Apple is now richer than America

Basically Apple now have more reserve cash to spend than the USA:

Apple cash balance: $76.4 billion
USA cash balance: $73.7 billion
My cash balance: $ -19,000 (Damn you student loans!)


So what is Apple going to do with all that cash? What would you do with all that cash? They have enough to give every single person in the United States a quarter of a million dollars each, or give me $76.4 billion (fingers crossed!) In the article it called it a 'war chest' to aquire rival companies and patents.
It's pretty impressive, and slightly worrying that they could theoretically buy America, forcing everyone to wear white clothes with large Apple logos on them. They could take over from NASA! announcing The ishuttle. Half the features of a regular shuttle, but it's all controlled by one button, and has a nice shiny Apple logo on the back!

Just think, if the world ended tomorrow what a waste of money that would be.

What can I say?

Selling crap made from milk cartons, string, and a packet of mints, for hundreds of pounds a time, can make you a lot of money.

Especially if you sell a 'new model' of a it every six months.

And people fall for it, so I don't really blame Apple for taking advantage of the gullible masses.

It would be nice to see someone actually aim to make a positive change in the world instead of just hoarding money. All of it is worth absolutely nothing once your gone. Why not leave behind a legacy people will remember you fondly for? Go spend a few bil on rebuilding poor countries.

You've factored in your own student loan into this equation, but what about America's loans? Everyone reading this thread is probably richer than the USA given that they have the highest debt in the world.

We're (the US) is in debt by what, over a trillion USD? And Apple has $76.4 billion USD, and is not in debt, so yeah naturally they'd be richer than the US.

But seriously, like everyone said, basically anyone without debt to pay is much farther in the black than America is right now. Also, I've never heard of Steve Jobs or his Megacorp giving anything to anyone. Ever.

Feel free to prove me wrong, but that's basically why the only Apple Device I will ever buy is the iPhone, and as soon as all my apps have Android equivalents I'm ditching that too. It always makes me laugh how Bill one-upped Jobs by actually making a difference. Not sure if I fan say the same about the current MS CEO.

What will Apple do indeed... my guess: release more shiny objects as usual. I hope they come up with something as interesting as the iphone was when it first entered the market because every time Apple pitches an innovative product, a host of other companies make better models with more features.
