If someone posted an app that claimed to cure the disease that is religion it would be national news.

If someone posted an app that claims you can cure the disease of being black it would be national news

If someone posts and app that can cure you from the disease of being gay it should be protected by free speech?

I do not like double standards especially when applied to large groups of people.

If this app was removed, I expect shortly to see all apps involving anything gay or lesbian be removed as well. Equality is the name of the game.

People need to realize that freedom of speech only extends to anything not "obscene" or infringing on the rights of others. You can't just spew bigotry and expect to be protected. Good on Apple for removing this.

People who made this application in the first place are jerks. That's pretty much what I get out of it.

You should be expecting the removal of all apps trying CURE religion.
They didn't remove an app because it's religious, they removed it because it's hateful.

and while I agree with you, freedom of speech is not a valid argument in this situation as Apple is NOT the government.

This app promotes hate or intolerance towards gays, as in saying it's something you can be cured of. Those pro-gay apps do not promote any sort of hate nor to they attack those fundamentalist 16th century school of though churches.

That's what's wrong with it... not what the owners or creators think! Free speech FTW.

I'd hardly call an app trying to cure "the gay" hateful. If they aren't trying to force it on anyone, I see no problem. Would you call an app saying how great it is to be gay and everyone should try it "hateful"?

How does someone believing gay can be cured, promote hate? I'm pretty sure it doesn't. You can believe Stalin was right and keep it to yourself, and it's not spreading hate just because you believe it.

I don't think there's anything wrong with this app. If you don't like it, don't use it. I'm not saying I agree with it. In fact, I disagree with it. But people should have the right to believe what they want.
Like all Jewish people should be exterminated? Like all Muslim's are terrorists? Like all black people should be slaves?

Belief an be an extremely powerful thing, so no, I don't think ignorant beliefs should be tolerated.
I hear that quite a bit now, but no one seems able to define an "ignorant belief" to me. Why is it that, for example, your view is fine, but another view is "ignorant" and thus not tolerated?
An ignorant belief would be one wherein you hold a belief against the evidence or with no evidence, for example, all Muslims are terrorists, or it's wrong to be gay, respectively.

No it's not, it's the most unsilly thing in the world. Apple exists to make money, if people aren't buying Apple products because they're offended by Apple policies, then Apple is not making money.

Businesses need to stop bending over backward for overreaction but hurt sentiment.
Do I agree with the people that developed the App? No
But if we look at it in a non religious fashion....
Perhaps their are people who genuinely don't want to be gay but were "born" that way. Don't they deserve a chance?

When 140,000 people say they want to see the removal of your app that's been up for around a month...

...Eh, you've got a problem.

Simple.

My views are not saying someone should suffer agony for eternity for daring to love someone with the same chromosomes. My views do not spout hate on others simply for being different from me, even when they aren't hurting someone.

If I claimed black people were a "disease" (not that I'd so much as consider it) I'd receive death threats. Homosexuality is pretty much the only area left in the world where it is accepted to be intolerant of it. Despite the fact that it hasn't actually caused any harm to anyone.

If those apps say that being straight is wrong, then yes.

If you're trying to cure something, you're saying there's something wrong with it and it should be removed. Although that doesn't necessarily imply hate, given the context of this being a Christian group, I think it's fair to say it probably is hate.

Is there an 'app' to cure christianity/stupidity too? I'd imagine this fellow wouldn't be very pleased if there was.
Yes because clearly having an interest in religion or spirituality is a disease. Seriously, grow up.

Not a fan of censoring this thing, ridiculous bigotry as it shows.

Is it an utterly pathetic and backwards expression of some sorry view that there could ever be anything wrong with something as utterly harmless as homosexuality? It certainly is.

Is it an expression of a scientifically unsupported and just utterly hopeless conception that ingrained character traits could even be "cured"? Yes to that as well.

The way to engage such backwards views - which aren't hard to refute and ridicule - is to let them come to the surface though, rather than remain under the slimy rock they were born from, then mercilessly tear into them with logic and the equally strong conviction that homosexuality is entirely natural and ethically unproblematic.

Only when they speak up can their words be struck down.
