Yeah, it's another realistic modern day shooter. Seems childish to me.

I know that as an adult, I really like to have some entertainment where I can just shut my brain off and enjoy it.
I take umbrage with that remark. Always. [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/columns/moviebob/8938-MovieBob-About-Critics-Part-II.2]

brainless things are okay as long as they're not so successful that they prevent thoughtful and more ARTISTICALLY IMPORTANT games from being made.

Brainless crap being successful promotes MORE brainless crap being made, and sophisticated, intelligent, thought-provoking things won't.

The Numbers [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/the-big-picture/3281-The-Numbers] speak for themselves.

Children love playing any shooting game, hell so do adults. I don't know if this is just another attempt at bashing CoD, but it sure doesn't work.

Not to sound like COD defense force, but this article is nothing but conjecture really. The author's only source for "kids loving COD" is a very limited sample of two incidents he happened to observe, and then goes to posit several reasons which they themselves are limited to his own hypotheses. It's a pretty weak article... I'm surprised it could get published on a site like Destructiod... this is something that you probably wouldn't even find on Kotaku.

Sounds right. Real man play BFBC2
Hehe, the stereotypical BF fan who thinks his slightly less popular dime a dozen SOREALSTIC modern shooter is better than that slightly more popular dime a dozen SOREALSTIC modern shooter. It's like something out of a textbook.

My friend in his 40's says he likes it because you can play for a couple of minutes here and there and put it down without getting too involved in it.
So basically it's a casual game that only appeals to casual gamers?

Although I know that adults play the game, I have to say that a lot of children do play it. Working in retail selling video games, majority of the people who come in to buy CoD are children.

Well by now it's just silly in how over the top action heavy and dramatic it tries to be. The storyline could be amazing if it went into Red Alert territory and made fun of itself but as it is now, it's just silly. It's badass for the sake of being badass, soldiers are heroes because they have big guns and it's loud and explodes a lot. It's not aimed as a childrens game, but it's basically like manhunt, nobody but 13-year old puberty-heavy teens are really into this kind of silly badassness.
I'm generalizing for the sense of making a statement here, I myself liked playing Call of Duty 4 and Modern Warfare 2 was...alright. World At War was just as over the top and dramatic as 6. It's hard to express it without stealing arguments from Yahtzee for example, but basically it's that. Too badass to be considered serious for anyone but puberty-hitting teens.

Yes yes it is. Either that or a lot of girls play COD. Most games I get into have some little dip shit yelling at his team because he died and the whole time he is bitching I can only think...is that a boy who hasn't hit puberty or a really PMSy girl... Then I ask them and I usually get called a fuck face or something.

Well, according to ESRB and the Fox, all video games for children. This is why a game with 5 seconds of ass gets rated M and yelled at by news stations, while a movie with the same subject matter gets rated PG or PG-13 and is not yelled at all.

I'm not sure, all I know is I played World at War and loved it, it was a lot of fun. And MW2, and hated it (except the co-op) and Black Ops ....it was ...okay at best.

so all of sudden were back to saying video games are child's play? I'm confused i thought you people wanted video games to be treated equally like T.V., Books, Music, Movies, etc...

Kids like video games. Big deal, so CoD is a shooter that is basic and fun. When I was a kid we had Contra and if anyone says that Contra wasn't a shooter that was basic and fun, that person is a troll.

no, the argument still stands. There are TV, books, music movies, etc. that are fun for children.

There are some video games that are fun for children and some video games that children would find less than thrilling, but adults just adore.
