Being somewhat of a misanthrope myself, I don't believe humans are inherently evil, they are indifferent and awful.

Robert E. Howard said that 'barbarism was the natural state of humanity' and civilization was a thin, gossamer veil. Killing in videogames is generally just trying to survive against enemies, as is barbarism.

Also, when somebody is murdered on the news, being a cold bastard, I don't particularly care. People die anyway. We're dying as soon as we are concieved. It's simply speeding up an inevitable process.
I can sort of agree with this. I think when someone goes around raping or something mentally damaging then that's evil. The psyche is what a person is, we're all the same otherwise. Destroy that and you've reached what I consider "evil".

No human is born being inherently nice guy or inherently dickwad. It all depends on a combination of one's experiences (which form personal philosophy), current emotional state, and outside factors. They can combine to make one nicest person ever or a total jerk.

[HEADING=1]Postscriptum. I stated an opinion differing from yours. Flame on![/HEADING]

Following what people said thus far:

personal experiences, constraints, curiosity, inherent selfishness and general idiocy are the things that leaded to wars, rapes, tortures, mass extinctions, home violence, school violence, authority abusals, cannibalisms, genocides and slavery.

these say otherwise:

Hang on, the hypothetical you are suggesting involves making human decision making unnatural. Taking out fear is removing a massive part of human choice. I wouldn't say that makes us inherently evil, instead I'd say you are evil for messing with the poor hypothetical humans.

You are the demons.

Even though 'Evil' is a poorly defined term, I can confidently say no, humans are not inherently evil.

However, humans ARE selfish, and even the best of us have a slew of mental problems; even when it doesn't cross over into a disorder (i.e. a 'healthy' mind), our brains are filled with broken logic, screwy pattern recognition, poor temporal sense, and limited abstraction capabilities (a 'genius' typically has exceptionally good abstraction capabilities; an average mind does not, however). The combination of self-serving and various inherent mental instabilities can cause people to act 'evil' without ever intending to do so. Not that that's any excuse, mind you, and people certainly can be intentionally evil.

If you look at our evolution (if you believe in that) we formed small groups that worked together for mutual gain... we evolved into this, integrating our instincts with our social evolution. We became considerate of others well being because this indirectly improves our own lives which should benefit our species, we are even given the incentive (that warm fuzzy feeling when you do something good for another person).

However we are violent and selfish by nature (selflessness, in it's purest form, does not exist), this too is for our self preservation as a species. We are aggressive and blood thirsty because we need to hunt (animals provide the largest amount of our nutrition in less time) and it's also a feature of leadership (aggression doesn't always have to be associated with violence). Our greedy, violent nature is inherent in our species

For the most part people are caring to others, for the benefit of the species... we are also violent (for better or worse). What makes people evil is when they revel in the suffering of others, as we all know we are all guilty of that at some point.

So are we inherently evil... no. Does that mean we're good in nature... no. We are in a grey area and it's completely dependant on our upbringing to shape our outlook on life. Other factors such as various mental disorders or chemical imbalances, can make people do... unpleasant things, but like everyone else it's up to the nurturing of the individual to truly shape the person.

We help each other solely out of fear of being unable to survive on our own.

Any actions taken out of fear is unrelated to what we want to do,it is only related to what we want to avoid.

In the context of this thread, what is discussed is if good actions are done out of feeling forced into them by others and if it was just of ourselves,we would do inherently evil acts for the fun of it.
