Are developers realizing there mistake?

Over the last few years a trend has appeared within the game industry, retro remakes and sequels.
Have developers realized there older games were the ones that boosted them to sucess and using them to help improve sales based on nostalgia? Or is it to late. Tell me what you think of this issue. here are a few examples of retro remakes and sequels.

New super mario Bros
Super mario 64 DS
Bionic commando
Populous DS
Megaman 9

Also, I don't think they're mistakes as such, retro has always been popular so why not? Not everything can be retro.

I don't think so. The majority of games, even if parts of a series, are removed from their origins. I think today's games are as good as ever anyway. I'd gladly smash my nintendo 64 for Half Life 2: Episode 3.

I think developers are realizing that retro games had good ideas that are missing from modern games. These "Modern games" are the mistakes.
