Has anyone had any success at using an employment agency?
I have been unemployed for ages and might join an employment agency but I expect they are only experienced and getting normal people jobs. I have a degree but no work experience at all* and bad/no social skills due to being a nerd.** So do you think I am beyond their capabilities?

[small]* I did do one year at BK but all I did was DA or feed burgers into the broiler after I got taken of till for being too grumpy, so its not really relevant/useful[/small]
[small]** A nerd is merely the closest word there is to describe my unique weirdness/insanity [/small]

What do you have a degree in? Yes it's probably a good idea to use an employment agency if they work in a similar way to how my employer does.

My field of work is probably fairly unique but I can say that I work for a consulting company that finds contracts and then finds people to fill them, then they pay their employee's a wage and keep the remainder. Works pretty well since they don't make money unless I'm working.

Kinda too late now but finding an internship or summer student job in your field of study would have been a lot better then working at BK. Not really a nice way to say this part but working at a place like BK is a job for high school students. The search for a job especially in this economy should start well before the end of your education so that you have applicable experience before you graduate.

I've used employment agencies in the past and when you first call they usually always ask 'what are you looking for?' Just tell them your story, not much work experience, have a degree and what jobs interest you or if they would have any recommendations. At the end of the day they will be working on your behalf so tell them what you'd like.

Although once you have called one they may go quiet on you after a week or so, so always call them and ask if they've seen anything for you on a regular basis. It seems like pestering but it keeps you in their loop.

There are also agencies that specialise in different employment sectors so if you find you want to do a certain thing, contact them as well as they will probably have more targeted clients.
