Yes, that is what is being said. It's not possible to run directx10 on XP without severe performance drop.

This thread wasn't really about the OS and the differences between them. It's about business practices, and how Apple isn't made to face up to it like other corparations.

(The fact they made a really poor OS and don't offer good support is just a coincidence)

On an off note i like how Windows finnaly sunk down to the same level as Apple
by making these im a PC ads

Both ad campaigns are annoying and windows has vista which is epic snail and rejects everything under the sun
and OSX blows too both current systems are not doing too well right now

I hate apple cause 90% of the cost of their product is the brand. I can do a lot more on a linux rig with a few less restrictions, and I'll have more control over what I can run and It'll look like what I think looks good. Windows only survives because all games are exclusive to it (ignoring consoles) why Apple survives is way beyond me.
I tried Linux out for awhile and didn't like it. It was just too damn complicated to get anything to run right. Windows, IMHO, is the happy middle ground between OSX and Linux.

DX10 being Vista-only compatible is due to XP's poor display driver implementation. Jeez, there are much better examples of Microsoft doing something like that...Just like every other company out there.
wrong they made dx10 vista only so they would force gamers to upgrade to vista, it backfired as most developers are NOT developing dx10 games, yes some have but they look just about the same as they do on dx 9 so there's no point in spending the forced upgrade to vista a frame or two with more expensive hardware

And why do so many of you gamers talk about computers as if you actually know anything about them? Fondling your WASD keys doesn't make you an IT scholar (not that I'm one either).
cause frankly i DO know something about them

as for the topic on hand, apple is famous for charging a LOT more for a computer that does less than a computer at half the cost using windows or linux

Meh its fair to a point.

Apples business model seems to be about offering the complete package, hardware, OS and software so that it all "just works" as one of those adds says. So I can kind of understand why they don't like third party apps on the iphone and seeing as they built the hardware and the software for it you can't say they are anti competitive.

Microsoft just gives you an OS, a PC will run numerous other OS like Linux quite happily. They make software as well but its generally shit and as long as Office sells well I don't think they care too much about everyone using FF instead of IE.

Hmm think I might have to edit this post tomorrow. I'm damn tired and not sure if any of that makes sense.

Urgh, I want to keep this on topic but I need to correct things. The reason no DX10 game looks significantly different is because no developer can build a game from the ground up dx10, and dx10 only and hope to make a profit.

However it should allow for some good things in the future, with dx11 on the way and it being completely backwards compatible with dx10 hardware we might see something done.

Also : Zac_Dai. If Microsoft bundled good software into the OS they'd be accused of being anti competitive.

Hello Windows Media player.

People do end up being in it for money. You think the employees of places like Firefox are unpaid?

All I am saying is why do people hate apple? Yeah Bill Gates is great made the best operating system, gave away billions of dollars. Apple made the first PC, they made the iPod which I'm sure every bashes but almost everyone has. All I say is why do people hate apple?
I'm pretty sure its not that we hate apple its that we hate the people who use mac's
they always seem to think they're better than pc users.
also my personal hatred of apple comes from its attack ads. And the problem is uneducated people take them as truth which annoys me on a personal basis (I work in a tech shop and get asked alot stuipid questions all the time)

They get attacked for their tactics, whereas Apple don't.

I'm not trying to put forward the notion that Microsoft's business policy's are better.
Well when Apple start dominating the home computer market significantly, I'm sure they will be attacked for their business practices.

Why do you think Apple aren't at the moment? Maybe its because no one cares? [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tall_poppy_syndrome]

I hate Apple because, and quite frankly, Macs suck. I went through 3 in high school. They would always lock up while booting up, the passwords to log onto would constantly auto reset, they'd lock up, time out, and crash while using programs they were apparently built solely to run. Not to mention it would constantly crash while saving documents meaning the videos I had been working on were lost, it would crash while loading a program, it would crash while not even being touched. It would constantly save files in the wrong area and make them inaccessible, it would "misplace" saved files- LOOK THEY JUST SUCK!
I wonder what mac you were using or perhaps what you did to it! I've used my G5 for about two and a half years, nearly every single day, with it crashing very few times. We have a decent(ish) pc which has crashed more times in a year than my mac has.

I like apple, I'm on a Mac right now. There is nothing wrong with them, sure they can't run everything; if you want to do some windows game just boot up the old XP or Vista partition. The OS does not suck and saying that it cant run things before OSX, why don'i you go play Spore on Windows 98?If it would even work. I never got why people don't like apples, I ask people I know and they just say "they suck" and then i ask "why" and they always say "because they suck" i don't know where all the hate for apple comes from. Maybe I'll start a "Why all the hate on Apple" thread. :p
PS I would call Microsoft pretty good competition for apple.
Agreed, and I'm on a mac right now too. And I don't play a lot of games on my computer anyway, I get all my games on the PS3

Its easy not to crash when only using first party software.
