Fancy adverts and stripped down versions of already existing products does not a profitable console make (although the Wii seems to have proved me categorically wrong on that point).

Not really, the Wii has one phenomenal innovation in the form of effective and intuitive motion controls. It's not exactly what we 'hardcore' gamers want but it is something new.

I wonder though what sort of "amazing" innovations Apple would apply to their console. Maybe it will fit into a manila envelope, have a controller that is also an iPod, and have an Apple Logo on it. That last one is all it really needs to make a profit I guess.

Hell nawh. I mean, sure the iPod was great but then they developed Mac and the iPad.

Uh, first Mac was in 1984, it's a lot older than the 2001 iPod.

Given that Macs generally cost twice what PCs do, I wouldn't pay £500 for a console although I wouldn't pay £200 either.

And what would you play on it? Would it have a similar range of games to the stunning selection available for the Mac?

I could see them doing some sort of streaming media device that plugs into the TV and also supports the app store. Something like Natal would seem aligned with their "touch" user interface. It would mostly suck for games but many games journalists would cream their pants over it anyway as there are many mactards amongst their number. Might be the odd surprise like John Carmack declaring some support for it like he does with Apple every now and again.

So if this were true, would you consider buying a console from Apple? And how much would you pay for it? How much would it cost (considering Apple products tend to be quite expensive)

Not to sound obnoxious and pretentious, but I wouldn't just because it's Apple. I find that they're just trying too hard to get everyone interested in them and to come off as trendy. I hate the naming style, deciding to put an "i" in front of what it is. I hate the business plan that seems to be out to rip people off as much as possible. I basically hate Apple and anti-consumer it appears to be.

I'd actually like them to do it. If they are trying to appeal to the gamer demographic, they're going to have to start hitting up considerably cheaper merchandise. As I hate Microsoft but love gaming, I have no real direction to take with hardware(yes, nintendo and PS3 exist, but a mac console would lead to more support for mac gaming in general, and potentially gaming macbooks, which would be awesome).

Down the track you might even be able to get a gaming mac laptop/desktop at a reasonable price (or apple would lose a whole lot of money by trying to treat gamers the same as the sheep who buy ipods/phones, either way I'm happy).

I'm competely prepared to lay down money on iWastedmymoney, I actually have an iPhone because I have more money then sense (seriously, I call mine an ehPhone, because as a phone its underwhelming).

Also the Apple gaming platform will use a revolutionary control method of waving your hands when you talk to control your character.

To start the game you have to say "it just works" *waves hands*, or "I'm so happy with this purchase" *waves hands*

Apple has tried this before. It did not go well. I doubt they are willing to risk such a thing again.

Plus, with the addition of Steam now, it makes even less sense. They are just starting to get into the computer gaming business again, why would they try and tackle consoles?

I would not buy it. Probably because it would make the PS3 seem as complex as a toothbrush, therefore ensuring that nobody will develop for it.

but you cant play any game on a mac from steam...you have no right click...except for like..1 mouse..where you have to go into the settings and change it..and BLAH BLAH BLAH....and knowing it will have an apple sign on it...+jobs raging that there cant be any porn...it will most likely be......about as powerful as a gamecube and cost as much as a PS3....on Ebay... -_- yeah...no i hate Mac's ...cept ipods...only thing they make right
