as people have stated, HoN, DoTa, LoL are all horrible horrible communities filled with the most elitist garbage out there. there is no way you could force me to sit down to play with those grieving bastards.

Probably the WOW community.

It's been a long time since I've been on there, but from what I remember, I met a lot of pricks on there. Of course I was younger back then so knowing me, I was probably asking for it.snip
The WOW community is far from great, but it isn't as bad as what this guy described for the APB community, so I would guess you were probably asking for it a little bit and you were also in one of the worse servers.
Looking back, yeah, it really wasn't that bad. I have met some pretty cool people on there. It's just that I seem to remember the people I didn't had a good time with the most.

It was also the first online community I joined as well, so I ended up learning how the internet worked and what was proper etiquette on there. Most of which I learned the hard way.
There's the "vocal minority" thing with WoW. If you go to the forums or other online communities for the game, you'll quickly lose all faith in humanity. However, in the game itself most people are ok. Of course there is the occasional jerkwad, but I pugged a lot from BC to the end of WotLK and a bit at the beginning of Cata, and the negative experiences were the exception. The chat was also mostly friendly and helpful. And this was playing in a couple of different servers. Maybe some specific servers are bad, but the ones I played weren't.

Eve-Online's Community is both terrible and brilliant.

Allow me if you will to explain. first a preface though

Scamming is Legal
Murder is Legal
Theft is Legal
PvP is ALLWAYS on WHEREEVER you happen to be (no in station but that's basically a house to store crap)
When you die you lose Everything you had with you, Your Ship, Your Mods, Your Cargo, Your Drones and your Current Skill Clone, if you Clone is insufficient you lose Skill Points.

Lefts take a bad scenario to emphasis this.

You are minding your on business doing a mission (basically quests in any other MMO) your ship is totally worth with everything on it 1 Billion isk (in-game currency) 1 Billion isk is quite alot, so some guy comes in to your mission, and steals something, you can now shoot him, but he offers to sell you the item for 10 Million , for the case of not wanting to get into a fight you agree, he drops the item in a can, after you pay. you take said item (you are now flagged as a thief to him) all his friends arrive and they promptly kill you, you have now lost a 1 Billion isk Ship, 10 Million in the payment, the item. this is legal, you can whine to CCP about it they wont do anything. your 1Billion down there 10 Million up plus what ever they can loot from your now charred remains of a ship. they may even have ransomed you for more hurt.

This can and will happen in Eve, and thats what makes the game great, sure for doing it the people arn't exactly holier then thou, but its in the game mechanics. on the flip side there are 1000's of people willing to help you out, stuck on a mission ask and someone might help (they might also kill you) don't know what to do ask the Help Channel someone will know and will tell you (the channel is usually heavily moderated).

Eve is a hive of knights and villainy and players are in both groups.

if this post reads oddly it might be my fanboyism :)

Seriously? It's a game that revolves primarily around crime simulation. How could you expect them to act any differently than their avatars?
There are security forces in the game aswell.
Story-wise, they're no better than the Criminals. Yes there's likely to be a few better behaved characters (like yours truly), but effectively both sides are criminal-minded.

Bottom line is APB has a cesspool of frustrating players and like HON or other MOBA games it generates the same level of expectation. Yes, friendly fire does work and should stay in the game, but the big question is WHY should it stay. That's for another thread though.

I would have enjoyed that game if it wasn't for the rampant cheating and broken shooting mechanics.

I hate to say it, but this is probably because APB is just ass-backwards terrible. One of the best examples of a good idea gone bad I can think of. Adding F2P just made it worse - even before it went free to play, you'd end up playing against people who had far better guns than you. Now it's one of the worst examples of 'free to play, pay to win' I've ever seen. I'd take no issue with this if it actually had some alternative to PVP, but PVP is the entire damn game.

People are going to rage when, for whatever reason, they've decided to play such a bad game.
