Are HD remakes a bit much?

I'd only buy them if I didn't play the original or no longer have the original game (like Halo: Combat Evolved). The graphics are a plus, but if the pricing is way higher than the original and doesn't offer much more than a graphical update I won't get it.

I'm perfectly fine with HD remakes. No one forces you to buy them and remastering old games with blurry textures makes them more accessible for newer generations. If it's a game I really loved a lot on the PS2 I will probably buy that game again for the joy of playing it with spiffy graphics and possibly better frame-rate.

I also look forward to play games I missed out on but discovered like 5 years later when they are out of print.

Hd remakes don't interest me in the slightest , i will not buy them id i have and/or played the original , i don't buy games for graphics , i buy for gameplay . I prefer the FF4 on game boy andvanced to FF 4 on the DS . After buying the ds AND the GBA versions , ( while owning the original FF2 that game out in america a long time ago ) i decided never to buy an remake with improved graphics , especially if it already own it .

I do wonder , how many people actually buy HD remakes ? And how much remaking games costs in a whole . I doubt that all these remakes break even . But thays just my speculation i really don't know .

Well the normally the reason most of these games are being remade IS because of the good gameplay.
Some games on older consoles still had amazing gameplay obviously, so why not be able to play them again just with better graphics? Seems like win/win to me.

it depends on time or content
if its a game from SNES downwards era I'll probably buy it, anything above that I'll look at but probably won't buy UNLESS they add something, like updated current gen graphics not just HD when the graphics get an overhaul I'll look for reviews and decide upon that.
If they add gameplay elements (REsident Evil GCN, MegaMan X Maverick Hunter, Persona 3 Portable) I'll buy them without giving it a 2nd thought.
If its the same game with some minor additions (Chrono Trigger NDS, Zelda OoT 3DS, Starfox 64 3DS) I won't even bother looking at them until they get a substantial price drop. Don't throw P3P didn't add anything getting to play as a chick was a whole new way to play the game, plus I never played FES

as for the upcoming FFX if they throw in, even if its the regular version of FF X-2 I'll buy it just because of that awesome battle system. SE finally perfected the ATB and then went on and abandoned it, why do they always ruin good things :(

Are we talking about HD re-releases? Like the Ico and Shadow of the Colossus, Resident Evil, Silent Hill and Metal Gear solid "HD" collections coming out? Or do you mean legit remakes more like Halo: Anniversary coming out and the old Resident Evil remake for Gamecube? The Latter is cool, the former is honestly kind of lame. I love Silent Hill 2 and 3, but as many people have said in the past, the games are just as high in quality on the PC as they will ever be. Resident Evil HD collections just seem like a rip off. Resident Evil 4 is only 5 years old and has been released on everything under the sun except Xbox consoles and the PS3, so maybe for 360 owners its a good deal. The Code Veronica game is a bit dumb. I honestly prefer RE4 to Code Veronica as RE4 didn't really need a graphics uphaul... But Code Veronica had Dreamcast graphics. Putting it in "HD" really just makes it easier to see how ugly it looks. The Team Ico HD collection is a cool deal, but as with the RE games it feels like Sony's just taking us for more money like they have with the Prince of Persia HD Collection, Sly Cooper, God of War, etc... They could have just, you know, left in backwards compatibility and essentially accomplished the same thing. I'm picking it up because I have never played the games before (I know, I'm already ashamed) but if PS3 was still Backwards compatible I probably would have just picked up the games by now and played them for less than the $40 this will cost me. Trophy support is a plus, but not a seller.

Now actually REMAKES with actually updated graphics and not "We made this game look less grainy" are a whole different story. Playing Halo: CE with Reach's graphic engine is cool. Playing RE for the gamecube was awesome. THESE are the kind of re-releases I can get behind. There are some cases where HD re-releases is good, like the MGS one is good for 360 owners and those who don't on a PSP. The Silent Hill HD collection is good for 360 owners who want to play SH3 on the 360. I have more of a problem with HD collections like God of War and Team Ico where it really just feels like they're gutting us for money, as all those games are playable on PS2 and if they just kept in backwards compatibility it wouldn't have been an issue. At least in the Halo Remake's case it's completely optional and you can still choose to pick up the original game and play it on your 360, and you don't feel like you're being forced to but the remake if you want to play Halo with better graphics.

All in all, it was a cool idea back when they remade games that looked bad in todays standards, its a lame cash in when they take a game and make it look "newer".

Making the archives of older titles available is important to any form of media. You wouldn't say that "Silence of the Lambs" shouldn't see a DVD release because its already on VHS.

Given that games have the inherit disadvantage of their visual quality being directly proportional to the technology avaliable at the time of their genesis, HD remakes are great regardless of the age of the game. Remaking a great game, even from the previous generation, will not only help contribute to its timelessness, but as well as allowing more people to play it.

Ico is a perfect example. It's a great game, but it's a FUCKING ***** to find. Thus, an HD remake is perfect. Not only will it help ensure it will still look decent in 10 years, but it will let tons of other people play it who not only didn't get a chance to when it was new, but actively WANT to play it but simply cannot find a copy.

I like it. It doesn't cost a lot of time or money and it's great fanservice for the people that are into the franchise or missed it the first time around. For example, it turned me onto God or War.
Still, it shouldn't even have to be in HD, I'd buy a lot of remixes just to have them playable on the new consoles.
There, I supported you, now will you give me a damn SW:BF2 HD re-release???

I bought boulderdash hd on xbl but it was an entirely different game. It had the original on it aswell which was cool.

No, i wont buy a straight remake of a classic with tarted up graphics. Graphics mean nothing to me, i'm all about the gameplay.
