Fucken seriously are they? Cause with e3 it seems like some really dumbass people have wormed their way out of the woodwork.

We have people pledging to buy the last night, not because it looks good, but because it will make Zoe Quinn mad.

We have people complaining about killing nazies in the new wolfenstein.

We have people bitching about Life is Strange for existing and apparently being the dreaded sjw.

What the fuck. I thought we got past all this retarded bullshit?
Like nearly everyone else is saying, it's just people being plain stupid; instead of gamers. I tell you what my great-granddad told me: "See a fool, leave a fool.".

Generally speaking, sarcastic troll-y posts don't go down well around here. Surely you've been around long enough to know that? Even with the complete radical overhaul of Da Rulez, that's pretty much remained consistent. More or less.

In regards to the last sentence, nah, in fact, anti-"SJWs" and anti-feminists in general have just been getting louder and louder in the past three or four years, and apparently a not-insignificant number of them also happen to be really into video games. So that's great.

And it's definitely not exclusive to gamers, it just manifests in some particularly blinkered ways in gamers. With otherwise-standard alt-rightists, you tend to have things like them claiming that men who have been raped should be glad because at least they got sex, women are getting too uppity so they need to have all of their rights removed, women are going to regret being progressive because soon they'll all be getting raped by the immigrants they've let into their countries (related: somehow women rule over everything, despite men being in the predominant positions of power in most countries), etc. etc.

No. People in general, on the other hand... People need to stop overreacting to stupid shit and blowing things out of proportion. From getting angry because women are watching wonder woman to saying that everything is racist/sexist/whatever-ist. Being from the third world, I've been watching this insanity happen in other countries for a few years now, and it's finally here. We even have the anti-vaccine guys.

I mean, its a self depreciating joke implying that as a gamer, I have indeed gotten dumber. And it was flagged for 'being rude to other users' not trolling, so yeah. Humourless mods.

On the plus side, this post puts my post count at 1337. So I can retire peacefully knowing 13 year old me would have been proud, in protest, I guess?

See, I get it, but the mods have had to explain this exact sort of situation many times in the past; they can't read the intention behind your post, and there are many, many, many, [HEADING=2]many[/HEADING] people on the internet who say that sort of thing completely seriously (and without any self-awareness). They can't really just assume you're joking, and "just joking" isn't a great excuse since people who aren't use it as one anyway.

On the plus side, this post puts my post count at 1337. So I can retire peacefully knowing 13 year old me would have been proud, in protest, I guess?
Always end on a high note. It'll almost certainly be better than whatever happened to me.

To be fair its E3, and everything involved with E3 is terrible. Its just a bunch of bloggers spending way too much time getting free gifts from corporate PR people to write praising sloppy make-out pieces about beta footage for games that will inevitably fail to live up to the hype.

I wouldn't worry too much about outrage culture there.

I don't know if people are getting stupider, or the stupid people are just getting louder.

It doesn't help that trumps election has made them bolder.

The latter, almost assuredly. With the advent of the internet and social media it is easier then ever before for anyone and everyone to spread their opinions about things. Before the internet you still needed to go through some form of media to get heard; a newspaper, radio show, TV show or social gathering. It was hard to get yourself noticed back then, especially if your merits was nothing more then "I have a really strong opinion". Today everyone can make themselves heard, just consider how many people on this forum you'd be in touch with if the internet and open internet forums weren't a thing and we'd all have to make contact via old school paper mail.

So no, we are probably as dumb as we've always been collectively. Today we just hear a lot more of the idiocy then we did just a decade ago.

Well, anyone ranting about the rights of our Acceptable Targets IS an idiot, but they're not specifically gamers. Remember that politicias, for instance, say all kinds of stupid things in relation to matters that they are uneducated in, like the internet.

At any rate, I object to the use of 'stupider'. It's not a proper word.

We have people pledging not to buy The Last Night, not because it's not good, but because it made Zoe Quinn mad.

We have people lying about people complaining about killing nazis in the new Wolfenstein.

We have people... didn't Life is Strange come out years ago

Fabricated controversies, cultlike groupthink, people speaking without being informed. "Over this"? We're just getting started. Polarization in the information age is apparently humanity's new tendency.

Hey out of curiousity, did you actually see the asshat responses in question or are you just repeating what you were told.

And if you did, what exactly was it about them that was asshat? Trying to discern whether your dislike of them is purely ideological or rooted in a more reasonable thought process.

(edit: less loaded questions)

Not anymore. Now they also sell tickets to public. Yeah, great freaking improvement...

In terms of pure brain power, people are getting smarter. In terms of wisdom or applied knowledge, things are moving rapidly in the wrong direction.

We're at a point now where Reading, Writing and Arithmetic need to be joined by "Critical Thinking" on grade school curriculums, because there's a raging storm of information out there at the fingertips of budding young minds, and separating signal from noise has never been more important. The number of extremely intelligent people posting HERE that are taken in by the most transparent Poes and overt fabrications has been and continues to be startling, and some of us didn't exactly "grow up" with the internet.

The kind of hyper partisanship and selective interpretation of reality you're seeing daily is the sort of thing that tends to end in wars, so while it might seem like a lot of hand wringing over a generation lost to Pepe memes and misspelled words, the end game is actually a bit more serious than it might at first appear.

I think its also to do with people feeling the need to include themselves in everything and this is were the FOMO (fear of missing out) comes in. They "need" to feel included. They "need" to feel angry. They "need" to shout about something and "need" to show others they care but many don't. You dont win points or get a special badge because you took 5 mins out of your day because someone somewhere is doing something equally stupid. People mistaken wants for needs. You don't need to be angry. You just want to be angry for whatever reason.

Im just done with the sheep like mentally. We all can make up our own minds but some of us just wish to follow the crowd just to feel some validation and acceptance.

Overall, humans be weird and often stupid.

"I've seen feminist want artifical wombs so they can grow babies and continue drinking and smoking"

He also wanted to put Vivian James in it, because obviously (she has to be the one good female character in the game)

Who knows, maybe he's become less of a twat in 3 years
A game with "progressive, feminist villains" could be perfectly cool. Claire Underwood is an important and groundbreaking female character, every bit as much so as Wonder Woman.

The language being employed here suggests the individual in question was less concerned with writing interesting, offbeat villains and storylines than being 3 edgy 5 me, sadly.

Those idiots pledging to buy Last Night to piss off ZQ apparently didn't realize that the developer of that game actually apologized for his tweets years ago and said that he no longer feels the way he did back then.
