I don't know whether I should love or hate the people who made this. If they intended it as a joke it's pretty funny, otherwise it's just.. sad. So very sad.

Did anybody else think of that game Yahtzee mentioned in that podcast they just did?

The Great Giana Sisters
Oddly enough, The Great Giana Sisters was my first thought as well, although I first heard about it somewhere far removed from this site. I'm not sure where, though; I'm guessing either Gamefaqs, Dorkly, or Cracked.

It's not ripping off Apple or being "indecent", so they don't care. Just more money for them.
That was pretty much my thoughts on this.

I just hope Nintendo can take some kind of successful action against Apple. Those pricks whine and cry when Amazon uses a generic term like "app store", but they're fine with allowing people to buy a game that could only be a more blatant ripoff of an established IP if it was called "THIS GAME IS A BLATANT RIPOFF OF NINTENDO'S SUPER MARIO BROTHERS!"

Kiss my ass, Apple.

As expected, Monino has already been removed from the App Store, but how does something like this get through in the first place?
And here I am thinking this is Apples way of glove-slapping Nintendo. I still fully expect Apple to show up at E3 with a dedicated gaming console (the iPlay) dedicated handheld console (iPlayNgo) and the concept for a much more portable gaming platform to be released 2 - 6 months after the two mentioned previously (the iPlayNgoMini)

Wahah this happens with Asian Snacks all the time. I can't think of many at the moment, but they like, change a single letter or make a sound-alike and the product is essentially the same

Seriously which asshole of a programmer can just sit there and make shit like this?
I'm somewhat of a developer and I don't think I could live with myself If I sold off something like this.

Sure I might make a Mario Rip-off for fun but there's no way I'd try to make any money off of it. Original content isn't THAT hard to do anyway, if this guy can rip-off most of Mario then adding a new enemy type or obstacle would be a piece of cake.

Edit:

Wait I never thought to check whether he was actually charging for this app. This was still a much needed rant for people that do make money off rip-offs though.

If it's a free game then it's Nintendo's problem :3

Oh no, a news story has been posted and now Nintendo's lawyers have a whiff of blood. Everyone run for your life!

I think someone wasn't quiet on the ball with that one. I understand how it might happen with the large volume of games they go through but that's a pretty bad miss there.

I love how Mario and the Goombas are radically different resolutions in the second screenshot because the sprites were obviously ripped from different games XD

Wow, it's just like when Disney ripped off Kimba the White Lion!

Only it's Nintendo being ripped off, and not the awesome ************ that made Black Jack and Astro Boy.

really?

a rip off?

more like fangame

(seriously, Mario Forever? heard of it?)

other than that, I won't be getting it, since I don't have any apple product
Except people usually don't try to SELL these fangames.
Basically this. Selling fangames is illegal, even if you dont claim the rights to said games original iirc.
Hell, apparently even making fangames is sometimes illegal...

sooo, after Nintendo sends Apple the formal Cease and Desist Letter, I wonder if they'll try to get the people who paid for the game delete it.

They are making money from it.
The sprites have enough resemblance to mario and the music is ripped straight from mario.
Yeah, Fangame indeed.

This isn't the first time apple did shit like this.
Before this it happened to Lugaru.
