The open world allows for both the hilarious, the Free to Play Shooter allows for the hilariously angry.

The game can definately get annoying, but, making this public is something else entirely, it would seem there are more willing to do so on APB than other games.

My own favourite is "LOL CAMPERS", while standing and waiting on a building two blocks away.

This. I used to play DotA a fair amount in WC3, but I just couldn't do it anymore. It's also kept me from playing League of Legends and other games like them, and has me very wary of DotA2 despite my love of Valve. I'm hoping they can do something to at least help ease new players into it, if not curb the terrible behaviour of the community.

It's a shame the community is so bad too. I like playing competitive games, and I liked DotA, but the amount of hostility, even when it's not directed at you, is too much. I think the real irony is that the community would probably be more competitive, and better served by welcoming new players rather than doing everything they can to make them leave the game before they even learn how to play.

Comments like the ones above make me glad that I've been avoiding MMO's and most multiplayer games for the last few years. I used to run into things like this in the past, but the hateful comments and the communities themselves were rarely as bad as the ones mentioned here.

Seriously? It's a game that revolves primarily around crime simulation. How could you expect them to act any differently than their avatars?

I only started playing TF2 this year and I really like the community on it.

You weren't playing as Spy or Sniper were you?
One problem I've noticed with the game is that since a lot of people like Sniper and Spy, these are the guys that get picked the most often. And as such you get a team composed of Snipers and Spys and 1 other guy.
If you were one of these and there were already a few on your team, that may have been the problem. Otherwise you got unlucky and picked a server full of jerks.
