I'd rather get an iPhone, and even that's a stretch because of Apple's love for AT&T. I want Verizon, goddammit.

I'd rather wait for a color version of Kindle. Only cool thing for me is the solid-state drive; but definitely not a big draw for an oversized iPhone

[The iPad is] way better than a laptop
That made me laugh. $700 for a "iPad" with 64GB memory and a 9.7 inch screen. Yeah, that is WAY better for playing games and watching movies that a laptop. My laptop isn't even designed to play games and is better than that, and it was only $460 (after tax). I guess he must mean games as in "apps" that are games like off the itunes store.

I was temporarily excited about this, until I realised it's not actually intended to replace a laptop or personal computer. It even says you need a machine to configure it. So what exactly is the point? It's essentially just a bigger and hence more inconvenient iPhone minus the whole phone thing.

Looks like I'll be sticking with my Macbook for a while longer.

I want to throw it like a Frisbee. There I said it.

One thing I noted was its book program, "iBook". Combine a tablet function with an electronic reader, and you get an opportunity to eliminate physical textbooks from school. Think $500 is pricey? I've easily dropped more than twice that paying for textbooks in my college career.

The iPad with its applicator makes it sounds like something women use to feel fresh and possibly go rollerskating with.

There's one thing that will stop any corporation from trying to replace their laptops/netbooks with this: the iPad cannot multitask applications (you can't have more than 1 open at a time, for example: you can't listen to your music while writing a paper or surfing the net).
You can't multitask with the iTampax, is this confirmed? I can understand why the ehPhone does that, to stop the battery from dying. But a home computer thingie.

I really need to grow up.

You know what really pushes my buttons? When people lump the iPod Touch and iPhone together and call it an iTouch. With that out of the way, the "iPad" does look rather boring. And if definitely needs a better name.

Did we slip back to the batch processing era here? Why on earth would a Tablet system (thanks for ruining Tablet PC apple) not be able to run more than one application at a time?

Once again, Apple fails at it's attempts of "iGlobal". Until it comes out with some way cheaper, iQuit Apple.

That's great xD

But yeah, I'd prefer to have a laptop that can actually do useful things and have lots of memory rather than a giant toy.

...so its a bigg"er" ipod touch...yeah...pretty dumb... i thought it would be like a tablet pc, touch screen & would come with some kind of illustrating program so you can draw/write on your comeputer...this just seems silly to me...9.7 inches...go get a 17in PC tablet for almost the same price...

Maybe it's just time that Apple needs to wake up and realize the eco-friendly, whatever-latte-downing college students of the late 90's and 00's have grown up, and demand a work computer for their real job in the real world, not a toy.

I have an iPod touch. It's great, but I don't want to pay that much for a bigger toy...

Early signs indicate it can't handle multiple applications at once. And it can't make phone calls even with the 3G version

That just makes this a comically large and ridiculously expensive iPod Touch.

Just like all first generation products from Apple, you shouldn't touch them with a 20 foot pole, they normally don't get the design right till the 4th or 5th generation.

I saw this on Joystiq earlier, and I just couldn't fathom how Jobs could even begin to think that this was a good idea.

Hi i have question me in front. How well does it run games?
It runs iPhone games in it's original format or full screen, though it will soon have iPad games exclusively built for the iPad.

It's 1GHz processor should make them be as enjoyable as on the iPhone, just bigger screen. Think of it as the DSi XL to the DS
