I'm not saying some games aren't worth $59, but most just aren't.
This.
I'll gladly pay 100? for a good game, but most of what has been offered in the last years isn't worth even 5?...

I would say that games are too expensive and that's because it's a relatively tight market. If there were as many people who bought games as there are who buy dvds, I think the price would be much lower (and the quality much higher). But at this point, even if the market expands drastically (which it isn't likely to do at those prices), we're not going to see prices go down for anything. Gamers have proved they're willing to pay anything just for the prospect of owning who knows what.

All the mainstream stuff will go $20 or lower if you just leave it be for a while. Who here honestly feels like they have played all the past great games already? If you haven't, then why get the new ones right as they come out?

The only game I have bought for over $50 recently is an import that is likely to run out at some point and might not get a reprint.

$60 for the game
$10 for map pack one
$10 for map pack two
and i hear there's another map pack coming out this saturday
so theres another $10.

so for one game that i only want for the multiplayer is gonna cost me $90 USD.

I personally don't like to spend too much more than 20 AUD on a game. So i normally buy them off ebay a year or more after they've come out. If they were significantly cheaper, i probably would by them as new releases. So i guess personally i wouldn't mind games being generally cheaper. Hpwever, this particular thought has cropped up in my mind on this issue. The average new release film is 30 AUD, and the average new release game is very roughly 100 AUD. So if you hypothetically buy a good game and a good film, would you feel that you've had three times the quantity of enjoyment (not necessarily the quality) from the game then that of the film. I guess the thing is that most games do last longer than the average film, and they are just as expensive to make.

Well as a man not drowning in money I have to admit it can prove difficult sometimes to make a monopoly on games. Even the cheapest cost a lot by most standards but I wouldn't say too expensive as a game with a great amount of content should be expected to fetch a large sum of money.

I just ordered the orange box for 15 euros, shipping included.

Games aren't too expensive, if you care to look around.

Are they too expensive? Probably not.
Will I buy them at full price? Definately not

in a word.... yes

take movies for example, the most you have to pay to own one is about 20 $ , invariably.
they also cost much more make (in some movies the actors alone cost more then the budget of a "big" game)

so why should a game which costs less to make , and requires more of an beginnning investment to play cost 3 times more ?

well, i cant actually afford a 7th generation console, so i have no idea how much the games on those cost.

i tend to go with free games though. chess online, aq worlds, erepublic, dme... those about cover it.

...i wish i could get a job. stupid living in isolation...
Fixed.

And yes, they are. Because of a person being a total *****, I can't buy any games anymore, and I can only either trade them with other people, or resort to other, shadier methods (and I have a shitty PC...)

Games are a luxury entertainment good - of course they are kind of expensive, but compare the cost per hour of entertainment that games provide to other luxury entertainment goods and they are pretty cost effective; some of my favorite games must be easily less than 1$ per hour of entertainment. So I'd say no, that's pretty cheap entertainment.

They are, if you are a cheap bastard.
Or if you're working your ass off everyday to pay for college and have hardly enough money to pay the internet bills. Don't jump to conclsions.

They're relatively cheap, bearing in mind that people will pay £6 for a ticket to see an hour and a half long film then spend a tenner on a 20 hour long game.

Usually I'll only spend 60 bucks on one game per year. I don't like paying that much for games. Probably because I'm in college right now and I'm also unemployed...

I usually wait for them to go down in price.

But that was when I actually [b/]paid[/b] for my games. Now, the website I work for pays for them

It all depends on the game. I play Perfect World International on my PC, and its free. I chose to shell out $10 for some stuff, and will probably do that again too.

I'm buying the Deluxe pack of Demon's Souls even though I already imported it because its an awesome game. And because the announcement that it was coming to NA was made about 3 days after I broke down and finally ordered it from a website that won't let you cancel your damn order...

Then there are games like Noby Noby Boy which, while really cheap, are not worth any amount of your time or money.

As for the average game like Infamous that I'd only play for a day or two and then be done with, they hardly merit the price of a rental let alone $50 on average. Of course some people who have played it, and are still playing it will disagree.

I find that the longer I end up playing a game the more I'd pay for it. Littlebigplanet is a great example.
