I want a post-apcolopyitc setting that the whole world is overgrown, so cities are covered in tree's, water level's are maybe higher, and deserts have expanded into cities. Imagine walking into a city overgrown with jungle flora and you have to litterally climb tree's to get into the buildings.

I want to see that.

I'm not fed up with it but it could be more varied. You can have the a bomb went off not that long ago or have our cities turned into ruins with plants and animals living there. You could even just go fantasy and have the world turning inside out or warping kind of like Nocturne.

I think people are just fed up with generic Zombie Apocalypse games, and want something more exciting and less predictable. There's many potential zombie apocalypse scenarios which haven't been applied to games. How about say, an open world survival game, with day and night cycles determining undead activity... I know something like that is in the works, but probably not in the way I'd imagine it.
What a terrible night to have a curse
Hehe, It would be kind of sweet if they redid castlevania 2 with a 3d world like the latest iteration in the series.

Yup I'm bored with the cliche post-apocalyptic setting and have been for a while. But not all games in that setting are dull and full of baron wastelands. Like Darksiders for example. It takes inspiration from the Biblical apocalypse and then goes crazy with it. So while there are a lot of areas which are obviously destroyed cities and desolate landscapes, they are filled with colour, magic, demons and fantastical structures built after the end of the world as we know it. It's so much more interested than the obligatory setting of rubble as far as the eye can see.

The genre has gotten really stale, but I still play them if the gameplay/story is good enough to keep me enthralled. The problem is how do you pick a new setting without upsetting the balance, look at for example, The change in pace ACIII has taken, from big sprawling cities with massive structures, to the tree hopping madness of the American Revolution. People are already complaining about the game and they haven't even played it.

The same will happen to any developer who tries to shift the focus of their current sequel to another locale. Severe backlash from a community content on berating the minor points rather than saying well done on X and Y. The post apocalypse setting is great for story telling as you have a basic set up, millions dead because of Disease, Terrorists, aliens etc, you're part of a small resistance refusing to lose your humanity. You know how to stop the impending doom. You become hero. Now insert characters around that and you have a game people will buy!

It's the same as movies, when was the last time you saw a movie that wasn't a remake/rehash of an older film. We've reached a point where creativity is frowned upon and the making a quick buck reigns.

On the flip side, I still buy these games and watch these movies, but I will do so through gritted, hate filled, teeth! :D

I love post-apocalyptic games. Fallout 1, 2, 3, New Vegas, and Metro 2033 all count among my favorite games. I can't wait for Metro 2034 and eventually Fallout 4.

I am.

In fact. I'm sick of dreary settings in general.
This is a good idea actually . Imagine a game where there was an appocalypse but a different kind than world is destroyed . How about an appocalypse where the world is reset kind of like a clock . The intelligent life forms remain unaffected ( animals/people) but the planet reverted to a previous state ( before civilisation). Kind of like a clean slate but with the humans of today .

I still want to see a pre-apocalyptic game where you see the post-apocalyptic happen.

i like the post doomsday. i would like to see one that isn't all grey thou
well after the bombs drop there's not much color expect for brown and grey. And why does everyone strap every metal pot on their body and consider that to be armor/fashion

They also needs better storyline telling and a better storyline
oh hey, zero punctuation watcher.

i believe that line is from 'The RAGE Review'.
